10 Setting Up the Projector Positioning th e Projector Before con necting the pr ojector, y ou need to decide w here to plac e it. The loca tion you choose d epends on the si ze of t he room a nd what you are projecti ng. ■ Place the pr ojector o n a sturdy, le vel sur face, between 3.

12 Setting Up the Projector Connecting to a Laptop Computer You can connect the Pow erLite proje ctor to any compute r that has a standa rd vid eo outpu t (mon itor ) port, in cludi ng PC notebo ok and laptop com pute rs, M acin tosh P owe rBook s, and hand- hel d dev ices.

Setting Up the Projector 15 Connecting to Video Sources You ca n con nect a DVD pla yer, V CR, camc ord er, la ser di sc pla yer, digital came ra, or a ny other c ompa tible vi deo s ource to your projecto r. The projector supports NT SC, PAL, and SECAM, and automatically detects the vide o format .
16 Setting Up the Projector 3. Connect the AV cable to the left and right Audio jacks on the projector (i nsert the whi te plug into the L port and the r ed plug into the R po rt). 4. Connect the plugs at the other e nd of the cable to the audi o outpu t jack s on your v ideo sour ce.
2 Using the Projector 17 Using the Projector O nce you ’ ve set up the pr ojector, yo u ’ re ready to turn it on, adjust the image, and give your pr esentation. Although you ca n operate the p roject or without it , the remo te control lets you use additional fe atures.
18 Using the Projector Turning On Your Equipment Make sure your p rojector and other equipment ar e set up and connected correc tly, as desc ribed in Chapter 1 or Appendix A. Then turn on your projector, as described below, fol lowed by any equipment you ’ ve connecte d to it.
Using the Projector 19 4. Squeeze the lens cap tabs and remo ve the lens cap. 5. Press the red Power button on top of the proj ector. The power ligh t flashes gre en as the projec tor warm s up, and the projecti on lamp c omes o n in abou t 30 seco nds.

Using the Projector 23 Focusing and Zooming You r Image Rotate the focus ri ng to sharpen the image. Use the tab to rotate the lens ring and red uce or enlarge the i mage. You can also change the image size by moving the projector closer to or farther aw ay from the screen .

3 Using the Remote Control 27 Using the Remote Control T he remote co ntrol lets you access your projector ’ s feat ures from anywhere in the room — up to 30 feet away. You can use it to turn the projector on and off, zoom in on a portion of your image, and highlight your p resentation.

Using the Remote Control 31 Turning Off the Picture an d Sound You can use the A/V Mute button on the remo te control to turn off the image and sound and dar ken your screen. This is useful if yo u want to temporar ily re-dire ct your audience ’ s attentio n without the dist ractio n of a brigh t scr een.
32 Using the Remote Control Resizing the Image Som e co mp ute r im ag es n ee d t o be resi ze d to dis pl ay i n th e p roj ec tor ’ s native format — 1024 × 768 pixels. If only part of your computer image is displayed, you can corr ect it with the Resize button.

Th e logo se tting di spla ys an image that you have transfe rred to the proj ector. See page 44 for instruc tions on transfe rring an image to use as the no-signal message.

50 Fine-tuning the Projector Restoring the Default Sett ings The Reset All op tion lets you retur n all the project or settings to thei r defau lt valu es. Select Reset Al l and press the Enter button on the remote control to display the confir mation sc reen.
5 Maintaining and Transporting the Projector 51 Maintaining and Transporting the Projector Y our projector needs little maintenance. All you need to do on a regular basis is keep the lens clean. Any di rt or smears on the lens may show up on your projec ted im age.
52 Maintaining and Transporting the Pr ojector Cleaning the Lens Clean the le ns whenever you notice dirt o r dust on the surface. ■ Use a canist er of comp ressed air to remove dust. ■ To remove dirt or smears on the lens, use lens-cleaning paper.
Maintaining and Transporting the Projector 53 Cleaning and Re placing the A ir Filter Clean the ai r filter on to p of the proj ector after eve ry 100 hours of use. If it is not cl eaned periodically, it can b ecome clogged with dust, preventing proper ventilation.
54 Maintaining and Transporting the Pr ojector 4. If you need to repl ace the filter, us e a small screw driver to pry it off. 5. To install the new fi lter, fi rst ins ert the t ab, then p ress down until it clic ks in pl ace. Replacing the Lamp The projecti on lamp typically lasts fo r about 1000 hours of use.
