1-1 INTRODUCTION SECTION 1 INTR ODUCTION 1.1 SCOPE OF MANU A L This manual describes the 3000 Series Switch modules and the alignment instructions for these modules. This manual is not intended to explain the entire Multi-Net ® system, just the 3000-Series Switch segment.
INTRODUCTIO N 1-2 1.2.10 ST A T US REP EA TER CHANNEL The Status Repeater Channel is one repeater in a site that is designated to transmit update messages occurring on all other repeat ers at the site. This repeater is available for voice traf fic, but is not normally assigned as the Home repeater for any mobiles.
2-1 3000 SERIES SWITCH SECTION 2 3000 SERIES SWITCH 2.1 INTRODUCTION A Multi-Net radio system is a combination of several key elements that together make up a commu- nication sy stem. By using the basic elements of a Multi-Net system as building blocks, a Multi-Net system can be designed to meet the communica tion needs of almost any type of user .
3000 SERIES SWITCH 2-2 2.2 ELEMENTS OF THE SWITCH The Switch is a rack of modules. The rack may contain the following mo dules: (T able 2-1). 2.3 SWITCH MODULES (ELEMENTS) The Switch is constructed of different modules that interface from the Switch to external device s.

14-1 TELEPHONE INTERF A CE MODULE (TIM) SECTION 14 TELEPHONE INTERF A CE MODULE (TIM) 14.1 DESCRIPTION The T elephone Interface Module (TIM) connects the Switch to the telephone lines and handles tele- phone line protocols. The TIM may be referred to as a T runk Interface Module.
TELEPHONE INTERFACE MODULE (TIM) 14-2 14.1.1 SUPER VISION The TIM can be seized from either landside or internal. Landside seizure occurs by Direct Inward Dial (DID) or T wo-W ay S t art (2WY). Internal seizure comes from the Intra-T erminal Data Bus (IDB) as a request for outgoing service on the telephone line (see Figure 14-15).
TELEPHONE INTERFACE MODULE (TIM) 14-3 14.1.5 TELEPHONE LINE STYLES There are several different styles of telephone lines the TIM controls. The following styles of lines and their basic connection are supported.
TELEPHONE INTERFACE MODULE (TIM) 14-4 14.1.8 TRANSMIT A UDIO The transmit audio from th e PCM channel stream is processed to analog an d sent to the telephone line (see Figure 14-14).
TELEPHONE INTERFACE MODULE (TIM) 14-5 Figure 14-2 E&M INTERF A CE CONNECTIONS 14.2.3 8-POSITION DIP SWITCH S201 The 8-position DIP switch S201 determines the interface type. There are five types of E&M interface signaling, T ype I th rough T ype V .
TELEPHONE INTERFACE MODULE (TIM) 14-6 14.2.4 TYPE I AND V A straight interconnect between the trunk circuit and signaling circuit. T wo conductors are signaling and four are balanced audio (see Figure 14-4 ). Figure 14-4 TYPE I AND V 14.2.5 TYPE II AND III A straight interconnect between the trunk circuit and signaling circuit.

TELEPHONE INTERFACE MODULE (TIM) 14-8 14.4 E&M LEAD CIRCUIT THEOR Y OF OPERA TION 14.4.1 E&M INTERF A CE This card was designed to mate with any of the five available E&M signaling formats. E&M signaling usually requires a -48V supply with positive ground and must have some type of current limiting available.
