Getting Started 5 Section 1: Getting Star ted This section explains how to start using your phone b y configuring yo ur hardware and setting up your voice mail. Understanding this User Manual The sections of this manu al generally follow the features of your phone.
6 Installing the Batter y Remo v ing th e Batter y C o ver 1. Remove the battery cover by placing your thumbnail in the slot at the bot tom of the phone (1). If you have fr agile nails, use a pointe d object. 2. Lift the co ver up and off th e phone (2).
Getting Started 7 Installing the Batter y 1. Align the gold c ontacts of the batter y with the co ntacts in the batt ery compartment in the phone (1). 2. Press the battery down until it clic ks into plac e (2). Make sure th at the battery is properly inst alled before sw itching on the phone.
8 3. Replace th e battery cover onto the back of the phone in the direction shown by the arrow (1). 4. Press down along the botto m of the phone until you hear a light click (2). 5. Press down firmly along the edges to ensure that the cover is flush with the phone (3).
Getting Started 9 Charging a Batter y Y our phone is powered by a rechargeable Li-ion batter y . The T r avel Adapt er that is used to charg e the battery , is incl uded with your phone. Use only Samsu ng- approved batteries and chargers. Y ou can use the phone while the battery is charging, although doing so requires additional charging t ime.
10 Important!: Verify that the handset battery is installed prior to connection. If the batter y is not properly installed and the wall charger is connected, the handset may power off and on continuously , preventing proper opera tion.
Getting Started 11 Switching the Pho ne On or Off 1. T o turn the ph one on, press and ho ld until the pho ne switches on. The phone launches the activation splash screen and searches for the network. Once the network has been fo und, you can make or receive calls.
12 Locking and Unlocking the Sc reen 1. T o lock the phone screen, press and hold . 2. T o unlock the phone screen, press th e Unlock soft key and then press the OK soft key . Note: The Auto Key Lock fea ture automatically locks th e screen when the screen ti mes out.

USB Pow er/Accessory connector: Allows you to connect a power cable or optional accessori es such as a USB/d ata cable. 2. Memory card port : Allows you to install a microSD or mi croSDHC card.
18 Back View The following illustration shows the back view of the phon e with the camera lens. 1. Camera Lens : Used to take pictur es and shoot videos. 2. External Speaker : Allows you to hear music. Display Layout Y our display scre en provides inf ormatio n about the phone’ s status and options.
Understanding Y our Phone 19 Icons The following list iden tifies th e symbols on your phone display: Shows the received signal strength. The greater the number of bars, the stronger th e signal. Shows the le vel of your batter y . The mo re bars you see, the more power remains.
20 Displays in the View T ab when you receive a new text or picture message. Displays in the View T ab when you receive a new voi ce mail. Displays when you set an alarm to ring at a specified time.
Understanding Y our Phone 21 Backlight A backlight illumina tes the internal display and the keypad. When you press any key , the backlight com es on. It goes off when no keys are pressed within a given period of time, depending on the setting in the Backlight T ime menu.
22 Menu Naviga tion This section explains the menu navigation for your phone. Menus and su b-menus can be accessed by scroll ing using the Navigation key or by using the shortcut keys. Access ing a Menu 1. In Idle mode, press the Menu soft key and scroll using the Naviga tion keys to reach a main menu item.

Call Functions 29 Recent Calls The phone stores the numbers of the calls you’ve dialed, received, o r missed in the Recent Calls menu. 1. From the Idle Screen, press . 2. Press the Left or Right Navigation key to disp lay All calls , Missed calls , Calls Made , or Calls Received .

Entering T e xt 33 Section 4: Entering T ext This section outlines how to select the desired text entry mode when entering characters using the QWERTY keyboard-style keypad. This section also descri bes how to use the T9 predictive text entry system to reduce the number of key strokes needed t o enter text.

36 Using T9 Predictiv e T ext The T9 Predi ctive T ext input method is ba sed on a built-in dict ionary . A series of keystrokes is interpreted by the phone using this dictionary to determine the l ikely word. 1. Press Options ➔ Te x t M o d e ➔ T9 Predictive T ext .
Entering T e xt 37 Add a New W ord into the T9 Diction ar y 1. After pressing the keys corresponding to the word you want to add, you can search for the word by using the touchpad (up/down). 2. When the last altern ative word displays, Spell displays.

50 Adding Pa uses to Contact Nu mbers When you call automa ted systems, you are often required to en ter a password or account number . Instead of manually entering the numbe rs each time, you can store the numbers in your Contacts along with special characters called pauses.

Note: If the entry’s associated Group image has a SIM location icon on it, then the entry exists on the SIM card.
