1 Keypad Buttons & Lights PC5508 Z PC5516 Z LCD5500Z Keypad LCD5501Z Keypad PC5532Z (LED) Keypad Y our installer may have installed one of these LED keypads if you have 16 or fewer zones on your system. These keypads operate in the same way as the PC5532 keypad.

3 About This Guide This Power864 User’ s Guide is for anybody using a Power864 Security System. Read this guide thoroughly to learn how to use your security system. Ensure that all users of this system are equally instructed in its use. Important information about fire and burglary alarms is in section 3 on page 12.
4 Section 1: Introduction Y our security system can pr ovide up to three k inds of monitoring: intrusion, fire, and emer- gency . We have designed your DSC Power864 security system to provide y ou with both flexibility and convenience. Y our install er has set up your system with your home or busi- ness in min d.
Introduction: Fi re Detection 5 Fire Detection This equipment is capab le of monitoring fire detection devices such as smoke detectors and providing a warning if a fire condition is detected. Good fire detect ion depen ds on having an adequate number of detectors placed in appropriate locations.
6 Section 2: Arming and Disarming Y our System This section describ es how to perform the basic function s of your system: arming and di s- arming. Read this section car efully . Getting Ready to Arm Y ou r System Before you arm your system, make sur e that th e system is Ready .
Arming and Disarmi ng Your System: Arming Your System 7 Arming Y our System There ar e two basic methods for arming your security system. • Away Arming : Use this method when everyone will be away from the pr emises. See below . • Stay Arming : Use this method when one or more people will stay on the premises.
8 Bell/Siren Sounds After Aw a y A r m i n g Audible Exit Fault In an attempt to reduce false alarms, the Audibl e Exit Fault is designed to notify you of an improper exit when arming the system in the Away mode.
Arming and Disarmi ng Your System: Quick Arm 9 Re-activa te bypassed zones T o fully arm the system when it has been armed in Stay mode: 1. Press at any keypad. The interior zones are now armed. NOTE: When you have re-activated the interior zones, you will not be able to enter areas protected by motion detectors, or open d oors and windows.
10 Automatic Arming Y our installer may have set up your system to arm at a pre-programmed time. If automatic arming has been programmed, when the system reaches the programmed auto-arm time, the keypad buzzers will soun d for one minute, and LCD5 500Z keypads will displ ay “System Arming in Progress”.
Arming and Disarmi ng Your System: Quick Exit 11 Quick Exit Y our installer will tell you if the Quick Exit feature has been enabled on your system. The Quick Exit feature will allow you to exit the pr emises while the system is armed, without having to disarm and then re-arm the system.
12 Section 3: Dealing With Alarms and Emergencies If you return to the premises and the bell or siren is on - DO NOT ENTER. Contact local authorities from a nearby safe location. Read this section carefully so that you will know what to do if your s ystem goes into alarm.
13 Intrusion (Burglary) Alarms A steady bell or siren indicates an intrusion alarm. T o silence the alarm: 1. Enter your [access c ode]. 2. If the alarm was unintentional, call your central station or local authorities immediately to avoid an unnecessary response.
14 Calling for Help All keypads have thr ee pairs of emergency keys. Using these keys you can send an immedi- ate Fir e, Auxiliary or Panic message to your central station. Press both keys for two seconds to send a Fire message, and to trigger a fire alarm on the system.
15 Section 4: Using Advanced Functions This section describes how to perform more specialized functions: bypassing zones, tur ning the door chime on or off, viewing the trouble display and event buf fer , and testing your system. NOTE: Y our syst em may have cross zoning enabled.
16 Recalling Bypassed Zones T o recall the last set of bypassed zones: 1. Press , then your [access code] (if necessary). 2. Press . 3. T o exit bypassing mode and return to the Ready state, pr ess . Bypass Groups A Bypass Group is a selection of zones programmed into the system.

18 Zone Ligh t T ype Of T roubl e 7 Low zone battery . This trouble is generated when a wir eless device has a low battery . This trouble only applies if you have wireless devices installed on your system. Pr ess [7] one, two, or three times to view which devices are exper iencing battery failure.
Using Advanc ed Functions: Allowing Comp uter Access to Your System 19 LCD5500Z keypads will di splay the following message when each zone (detector) is activated: “Secur e System Before Arming < >”, or “Secur e System or Enter Code”. Use the keys to view which zones are open.
20 Section 5: Customizing Y our System This section describes ho w to customize your system to your needs. Refer to this section for detailed instructions on: programm ing access codes, s etting the time and date, and ad just- ing the keypad sounders and lights.
21 Setting the Time and Date Y ou should make sure that your system has the correct time a nd date. This is important for the auto-arm featur e to function corr ectly , and for accurate reporting of events.
22 Section 6: Fire Safety Read this section carefully for important information about fire safety . Household Fire Safety Audit Most fires occur in the home. T o minimize this danger , we recommend that a household fire safety audit be conducted and a fire escape plan be deve loped .
23 Section 7: Glossary Access code A 4- or 6-digit code th at allows access to arming, disarming and other system functions. Alar m When a zone is violated (e.g., a smoke detector detects smoke, a motion detector senses movement, a door with a contact is opened), it will trigger an alarm.
24 Exit delay A timer programmed by your installer . It starts when you arm your system, to allow you a period of time in which to leave the premises. At the end of the exit delay , the system will be armed.
