Tire Pressure Befo re oper ating, check t ire pressure an d reduce pressu re in both tire s to bet ween 1 5 psi and 20 psi. NOTE: I f the tire pressu re is not equal i n both tires, th e machine may not travel in a st raight path and th e shave plate may wear unevenl y .
Adjustments Skid Shoes The sn ow thrower ski d shoes are a djusted upwa rd at the fac tor y for ship ping pur poses . Adjust them downwa rd, if desir ed, prio r to oper ating the snow throwe r .
Snow thrower contro ls and feature s are describ ed be low and illust rated in Fig. 4 - 1 . Shif t Le ver The shi f t lever is locate d in the right sid e of the handl e panel and is us ed to determ ine ground spe ed and dire ctio n of travel. Forward The re are six for ward (F ) spee ds.
Throttle Control The thr ottle contr ol is locate d on the rear of th e engine. It regul ates the spee d of the engi ne and will shu t of f the engine when m oved into the STOP positi on. Primer Pressing the p rimer fo rces fuel dire ctl y into the engi ne’ s c arburetor to ai d in cold- weather s tar ting.
Chute Direc tional Con tr ol The chute di rec tional contro l is located o n the lef t side o f the dash pan el. T o change the d irec tion in which s now is thrown, squ eeze the but ton on the j oy-sti ck and pivot the joy -stick to the right or to th e lef t.

Auger Sh af t At least on ce a season, rem ove the shear pins f rom the auge r shaf t. Sp ray lubrica nt inside the shaf t and a round the sp acers alon g the shaf t. Using a gre ase gun, app ly two s trokes of gre ase (Par t Number 737 - 0 168A) to the fit ting fo und at each end of shaf t.
Drive Control When th e drive control is re leased an d in the disen gaged “up” positi on, the cab le shoul d have v e ry li ttle s lack. It s hould NOT be tight.
W AR NIN G! T o prevent accide ntal sta rt-up, shu t of f the engi ne and remove the i gnition key be fore per for ming any t ype of en gine maintenan ce. Periodi c inspec tion an d adjustme nt of the engin e is essential if high l evel per form ance is to be maintai ned.
Check that th e spark plu g washer is in go od conditi on and threa d the spark p lug in by hand to prevent cross - threadi ng. Af ter the spark p lug is seated , tighten with a spa rk plug wrench to com press the wash er . NOTE: W hen inst alling a new sp ark plug, ti ghten ⁄ -turn af ter the spar k plug seat s to compress the was her .
Belt Replacement Auger Belt T o remove and re place your snow throwe r’s auger be lt, proce ed as foll ows: T o prevent spil lage, place a pi ece of plast ic wrap und er the gas cap an d tighten secu rely . Remove the p lastic b elt cover on the fro nt of the engin e by removin g the two s elf-ta pping scr ews.
Remove the b elt fro m around the au ger pull ey , and slip th e bel t bet ween the sup por t bracket a nd the auger p ulley . See Fig . 8-5. Reassem ble auge r belt by fo llowing ins truc tions in revers e orde r .
