13 Getting Ready 2 Plug the batt ery charger into a power outlet. The charg ing in dicator li ghts oran ge and charging begins. When charg ing is com pleted, th e indicato r turn s off.
14 Load ing the B attery 1 Open the battery cover. CHECK Check that the camera is turned off before opening the battery cover. CAUTIO N • Do not open the battery cover while the camera is on. This could damage the Memory Card or ruin the image files on the Memory Card.
15 Getting Ready 3 Close the battery cover. To rem ove th e batt ery Open the battery cover, and unlock the battery release catch with your finger. CAUTIO N Make sure the camera is turned off before removing the battery.

17 Getting Ready CAUTIO N Be sure to unlock the protection of the SD Memory Card before inserting it. If it is locked, recording/deleting images, as well as formatting are not available. To unlock the protection, slide the switch back, and the SD Memory Card will work normally.
18 Load ing the Memory Card CAUTIO N • When storing Memory Cards, make sure that they are kept out of the reach of children. A Memory Card could be swallowed and ca use suffocation. If a child swallows a Memory Card, seek medical attention or call emergency number right away.

20 Tur ning On and O ff Setting the language, date , and time When usin g the camera for the firs t time after purchasing, the lan guage, da te, and time a re clear ed. Set the langua ge, date, and tim e. 1 [ ] screen appears when turning the camera on.

27 Using the Camera CAUTIO N When pressing the shutter button halfway, a lens operation sound may be heard. 4 Press the shutter button fully. CAUTIO N When taking a picture using the flash, the image may disappear and go dark briefly due to flash charging.
28 Taking Pictures ( AUTO Mode) Z Indicato r lamp display The indicator lamp ligh ts or blinks when pre ssing the shutter bu tton, e tc. The ind icator lamp shows th e camera status. MEMO Detailed warning messages appear on the LCD monitor ( ➝ p.107-110).
29 Using the Camera Taking pictures with the focus and exposure locked In th e abov e compo siti on, th e subje cts ( two peop le in this case) are not in th e AF fra me. Press ing the sh utter b utton halfway at this point will result in the subje cts being out of focus.
30 Taking Pictures ( AUTO Mode) 3 Continue t o hold the shut ter butt on down halfway. Move the camera back to the original image and press the shutter b utton full y. MEMO • AF/AE lock can be applied repeatedly before the shutter is released. • Use AF/AE lock in all Shooting modes to guarantee excellent results.
31 Using the Camera Adjusting the shot composition Select the LCD monitor display. Press DISP/BACK to cha nge the LCD monitor display. Position the m ain subject at the interse ction of two lines in this fr ame o r align o ne of the hori zontal lines wit h the horizo n.

37 Using the Camera MEMO To erase another frame (file), repeat above steps. When erasing frames (files) is completed, press DISP/ BACK. CAU TION Pressing MENU/OK repeatedly erases consecutive frames (files). Take care not to erase a frame (file) by mistake.
38 Erasi ng the Ima ges/Mo vies MEMO MEMO • W hen using a Memory Card, the images in the Memory Card are erased. When not using a Memory Card, the images in the internal memory are erased. • S electing BACK returns to single-frame playback without erasing any frames (files).

CAUTIO N The LCD power save function is disabled during Playback mode and Movie mode.
