3 SECTION 1: TRACTOR PREPARATION Connect the Battery Battery posts, terminals and related accessories contain lead and lead c ompounds. Wash hands after ha ndling . The tractor is shi pped with a seale d battery, with the positive battery cabl e factory connected.

5 • Never leave a running ma chine unattended. Always turn off b lade(s), place transmission in neutra l, set park brake, stop engine and remove key before dismounting.
6 • Avoid starting or stopping on a slope. If tires lose traction, dise n- gage the bl ade(s) and procee d slowly straight down the slope. • Follow the manufa cturers recom- mendations for wheel weights or counterweights to improve stability. • Use extra care with grass catchers or other attachments.
7 • To reduce fire hazard, keep the machine free of grass, leaves or other debris buil d-up. Clean up oil or fuel spillage. Allow machine to cool at least 5 minutes before storing. • Before cleaning, repairing or inspecting, make certa in the blade and all moving parts have stopped.

14 D . Parking Brake Le ver Figure 6 The parking brake lever is lo cated to the right of the steering w heel in the dash panel. With the brake pedal depressed fully, pu sh the parking brake lever do wnward and rel ease the brake pedal to lock the parking brake.
15 M. Fuel Fill Cap The fuel fill cap is located on th e fender to the left of the seat. N. Cup Holder The cup holder is loca ted on th e fender to the left of the seat. O . Hydrau lic Lift Leve r The hydraulic lift lever is located on the fender to th e left of the seat.

18 Driving On Slopes Refer to the SLOPE GAUGE on page 10 to help determine slopes where you may not operate safely. WARNING: Do not mow on inclin es with a slope i n excess of 15 degree s (a rise of approximately 2-1/2 feet every 10 fee t). The tractor could overturn and caus e serious injury.
19 Using the REVERSE CA UTION MODE k ey position The REVERSE CAUTION MO DE position of the key switch module allows the machine to be operated in reverse with the blades (PTO) engaged. IMPORTANT: Mowing in reverse is not recommended . Use extreme caution while operating the tractor in the “Reverse Caution Mode”.
20 Enga ging Differential Loc k Fully depress the diff. lock peda l to lock the transmission differential and provide constant pow er to both rear wheels when incre ased traction is needed. Release the diff. lock pedal when extra tractio n is not need ed.
21 SECTION 9: ADJUSTMENTS Seat Adjustment WARNING: Do not adjust the seat when the tractor is moving, a s this could cause the oper ator to lose co ntrol of the tractor. For the comfort of the ope rator, the tractor is equipped with an easy to operate adjustable seat.
22 Brake Inspection and Adjustment During no rmal operatio n, the tractor brake i s subject to minim al wear. How- ever, the brake should be perio dically tested, and adjusted if necessary. Checking the Brake. Place the tra ctor on a firm an d level surface.

25 Accessing Engine Compar tment The engine compartmen t can be accessed by raising the h ood as follows: • Lift the hood straight upward at th e recessed notches of the side panels to disengage the internal hood latch. • Carefully pi vot the hood fo rward to open.

27 Chargi ng the Batt er y Test and, if necessary, recharge the battery after the tractor has been stored for a period o f time. • A voltmeter or loa d tester should read 12.6 volts (DC) or higher across the battery terminals. • Charge the ba ttery with a 12-volt battery charger at a MAXIMUM rate of 10 amps.

30 Fuse Fuses are instal led to protect the trac- tor’s electrical system from damage caused by excessive amperage. Always use the same capacity fuse for replacement. Refe r to the Specifica- tions Chart. If the electrical system does not function , check the fuses.

33 Cleaning The Engine This tractor has an air-cooled engi ne. Air must be able to circulate free ly around the engine through the flywheel screen, through the cooling shrouds and over the fins of the cylinder head an d cylinder block.
34 Refer to Figure 27 for information regarding the prope r type of oil to add to the crankcase. • Place the tracto r on a level surfa ce and engage the parking brake. Stop the tractor en gine and remove the ignition key. • Clean the area around th e oil filler cap to prevent debris from entering the crankcase.
35 • Attach the flexible tubing to the drain valve. Place an ap propriate container bel ow the open end of the tubing to collect the old oil . • To open the drain valve, push it slightly inward and turn it counterclockwise until it stops, the n pull it outward.
36 WARNING: Ope rating the engine with loose or dam- aged air clean er components will allow unfilt ered air into the carburetor , causin g ex- tensive wear and eventual failure of the engine. Servicing The Precleaner Wash and re-oil the fo am precleaner more often under ex tremely dusty or dirty conditi ons.
