7 Operation Be cer tain that all shields, guards, and interlock s witches are in the correct position and operating properly . Bef ore star ting the engine, put the PT O le ver in the “ OFF ” position and the gear shift le v er in the neutr al “ N ” position.
8 TOOLS REQUIRED Phillips Screwdriv er , Needle Nose Pliers, Open-End Wrench: 3/8, 7/16, 9/16 & 3/4 and or Adjustable Wrench REMO VE UNIT FROM CAR T ON Remov e the unit and components from the shipping container . ASSEMBL Y P osition Handlebar 1. Disconnect Ignition Harness.
9 Assemble Steering Brakes (Optional) 1. Remov e nut and bolt from handle br ac kets . (Figure 4) Left Hand Rod: 2. Hook the rear of the left hand brak e rod into the left side of the brak e handle weldment. Bef ore installing on hitch, place the f orward end of the left hand brak e rod below m uf fl er brace .
10 CONTROLS AND FEATURES NO TE: Read the attachment(s) and tractor manuals bef ore operating the equipment. Operate the tractor only from the operator ’ s position, behind the handlebars. Ser vice the tractor and attachment bef ore operating. Ref er to Controls and F eatures f or the f ollo wing.
11 FILL FUEL T ANK Add fuel to the fuel tank as needed. See engine manual f or the correct type and gr ade of fuel. 1. Put the unit in an open area. 2. Stop the engine and lock the br ake . 3. Clean the fuel cap and the area around the fuel cap to pre v ent dir t from entering the fuel tank.
12 NO TE: One of the operator presence control le v ers must be held do wn at all times whene v er the transmission is in gear and/or the PT O lev er is in the “ ON ” position. 6. T o go forw ard, mov e the direction control le v er f orward until the le ver sta ys in the f orw ard position.
13 CHECK ENGINE OIL Check the engine oil daily , or before each use . Nev er operate the engine when the oil le v el is belo w the low mark on the dipstick. See the engine manual f or oil change schedule and detailed instructions. CHECK AIR CLEANER Check the air cleaner daily .
14 3. Clean the dipstick tube and the dipstic k (Figure 6). 4. Remov e the dipstic k, wipe it with a clean cloth or tow el and put it back in the tube . 5. Pull the dipstick out again and look at the oil. 6. If the oil le v el is below the lo w mark on the dipstick, add oil.
15 FORWARD-RE VER SE CLUTCH T o adjust the rev erse clutch (Figure 8) : 1. Loosen the jam nuts on the end of the control e xtension rod in the fwd-re v control rod. 2. Adjust the rear nut so that the direction control le v er stops 15 degrees past v er tical to the rear .
16 PT O BRAKE T o adjust the PTO br ake: 1. Remov e the attachment and lo wer the rear of the tractor to the ground. 2. Carefully clean the front of the transmission. Remov e the quic k hitch studs from the transmission. 3. Remov e the quic k hitch casting and PT O brake assembly (Figure 10).
17 SLIP CLUTCH T o adjust the slip clutch: 1. Remov e the attachment and lo wer the rear of the tractor to the ground. 2. Carefully clean the front of the transmission. 3. Remov e the quic k hitch studs from the transmission. 4. Remov e the quic k hitch PT O assembly and PT O brak e assembly .
18 Check each item in "Bef ore Storage" in the Maintenance Schedule. See Engine Manual f or detailed instructions on prepar ing the engine f or storage . When The T ractor Will Not Be Operated For T wo Months Or More: 1. Do the daily and 25-hour maintenance, b ut do not add gasoline.
