INTRODUCTION 1 1 INTRODUCTION 1.1 POWERSCAN® D8530 FAMILY DESCRIPTION The PowerScan® D8530 Fa mily Hand-Held Read er packs a lot of performance into an attractive, rugged, hand-hel d device. It operates in c ommercial and industrial environments as well as the front office.
POWERSCAN® D8530 2 1.3 CONFIGURATION MET HODS 1.3.1 Reading Configuration Codes This manual can be used for complete setup and configuration. If you wish to change the default settings, you c an configure the PowerScan® D8530 r eader by readi ng the programming code s ymbols in this manu al.

POWERSCAN® D8530 4 Follow the given procedure for correct cable i nsertion: c Slip the cover over the cable. d Push the plastic boot into the rubb er gaske t. Take care that the tab on the plasti c boot is aligned with the notch in the rubb er gasket.
USING POWERSCAN® D8530 5 2 USING POWERSCAN® D8530 2.1 AIMING SYSTEM The PowerScan® D8530 r eader uses an int elligent aiming system similar to those on cameras.
POWERSCAN® D8530 6 The field of view indicated b y the aiming system will be smaller when the PowerScan® D8530 is closer to the code and larger when it is farther from the code. Symbologies with small er bars or eleme nts (mil size) should be r ead closer to the unit.
USING POWERSCAN® D8530 7 You can use the aiming s ystem to position the reader fro m the object (ensure th e reader is about centered ov er the target). Adjust t he d istance at which you are holding the reader (see Figure 2). If the RS-232 interface h as been selected, the image will be transferred to the hos t PC via XMODEM_1K protocol.
POWERSCAN® D8530 8 2.3.2 Advanced Configuration Parameters By default, for all Image Presets, the window has its origin coordinates equal to zero, its width equal to 1280 pixe ls and its height to 1024 pixels. Brightness Adjustment is availabl e in the range from –10 0% up to 100%, in steps of 1%.
USING POWERSCAN® D8530 9 undesired effect, the Autoscan P attern Code is plac ed in the Po werScan® D8530 reading area which prevents decoding. Us ing this co de as the background, code reading takes place normally b y presenting desired codes t o be read over the Pattern Code.
POWERSCAN® D8530 10 2.6 DEFINING DATA FORMATTING The string of a decoded code to be sent to the host may be formatted as follo ws: • defining simple data formatting (see page 42); • defining adv anced data formatting giving complete flexibilit y in changi ng the format of data (see par.
USING POWERSCAN® D8530 11 2.6.1 Concatenation It is possible to concate nate up to 4 different cod es, set their length an d enable the intercode delay bet ween them (the intercode de lay is set in the specific interfac e parameters, see page 27, 29 and 34).
POWERSCAN® D8530 12 3 INITIAL SETUP This procedure allows setting up the reader to operate with the default settings. Whenever you nee d to change the default values refer to par. 4.2. 3.1 RS-232 INTERFACE SELECTION The PowerScan® D8530 rea der requires the RS-232 i nterface cable and the AC/DC power adapter to be connected.
