9 I NST ALLATION • Never install telephone wiring during a lightning storm. • Never install telephone jac ks in wet locations unless the jac k is specifically designed for wet locations. • Never touc h non-insulated telephone wires or terminals, unless the telephone line has been disconnected at the network interface.
10 I NST ALLING THE P HONE 1. Choose an area near an electrical outlet and telephone wall jac k (RJ1 1C). 2. Plug the AC power supply into the electrical outlet and the DC connector into the power jac k on the bac k of the base. CAUTION: Use only A TLINKS, Inc.
11 W ALL M OUNTING NOTE: For best results, charge the telephone/answering system on a flat sur face before hanging it on the wall. 1. T urn the base over . 2. Attac h the wall mounting pedestal by first inserting the tabs on the open edge of the pedestal into the slots on the lower por tion of the bot tom of the base.
12 3. P ress and hold the hour but ton to set the hour (a.m. or p.m.). Example: 1 2AM , 1AM , or 1 2PM , 1PM . 4. P ress and hold the min but ton to set the minute. The time advances in 5-minute intervals. 5. Press and release the day/c hec k button to review the day and time set tings.
13 R ECORDING THE O UTGOING A NNOUNCEMENT F or best results when recording, you should be about nine inc hes from the microphone, and eliminate as muc h bac k ground noise as possible. 1. Make sure the answering system is ON . 2. P ress and hold the announce but ton.
14 S CREENING C ALLS FROM THE B ASE Y ou may screen incoming calls by waiting for the caller to begin leaving a message (to hear who is calling), then pic k up the handset, and press T ALK/ callbac k to speak to the caller . The answering system automatically stops recording when you activate the handset or pic k up an extension phone.
15 3. To erase a messag e fr om the handset: •P ress answerer/delete button to enter into the handset remote access operation. •P ress play/stop on the handset (the 2 but ton). The message plays. •P ress erase (the 0 button) to erase the message during message playbac k.
16 3. P ress program to confirm. NOTE: Press the EXIT button once to keep the previous setting and return to the standby screen. NOTE: To restore the default setting to - - - , press delete/answerer when SET AREA CODE shows in the display . T ONE /P ULSE Most telephone systems use tone dialing, however , some may still use pulse dialing.
17 T ELEPHONE O PERA TION M AKING A C ALL 1. P ress the T ALK/callbac k button. 2. When you hear a dial tone, dial a telephone number . 3. When finished, press the T ALK/callbac k button ag ain to hang up. OR 1. Dial the phone number first, then press the T ALK/callbac k button.
18 TIP: Don't use the T ALK/callback button to activate custom calling services such as call waiting, or you’ll hang up the phone. V OLUME When the phone is ON , press the CID/V OL left (-) or right (+) ar row button to adjust the volume of the handset's earpiece to a comfor table level.
19 This unit receives and displays information transmitted by your local phone company . This information can include the phone number , date, and time; or the name, phone number , date, and time.
20 2. P ress the CID/V OL left (-) ar row but ton to scroll through the call records from the most recent to the oldest. OR 3. P ress the CID/V OL right (+) arrow but ton to scroll through the call records from the oldest to the newest. D ELETING A CID R ECORD 1.
21 3. P ress an y number k ey (0-9) to store the phone number in that memory location. 4. P ress memory and EN TER NAME shows on the display . 5. Use the handset number pad to enter the name, then press memory and EN TER TEL NUMBR shows on the display .
22 3. If the number does not dial as shown, press the mute/format but ton. R epeat if necessary , until the correct number of digits are shown. 4. Press T ALK/callbac k to dial the number . M EMORY Store up to ten 24-digit numbers in memory for quic k dialing.
23 D IALING A S TORED N UMBER 1. Make sure the phone is ON by pressing the T ALK/callbac k button. 2. P ress the memory but ton. 3. P ress the number (0-9) for the desired memory location. The number dials automatically . OR 1. Make sure the phone is OFF (not in T ALK mode).
24 I NSERTING A P AUSE IN THE D IALING S EQUENCE P ress the # pause but ton to insert a delay in the dialing sequence of a stored telephone number . A pause is needed to wait for a dial tone (for example af ter you dial 9 for an outside line, or to wait for a computer access tone).
25 R EMOTE A CCESS Y ou may access the answering system with the cordless handset or from any tone-dial compatible telephone. C ORDLESS H ANDSET 1. P ress the answerer/delete but ton to access the answering system. 2. Use the cor responding handset k eys just lik e you would use the base buttons (see "Answering S ystem Operation.
26 Y ou should erase some messages so the answering system can record new messages. NOTE: The unit also answers after the 10th ring if it is turned off.
27 3. Enter the new 3-digit security code. 4. P ress * T ONE again. B EL T C LIP AND O PTIONAL H EADSET C ONNECTING THE B EL T C LIP To at tac h the belt clip, insert the sides of the belt clip into the slots on eac h side of the handset. Snap the ends of the belt clip into place.
