7 D ESKTOP I NST ALLATION 1 . Make sure the mounting brac k et is securely fastened to ensure proper c harging. The words "This end up for desk use" should be near the top or back of the unit." 2. Set the TONE/PULSE switc h to T ONE for touc h-tone service, or PULSE for rotary service.
8 5. Place handset in the base to c harge for 12 hours. The CHARGE/IN USE indicator (on the base) comes on to indicate that the battery is c harging. If you don’t c harge the handset bat tery properl y (for 12 hours) when you fir st set up the phone, performance of the bat tery will be compr omised.

10 4. Place the handset in the base. 5. Connect the power supply cord into the base and the other end into an AC outlet. The CHARGE/IN USE indicator comes on, indicating the battery is c harging. Allo w the phone to c harge f or 12 hours before using the f irst time.

12 A NSWERING M ACHINE S ETUP This section shows you how to set up your answering mac hine to recei ve incoming calls. Before you begin the setup, you must turn on the answerer . • P ress the ANSWER ON/OFF button to turn the answering mac hine on and off .
13 S ETTING THE R ING S ELECT Set the RING SELECT switc h on the bac k of the unit to choose the number of times you want the phone to ring before the mac hine answers the call.
14 R ECORDING THE O UTGOING A NNOUNCEMENT For best results when recording, you should be about 9 inc hes from the microphone, and eliminate as muc h bac k ground noise as possible. 1 . Make sure the answerer is ON . 2. Press and hold the ANNOUNCE button.
15 If you c hoose not to record an outgoing announcement, a default announcement will play . T o return to the default announcement af ter you have recorded your own outgoing announcement, press the ANNOUNCE button and release it when you hear the beep.
16 A NSWERING M ACHINE O PERA TION This section discusses the but tons and features on the answering mac hine. M ESSAGES I NDICA TOR The base LCD indicator shows you how many messages you have. The messages indicator will be on to indicate you have new messages.
17 M ESSAGE P LA YBACK The base LCD lets you know when you have messages. T o play messages, press PLA Y/ST OP . While a message is playing, you can do the following: • P ress PLA Y/ ST OP to stop the message playbac k.
18 M EMORY F ULL When the memory is full, the system answers after 1 0 rings. Y ou need to erase some messages so the answerer can record new messages.
19 • T o er ase a message from the handset: 1 . Press ANSW button on the handset. 2. Press PLA Y/ST OP on the handset (the 2 but ton). 3. Press ERASE on the handset (the 0 but ton) to erase the message that is playing. NOTE: Erased messages cannot be restored.
20 R EMOTE A CCESS This section explains two types of remote access: using the handset to access the answering mac hine and accessing the answering mac hine from another phone. The handset contains integrated but tons that enable you access the answering mac hine with the handset.
21 U SING THE H ANDSET Press the ANSW button to access the answering machine from the handset. After you access the answerer , use the marked handset k eys just as if you were pressing the corresponding buttons on the base (see "Answering Mac hine Operation" for details on functions).
22 S CREENING C ALLS FROM THE H ANDSET Use the handset to screen calls even when you can't hear the answering mac hine. When the answerer pic ks up: 1 . Press the ANSW button to gain access to the answering mac hine. 2. Listen to the caller leaving a message.
23 M EMORY F ULL When the memory is full, the system answers after 1 0 rings, beeps and waits for the caller to enter the 3-digit security code. If you don't enter the security code within 1 0 seconds after the unit beeps, the phone hangs up. Y ou need to erase some of the messages in order for the system to record new incoming messages.
24 A CCESSING THE A NSWERER FROM A NOTHER L OCA TION Y ou can access your answering mac hine from a touc h-tone phone by entering your 3-digit security code after you hear the outgoing announcement. 1 . Dial the phone number for the answering mac hine.
25 C HANGING THE S ECURITY C ODE The default security code for accessing the answerer from another location is 1 2 3. Y ou must use the handset to c hange the security code. With the phone off , follow these steps: 1 . P ress ANSW (the ANSWER indicator comes on).
26 S ETTINGS F our basic user -programmable features are set and stored in the phone system's Prog menu by pressing the PROG on the handset (PROGRAM on the base) and REVIEW buttons and viewing the display . Of these settings, language and local area code can also be set on the cordless handset.
27 S ETTING THE D ISPLA Y L ANGUAGE 1 . P ress and release PROG on the handset or (PROGRAM on the base) until SET LANGUAGE shows on the display . 2. Press REVIEW repeatedly until desired language is displayed. 3. P ress and release PROG or (PROGRAM on the base) again to store the language setting.

34 M AKING A C ALL F rom the Cordless Handset — Press the T ALK button. W ait for a dial tone. Dial desired number . Using the Base — Press the SPEAKER button.
35 M ANUAL C HANNEL S ELECTION While talking, you might need to manually c hange the channel in order to reduce static caused by baby monitors, garage door openers, or other cordless phones. P ress and release the CHANNEL button to advance to the next clear c hannel.
36 R INGER V OLUME S WITCH Cordless Handset — A two-position switc h permits the cordless handset ringer to be turned off or on. Base Unit — A three-position switc h permits the base unit ringer volume to be set to HI, L O , or OFF . The appropriate ringer switc h must be on for the cordless handset or base unit to ring during incoming calls.
37 L AST N UMBER R EDIAL T o redial the last number you dialed: B ASE U NIT 1 . P ress SPEAKER button. 2. Press the REDIAL button. If you get a busy signal, and want to k eep dialing the number , hang up the base unit. Then, repeat steps 1 and 2. H ANDSET 1 .
38 H OLD Press the HOLD but ton to put a call on hold. The HOLD indicator will blink at half- second intervals. T o take a call off hold, press the HOLD button ag ain and the HOLD indicator will turn off . • T o switc h a call on hold from the base to the cordless handset, press T ALK on the handset.
39 F INDING THE H ANDSET This feature helps to locate a misplaced handset. Press and release the P A GE button on the base. The display shows P AGING . The handset beeps continuously and displays P AGE Y OU for about 2 minutes or until you press INT or T ALK on the handset or P A GE on the base.
40 P RIV ACY M ODE Privacy mode allows an initial user (at handset or base) to prevent anyone from interrupting the conversation by pic king up the line.
41 D ISABLING P RIV ACY M ODE • Hang up the phone. Privacy Mode is automatically canceled. • During a call, press and hold the FORMA T button for more than 2 seconds until you hear a tone. Then press “*” . A confirmation tone comes from the handset, and PRIV ACY DISABLE appears on the display .
42 T EMPORARY T ONE D IALING This feature is useful only if you do not have touc h-tone service. T emporary T one Dialing enables pulse (rotary) service phone user s to access touc h-tone services offered by banks, credit card companies, etc.
43 F ULL D UPLEX S PEAKERPHONE O PERA TION U SING THE B ASE U NIT S PEAKERPHONE F or best speak erphone performance, avoid the following: • Areas with high bac k ground noise. (The microphone might pic k up these sounds.) • Surfaces af fected by vibration.
44 Because this is a full-duplex speak erphone, you can hear and talk at the same time just as you can when using the handset. Note the following guidelines when you use the speak erphone. • Stay reasonably close to the phone so that you can be clearly heard by the person to whom you are speaking.
45 2. Adjust speak erphone volume by sliding the V OLUME control on the right side of the base unit. 3. T o end the call, press the SPEAKER button again. M AKING A C ALL WITH S PEAKERPHONE 1 . P ress and release the SPEAKER button on the base unit and wait for a dial tone.
46 S WITCHING BETWEEN S PEAKER AND H ANDSET Y ou can switc h between speakerphone and either handset after dialing a number , or any time during a conversation. Speak er to Handset — Press T ALK on handset, then press SPEAKER. Handset to Speaker — Press SPEAKER, then hang up the handset.
47 I NTERCOM O PERA TION I NTERCOM C ALLING The intercom feature of your phone system allows you to have an unlimited-duration, two-way conversation between the cordless handset and the base unit without tying up the telephone line. Since the telephone line is not being used, you can still recei ve incoming calls.
48 F ROM THE H ANDSET 1 . Make sure the phone is OFF . 2. Press the INT but ton. A paging tone sounds at the base and handset. (T o cancel intercom, press INT again.) 3. W ait for the per son near the base to press the P AGE/IN TERCOM button. 4. When finished, press INT on the cordless handset to deactivate the intercom.
