16 © 2002 Directed Electronics, Inc. Neutral Safety Switc h Interface Some v ehicles combine the column shift mechanism and the mechanical neutral safety switch into one mechanical part. In these vehicles, it is impossible to interface the remote start system before the neutral safety switch.

18 © 2002 Directed Electronics, Inc. V alet/Pr ogram Switc h, 2-Pin BLUE Plug The V alet/P r ogram button should be accessible from the driver ’ s seat. I t plugs into the BL UE port on the side of the unit. Consider how the button will be used befor e choosing a mounting location.
© 2002 Directed Electronics, Inc. 19 Mounting the Receiver/Antenna Receiv er/antenna position should be discussed with the vehicle o wner prior to installation, since the antenna may be visible to the vehicle ’ s operator . The best location for the receiver/antenna is center ed high on either the front or r ear windshield.

In the (+) position, the on-boar d r elay is enabled and the unit will output (+)12V on the WHITE wir e, H1/2. I n the (-) position, the on- board r elay is disabled.

D ue to the number of steps, they have been broken up into two menus. I t is possible to access and change any of the feature settings using the V alet/P r ogram switch.

26 © 2002 Directed Electronics, Inc. 2-3 RUN TIME 12/24/60 MINUTES: This feature controls ho w long the engine will run before it “ times out” and shuts down. P rogrammed to the default setting the engine will run for 12 minutes. If the 24- or 60-minute run time is desired, press the unlock button of the transmitter .

The r eceiver can store up to four different transmitter codes in memory . U se the follo wing learn routine to add trans- mitters to the system or to change button assignments if desired.

Within 5 seconds, pr ess and hold the V alet/program switch. 3. The LED will light constant when the tach signal is learned.
© 2002 Directed Electronics, Inc. 31 4. Release the V alet/program switch. 5. P r ess and release the V alet/program switch. The LED will now r eport the last system shutdown by flashing for one minute in the belo w grouped patterns; the LED will stop flashing when the ignition is turned on.
32 © 2002 Directed Electronics, Inc. Safety Chec k Before v ehicle reassembly , the remote system must be checked to ensure safe and tr ouble-free operation. The following test procedur e must be used to verify proper installation and operation of the system.

If so, does the vehicle hav e a V A T S P ass-Key system? ➤ Will it start with the brake pedal depressed? (M ake sure to disconnect the brake shutdo wn when performing this test.
➤ Make sur e the purple starter wire is connected on the starter side of the starter kill relay . ➤ Does the v ehicle have an immobilizer? S ome immobilizer systems will not allo w the vehicle to crank if active. ➤ Check connections. The two red heavy gauge input wires on the r elay satellite should have solid connections.
