10 Ignition / Light Switc h To prevent acc idental startin g and/or battery d ischarge , remove the ke y from the ig nition s witch when th e tractor is not in use. The combinatio n ligh ts an d ignit ion sw itch ha s four positions . See Figure 8 for a descripti on of eac h positio n.
11 The thrott le lever is loc ated to the left of the stee ring wheel i n the throttl e/ ch oke leve r pod. This le ver contr ols the speed of the engine. Push the lever forward to increase th e engine sp eed. W hen s et in a g ive n pos ition , the throt tle will ma intain a un iform engine speed.
12 SECTION 7: OPERATION Safety Interlock Switches This trac tor is eq uipped wit h a safet y interlock system for the protectio n of the opera tor. If the inte rlock sys tem sh ould e ver m alf uncti on, d o no t operate the tractor. C ontact yo ur authorize d Cub Cadet Dealer.
13 • Place the PTO switc h in the “ OFF ” position. Move the throttle c ontrol lever to the “ MID ” posi tion. Then turn the igni tion key to th e “ OFF ” position. • Remove the k ey from the ignition switch . Dri ving The T ract or WARNING: Avoid sudden starts, excessiv e speed a nd sudden s tops.
14 Before opera ting the tractor on any slope, w alk the sl ope to look for possibl e hazards s uch as rocks . mounds, ruts, stum ps or other su rface irregulariti es which c ould cause th e tractor to b e upset. Back the tractor with attachmen t up the steepes t portion of ea ch slope yo u intend to w ork.
15 WARNING: To avoid possi- ble injury, do not allow anyon e in the area opposit e the dis- charge chute whil e mowing. Although the ar ea has been supposedly clea red of f oreign objects, small object s may be picked up and dischar ged by the mower.
16 Steering Whe el Tilt Adjustment WARNING: Do not adj ust the steerin g wheel whe n the tractor is m oving. Adjust ing the steerin g wheel while the tractor is m oving could cause the o perator to los e control of the tractor.
17 • With the b rake peda l diseng aged, inse rt an .030 ” feeler gau ge betw een the inner brak e pad and th e rotor. If the .030 ” ga uge does not fit , the brakes are ov erly tighten ed and should be loosene d. • Attempt to insert an .060 ” feeler gauge betw een the inner bra ke pad and the rotor.

19 Accessin g Engine Co mpart ment The engine compartm ent can b e access ed by lifting t he hood upw ard fro m the r ece ssed n otc hes of th e side panels an d tipping the hood fo rward. If greater acc ess is required, the tractor is equip ped wit h quick release side panels .
20 Batt ery Remo val The bat tery is l ocate d un der t he da sh panel in the frame pede sta l. To remove the battery : • Open the trac tor hood by lif ting it at the notche s in the sid e pane ls . • Remove the upp er baffle of the bulkhead from the front of the dash panel by li fting upwar d on the locking t ab on each s ide of the baffle.
21 • Lift the ho od to exp ose the b ack side of th e headlig ht assem bly. • Pull both loc king tabs awa y from light bulb and pull wire harn ess away. See Fi gure 17. • Remove the light bulb fro m the reflector by turnin g countercloc k- wise.
22 Check the oil l evel of t he transmis sion ca se bef ore e ach use to see that it is filled to the c orrect level. Befo re checkin g the tran smission oi l level, clean the area arou nd the Tra nsmis- sion Oil Fill / Dipstick to prevent de bris from enteri ng the trans mission cas e.

29 To remove th e spark plu gs, always use a spark plug wrenc h. Check the gap after ev ery 100 h ours of op eration. Replac e a defective plug with a new plug. S et the spar k plug g ap at .030 inch. Tig hten the pl ug to 10-15 ft-l bs. See your auth orized dea ler for the correc t replacemen t plug.
30 • Remove the foam pre cleaner by sliding i t up off th e paper ele ment. • Lift out the paper air filter elem ent. • Do not was h the paper ele ment or use pressu rized air, as thi s will damage the element. Rep lace a dirty, be nt or damaged el ement.
