Chapter 1 I NTRODUCTION Congratulations on the purchase of UCommand UC - 515, the easy to use and configure digital remote control. UCommand lets you manage al l your infrared - controlled devices, eliminating the need to search for your various remotes.

Chapter 2 G ETTING S TARTED This chapter will guide you through the steps for inserting the batte r ies and using the UCommand’s many features. Power Supply UCommand UC - 515 operates on four AAA batteries. Batteries are required before you can operate your UCo mmand.
Chapter 2 - Getting Started 6 NOTE: Average alkaline battery life is approximately 4 - 6 months. If you do not use the remote for extended periods of tim e, please remove the batteries and store them in a cool dry place. Always dispose of used batteries in an environmentally friendly way.
UCommand User’s Guide The LCD 7 • Be sure to replace the batteries if they have been used for longer than two years: there might be a danger of lea k age. • Your device configuration data is stored in on - board flash memory and will be automatically saved when batteries are being replaced.

Chapter 3 - Operating UCommand UC - 515 12 Using the Learning Function When using the learning function , point your device’s remote control at UCommand’s learning eye . You do not have to power on the device. The ideal distance is about 1 to 2 inches.

Follow these i n structions: Press the Learn button for three seconds. 1 1 You will hear a beep, and then you will see the setup mode enable screen to the right.
Chapter 3 - Operating UCommand UC - 515 14 The device screen appears again, with the LEARN icon above the Learn bu t ton. The Power button icon is blinking , awaiting a si g nal from your device’s remote control. Learning ico n Blinking ico n Press the button of the device that you want to program.
UCommand User’s Guide Using the Learning Function 15 When you hear a beep and see the OK icon, release the button. The next button to be mapped will start blinking. C ontinue to press the buttons on your device remote control corresponding to the blinking buttons on UCommand.

UCommand User’s Guide Using the Delete Function 17 You will hear a beep, and th en you will see the setup mode enable screen to the right. Note: This screen prevents you from accidentally modifying your UCommand. Press each number button until it disappears.
Chapter 3 - Operating UCommand UC - 515 18 Press the button whose data you want to delete. You will hear a beep and see the OK icon. The button’s data has been deleted. Note: Pressing the button only deletes the mapped data; it doesn’t remove the button.

Chapter 3 - Operating UCommand UC - 515 20 Changing the LCD Layout The device Edit mode enables you to delete buttons or change the icons on buttons in the device menus. For a drawing that shows all available icons, see Appendix A . Follow these i n structions: Press the button of the device that you want to configure for three seconds.
UCommand User’s Guide Changing the LCD Layout 21 Tap the screen once. The display will stop flashing. Press the button whose appearance you want to change. Keep pressing the button to scroll through the option s. You can delete the button, or choose one of the available icon layouts.

Chapt er 3 - Operating UCommand UC - 515 24 First, press the button that you want to become the macro button. You can choose a button from any device screen. Then record the macro by pressing the desired command buttons. For details, refer to the n ext section: Macro example .
UCommand User’s Guide Macro Function 25 Macro Example The following example will help you to better understand recording a macro. This macro would be used to turn on your TV, switch to VCR input, and start playing a tape: Press the macro button for three seconds to enter macro setup mode .
Chapter 3 - Operating UCommand UC - 515 26 Press the TV bu t ton. Press the Power bu t ton. This will power the TV on. 1 Press TV/Video. This command will switch the TV mode to Video - input mode so that you can watc h the VCR.
UCommand User’s Guide Macro Function 27 You may need to set a time delay between turning your TV on and switching it to Video - input mode. Push the macro bu t ton to scroll through the three options: A. two se c onds; B. five seconds; and C. ten seconds.
Chapter 3 - Operating UCommand UC - 515 28 Press Power. This powers your VCR on. 1 Press Play. This command will start playing the tape in your VCR . Press Learn again to complete the current macro setup. You can then continue to set up another macro fun c tion, or press Learn twice to exit the macro setup.

Chapter 3 - Operating UCommand UC - 515 30 Press each number button u ntil it disappears. You will see the screen to the right. From here, you can set the duration of time that the LCD backlight stays on after you touch the LCD panel. 1 1 Press 1 for a 10 - second delay.
UCommand User’s Guide Adjusting the LCD Backlight 31 UCommand detects the ambient lighting and will turn the backlight on according to the setting in this screen. Press the Up arrow key to increase the sensitivity of the backlight to the ambient lighting.
Chapter 3 - Operating UCommand UC - 515 32 When you have finished making your adjustment, press any of the Device buttons to exit. Turning Off the Beep Signa l This function toggles the beep signal off and on. To turn off the beep signal, press the active device button.

Any configurations you have made will be lost. The learned codes are not deleted; to delete those, refer to Using the Delete Function on page 16.
