The F r ont Panel.
1. F ootswitches - These 2 Footswitches are used to select pr esets, access the T uner , or bypass the RP80. The Up Footswitch incr ements, and the Down Footswitch decr ements through the pr esets. Pressing both Foots witches simultaneously bypasses the selected preset.
6. Displa y - The Displa y pro vides information for differ ent functions depending on the selected mode. In Play mode, the display shows the selected pr eset number . In Edit mode, the displa y shows the value of the parameter being adjusted. When the T uner is enabled, the displa y shows the note pla yed.
Rear P anel 1. Input - Connect your instrument to this jack. 2. 1/4 ” Outputs - Connect these outputs to your amplifier or dir ect to a mixing console that accepts 1/4 ” unbalanced connections.
Making Connections There ar e several differ ent connection options available when using the RP80. The following diagrams show the connections for some of these options. Befor e connecting the RP80, mak e sure that the pow er to your amplifier is turned off, and the pow er to the RP80 is disconnected.
Stereo Operation For ster eo operation connect your guitar to the Input of the RP80. Connect from the RP80 ’ s Left/Mono Output to the input of one amplifier or to a channel input of a mixing console. Connect from the RP80 ’ s Right Output to a second amplifier , or to a second channel of a mixing console.
Applying P o w er There ar e two options for pow ering the RP80: batter y power , and the included PS200R DC pow er supply . Before a pplying power to an ything, set your amp(s) to a clean tone and set the tone controls to a flat EQ r esponse (on most amps, this would be 0 or 5 on the tone contr ols).
Connecting a cable to the Input applies pow er to the RP80. Disconnecting your instrument from the Input of the RP80 disconnects the battery power . T urn your amplifier(s) on and adjust the volume(s) to a normal pla ying lev el. T o prolong the battery life, disconnect your instrument from the RP80 ’ s Input when not in use .
T uner The T uner in the RP80 lets you quickly tune or check the tuning of y our guitar . Enter the T uner by pressing and holding both F ootswitches simultaneously . The tu briefly displays indicating that you ar e in T uner mode. T o begin tuning, play a note on y our guitar (the neck pickup usually w orks best).

The Effect LEDs When editing a preset, the Effect LEDs are used to indicate which effect is selected f or editing. The Edit buttons mov e you thr ough the Effect modules. The LEDs light indicating which effect group is selected. Each effect has multiple settings to select fr om.
Storing/Cop ying a Preset Once the preset has been modified, you ma y store your settings to one of the 40 User Pr eset locations (Presets 1-40). The follo wing steps outline how to store changes to a pr eset or copy a preset to a diff erent location: 1.
Effect Definitions The RP80 can be thought of as sev eral differ ent “ virtual ” amplifiers, and individual hi-tech effects. Each effect within the RP80 can be pr ogrammed to suit your personal application. Understanding how these effects alter the sound helps y ou achieve the sound y ou are looking for .
Pickup/W ah T ype - The V alue buttons select the Pick Up or W ah type that is simulated. OF - T urns the Pickup Simulator / W ah module off. SH - Giv es a single coil pick up the warm tone of a humbucker . HS - Gives a humbuck er the unique sound of a single coil.
EQ Equalization is used to shape the tonal r esponse of your guitar signal. The EQ in the RP80 is similar to the tone knobs on an amplifier . V alues 1-4 cut the level of each band, 5 is flat (no cut or boost), and values 6-9 boost the lev el of each band.
Chorus ( C1-C9 ) A Chorus adds a short dela y to your signal. The dela yed signal is modulated in and out of tune and then mix ed back with the original signal to create a thick er sound, and stereo image. Use the V alue buttons to select one of the nine Chorus settings.
Vibrato ( b1-b9 ) A Vibrato effect modulates the pitch of the incoming signal at an ev en rate . Use the V alue buttons to select one of the nine Vibrato settings. Rotar y Speak er ( r1-r9 ) Rotar y Speaker is an em ulation of a device that included a spinning horn and woofer .
Detune ( d1-d9 ) A Detuner mak es a cop y of your incoming signal, takes the copied signal slightly out of tune from the original, and mixes the tw o signals together . The result is a doubling type of effect as if tw o guitars wer e playing the same part together .
Dela y The RP80 has 3 differ ent dela y types, Mono ( D ), Analog ( A ), and Ping Pong ( P ), each with 2 seconds of dela y time available. There are tw o different parameters used to pr ogram the dela y , Dela y V ariation and Time.
Other Functions Expression P edal The Expression P edal on the RP80 can be assigned to control the V olume , W ah, Whamm y ™ , Ya Ya ™ , or one of several other parameters in r eal time with your foot. When a parameter has been assigned to the Expression P edal, a programmable minimum and maxim um value can also be assigned.

Drum Machine The RP80 includes sev eral sampled drum patterns that are useful for dev eloping a good sense of timing. Press the DRUMS button to enter Drums mode and start pla yback of the drum loop (except when in Store or Bypass mode). In Drums mode, the Edit buttons selects the drum Pattern, T empo, and Level of the drum loop .
