15 Reference Reference Map P age Cursor When the cursor reaches the edge of the map , the unit may pause as it loads new map data. Using the Cursor The cursor allows you to pan away fr om your present position and scr oll to other map areas ar ound the world (even outside of your current detail coverage).

If the cursor is on a map item, you will get a new window with details about the item when ENTER/MARK is pressed. Press ENTER/MARK again on the highlighted ‘Create W aypoint’ option.
17 Reference Map P age Options The GPSMAP 2006/2010’ s Map Page pr ovides access to functions and features r elating to the Map Page and the layout options. The available SOFT KEY options are Change Nmbrs, Hide Nmbrs/Show Nmbrs, Measure, Set Up Map, and Declutter On/Off.

19 Reference Map P age Options • Measure — allows you to measur e the bearing and distance between any two points on the map display . T o measure the BRG/DIS between two points: 1. Press the ‘Measure Distance’ SOFT KEY . An on-screen pointer will appear on the map display at your present position with ‘ENT REF’ below it.
20 Reference Map P age Options Orientation— North Up— fi xes the top of the map display to a north heading; T rack Up— fi xes the top of the map display to the current track heading; Course Up— fi xes the map so the direction of navigation is always “up” and turns the navigation leg line vertical on the screen.
21 Reference Map P age Options Other T ab— Accuracy Cir cle— On/Off: toggles the cir cle “On” and “Of f”. The circle r epresents the appr oximate accuracy of the unit based on EPE, DOP , and basemap quality . Y our position will be within the circle.
22 Reference Compass P age F Compass Page Whenever a Go T o, Follow T rack (T racBack) or Follow Route have been activated, the GPSMAP 2006/2010’ s Compass Page will guide you to your destination with digital r eadouts and a graphic compass display , which includes a bearing pointer .
23 Reference Numbers and Highway P ages Numbers P age The Numbers Page provides a quick r eference for the important data you want to display . The default page will display four large, user -selectable data fi elds showing a compass ribbon, speed, current position coordinates and a smaller version of the Highway Page.
24 Reference Highway P age options F The GPSMAP 2006/2010’ s Highway Page featur es SOFT KEY options that provide access to functions and features relating to the Highway Page and the layout options. Options allow you to defi ne the data fi elds to display several data options and select which waypoints and tracks are displayed on screen.
25 Reference Creating W aypoints Creating and Using W aypoints The GARMIN GPSMAP 2006/2010 stores up to 3000 alphanumeric waypoints with a user -defi n ed icon, comments and depth (depth will automatically be displayed if valid sonar data is being received.
26 Reference Creating/Editing W aypoints Creating W aypoints Graphically W aypoints may also be quickly created from the map display , which allows you to ‘point and shoot’ at any map position to create a new waypoint. T o mark a map item, select the desired map item with the cursor .
27 Reference Editing W aypoints From the W aypoint Edit page, you may change the name, symbol, comment, position coordinates, or depth for the selected waypoint. Once the changes have been made, highlight ‘Next’ and press ENTER/MARK to save them or press QUIT .
28 Reference W aypoint Options I T o access the Main Menu P age/W aypoint (P oints) submenus: 1. Press MENU , then highlight the ‘Points’ tab using the ARRO W KEYP AD , then highlight the desired submenu tab .
29 Reference Proximity W aypoints T o delete waypoints by symbol: 1. F rom the ‘User’ tab , press the ‘Delete By Symbol’ SOFT KEY . 2. Use the ARROW KEYP AD to highlight the symbol of the waypoint(s) to be deleted and press ENTER/MARK . 3. Press ENTER/MARK to confi rm.
30 Reference Proximity W aypoints T o turn proximity alarms on or off: 1. Use the ARROW KEYP AD to highlight the fi eld below “Proximity Alarm” and press ENTER/MARK .
31 Reference Going T o a Destination Going to a Destination Using the NA V key , the GPSMAP 2006/2010 provides three ways to navigate to a destination: Go T o Point, Follow Route and Follow T rack (T racBack). Once you are actively navigating, you will see a straight line that always runs from your curr ent location to the destination.
32 Reference T racBack Navigation ‘Go T o MAP Point’ allows you to navigate to a spot on the map which is not a waypoint or map item. Pr ess the ‘Save’ SOFT KEY to save an active track log. T o activate an existing waypoint or map item as a ‘Go T o’ from the map display: 1.
33 Reference T racBack Navigation 4. Next, the tr ack will begin saving and then display the ‘Saved T rack’ window when done . T he default name , distance and number of points (1000 max) will be displayed. T o change the name of the saved track, highlight the name fi eld and press ENTER/MARK , mak e your changes and press ENTER/MARK again.
34 Reference MOB: Man OverBoard MOB The GPSMAP 2006/2010’ s Man OverBoar d function (MOB) lets you simultaneously mark and set a course to a position for quick response to emer gency situations. T o activate the MOB function: 1. Press the MOB k ey .
35 Reference Creating Routes Routes The last way to navigate to a destination is to create a user -defi ned r oute. The GARMIN GPSMAP 2006/2010 system lets you create and store up to 50 r eversible r outes (numbered 1-50), with up to 50 waypoints each.
36 Reference Creating Routes T o create a route using text from the Route Review page: 1. Press the MENU k ey to display the Main Menu page . 2. Use the ARROW KEYP AD to highlight the ‘Route’ tab and press the ‘New Route’ SOFT KEY or you may also highlight the fi rst available blank route slot and press ENTER/MARK .
37 Reference Route List P age Route List Page The GPSMAP 2006/2010 Route List page displays all the routes curr ently stored in memory , along with a descriptive name for each route. Once a r oute has been cr eated, it can be activated and used for navigation with the NA V key .

43 Reference FIND K ey Find The FIND key allows you to search the units for user waypoints, map items and any optional BlueChart or MapSource information loaded on a data car d. By pr essing the FIND key , the unit will search for items fr om your curr ent location by default or you may also search fr om other locations.

45 Reference Main Menu Page The GPSMAP 2006/2010’ s Main Menu Page pr ovides access to various waypoint, system, navigation and interface management, and setup menus in an easy to use “tab” format. The Main Menu page is available from any page in the GPSMAP 2006/2010’ s system, and is accessed through the MENU key .
46 Reference GPS Info T ab— provides a visual reference of satellite acquisition, GPS r eceiver status, and accuracy . When the unit is powered up, a GPS Info window will appear after the W ar ning screen. This window will automatically disappear when the unit is ready to navigate.
47 Reference may be limited by your geographic location in relation to those satellites, now in developmental service. W AAS satellite signal reception requir es an absolute clear view of the sky and works best when there ar e no nearby obstructions such as buildings, mountains, etc.

54 Reference Time T ab For the ‘Active’ tab, the following SOFT KEY options are available: • Save— allows you to save the current active track log. • Clear— allows you to clear the active track log currently stored in memory . • Defaults— restores the T racks tab settings to original factory settings.
