10 When attaching the strap to the camera, attach the metal strap clip to the camera before threading the strap through the clip. This description explains how to attach the strap using the clip attaching tool provided to make attaching the metal strap clip easier.
11 Getting Ready 6 5 lens cap holder Fastener Fastener Remove fasteners A and B from only one side of the shoulder strap. Then pass the shoulder strap through the lens cap holder and then back through fasteners A and B . 7 Thread the strap through the protective cover and metal strap clip.

If the media is oriented incorrectly, it will not go all the way into the slot. Do not apply excessive force when inserting an xD-Picture Card or Microdrive.
15 Getting Ready ◆ How to replace the xD-Picture Card ◆ Push the xD-Picture Card into the slot and then slowly remove your finger. Position the thumb of your right hand so that it is handy for using the zoom. ● ! The image will be blurred if the camera moves when taking the picture (camera shake).
25 Using the Camera Press the Shutter button down halfway. When a short double-beep is heard, the camera focuses on your subject. At that point, the AF frame on the screen becomes smaller and the camera sets the shutter speed and aperture (the indicator lamp (green) stops blinking and remains lit).

36 FOCUSING ( DIST ANCE ) STILL PHOTOGRAPHY FUNCTIONS The distance from the subject to the camera is referred to as the shooting distance. When the shooting distance is set correctly and the image appears sharp, the image is focused.
37 Advanced Features EXPOSURE ( SHUTTER SPEED AND APER TURE ) STILL PHOTOGRAPHY FUNCTIONS Closed Open When shooting a moving subject, you can either “freeze the motion” or “capture the sense of movement” by adjusting the shutter speed. Freezes the motion of the subject.

39 Advanced Features When shutter speed and aperture adjustments alone do not give the correct exposure. When the image is too bright Lower the S sensitivity setting. Use an ND filter (Sold separately). When the image is too dark Raise the S sensitivity setting.
40 B AUTO Set the Mode dial to “ B ”. This is the easiest mode to use and can be used for most types of shot. ? SCENE POSITION Set the Mode dial to “ ? ”. This mode provides options tailored to different types of scene. Choose from 4 types of scene ( m , , , .
41 Advanced Features N PROGRAMMED AUTO STILL PHOTOGRAPHY FUNCTIONS Set the Mode dial to “ N ”. This is an automatic mode that allows you to specify any of the settings other than the shutter speed and aperture.
42 M SHUTTER-PRIORITY AUTO STILL PHOTOGRAPHY FUNCTIONS Set the Mode dial to “ M ”. This is an automatic mode that allows you to set the shutter speed. Use this mode for shots where you want to freeze a moving subject (fast shutter speed) or convey the impression of movement (slow shutter speed).

47 Advanced Features d Forced flash Use this mode in backlit scenes, such as a subject against a window or in the shade of a tree, or to get the correct colors when taking a picture under bright lighting. In this mode, the flash fires in bright as well as dark conditions.

49 Advanced Features Use this button to take pictures of a moving subject. Using Continuous AF mode reduces the time required for focusing. Set the Focus mode selector switch to “C-AF”. 1 2 Frame the shot so that the subject fills the center of the image or the entire AF frame.

53 Advanced Features Use this function for shots to get the correct brightness (exposure), such as shots with extremely high contrast between the subject and the background. Set the Power switch to “ q ”. 1 Set the Mode dial to “ N ”, “ M ” or “ < ” mode.

59 Advanced Features Beep 1 Use this setting to set the white balance for the ambient natural or artificial lighting in images. Use this setting to achieve special effects also. 1 Select custom white balance “ O ” or “ P ”. 2 Press the “MENU/OK” button.

62 STILL PHOTOGRAPHY MENU STILL PHOTOGRAPHY MENU Use this setting to photograph the same image with different exposure settings. Bracketing shoots 3 continuous frames, one of which is correctly exposed while the remaining two are underexposed and overexposed respectively by a set amount.
63 Advanced Features Multiple exposure provides a way of overlaying images on top of each other to give a final image that cannot be got through normal photography. ● ! When the image is overexposed, use negative compensation in the Brightness (exposure compensation) setting to correct the exposure ( ➡ P.
64 STILL PHOTOGRAPHY MENU STILL PHOTOGRAPHY MENU Select “ON” in this setting when using an external flash unit. Synchronized shutter speeds up to 1/1000 sec. can be used. ● ! The image may appear dark when the shutter speed is set to speeds higher than 1/1000 sec.

90 5.2 INST ALLA TION ON A Windows PC Pre-installation checklist To run this software, you must have the hardware and software described below. Check your system before you begin the installation. ✽ 1 Models with a USB interface as a standard feature and one of the above operating systems preinstalled.
91 Software Installation 1 Install FinePixViewer as instructed in the Quick Start Guide. 2 After restarting the PC, install DirectX as directed by the on-screen instructions and restart your PC again. If the latest version of DirectX is already installed on your PC, this installation is not performed.
92 5.3 INST ALLA TION ON A Mac OS 9.0 TO 9.2 1 Turn on your Macintosh and start up Mac OS 9.0 to 9.2. ● ! Do not connect the camera to your Macintosh until the software installation is completed. 3 When inserting the enclosed CD-ROM into the CD-ROM driver, the “FinePix” window opens.

99 Viewing Images If the power cuts out during data transmission, the data will not be transmitted correctly. Always use the AC power adapter when connecting the camera to a computer.
