CHAPTER 4: Installing Components 32 5 Loosen the thumbscrew (1) holding the retaining c lip (2) agains t the side of the optical drive, then move the retaining cl ip away from the drive. 6 Push the opti cal drive to the r ight to release the drive from the drive bay, then pull the drive out of th e bay .

www.gateway.com 39 Installing and r emoving PCI expansion car ds The system board provides one 280-pin PCI-X/PCI-E x8 expansion slot and one PCI-E x8 expansio n slot. The PCI-X/PCI-E x8 exp ansion slot (on the left side when vie wed from the front of the s erver) can support one P CI-X 100MHz or one PCI-E x8 using the r iser card.
CHAPTER 4: Installing Components 40 5 Place the PCI rise r assembly on a stable, static- free surface, then loosen the scre w (3) holding the card lock in place. 6 Open the card lock ( 4), then pull out the PC I card (5). If you are not r eplacing the PCI card, insert th e slot cover into the back of the riser card assembly .
www.gateway.com 41 10 Insert the new PCI card into the riser card, making sur e any connectors extend through the slot at the back of the assembly and that t he ca rd is ful ly se ate d in th e ri ser card. 11 Close the loc k to hold the c ard in place, then replace the screw that hol ds the lock closed.
CHAPTER 4: Installing Components 42 6 Insert the replaceme nt fan group into the fan cage . 7 Connect the 6-pin fan tach cable from the fan to the fan board.

CHAPTER 4: Installing Components 44 4 Push down, then pull out and up on the two he at sink retention lev ers (1) and move them out of the way . 5 Remove the heat sink from the processor . If the heatsink sticks to t he processor , rotate the heatsink sli ghtly to loosen it.

CHAPTER 4: Installing Components 48 7 Align the new power di stribution board with th e stand-off and locking tabs on the chassis, then place it on the stand-offs and slide it to ward the side of the chassis until t he tab clicks into place. 8 Replace the sc rew you previously removed.

CHAPTER 4: Installing Components 50 8 Holding th e new backplane by the edges only , alig n it with the locki ng tabs on the chassis, then place it on the locking tabs and slide it t o the left until it s tops. 9 Tighten the thumbscrew to secure the back plane.

Ma ke sure that you turn off the server , then unplug the power cord(s) and all other cables connected to the server .

CHAPTER 5: Using the BIO S Setup Utility 58 Opening the BIOS Setup utility The BIOS Setup utility stores basic s ettings for your server . These settings incl ude basic hardware configuration, resour ce settings, and password security . These settings are stored and saved even when the powe r is off .
www.gateway.com 59 Recovering the BIOS If you encounter a problem while you are updating the BIOS, such as a power outage, the BIOS update may not be successful. If the system cont inues to try to boot from the new , corrupted BIOS, you can manually reco ver the old BIOS so you can try another upd ate.
