Components Descripti on (1) Power button ● When the computer is off, press the button to turn on the tabl et. ● When the computer is on, press th e button briefly to initiate Sleep. ● When the computer is in the Sleep state, press the button briefly to exit Sleep.

Display Component Description (1) WLAN antennas (2)* Send and receive wire le ss signals. (2) Internal microphones (2) Record audio, automatically filtering out the noise ar ound you and cance lling echoes. (3) Webcam (front) Records video and takes still photographs.
Component Description (8) Near Field Communication (NFC) antenna With HP TouchZone, you can wireless ly connect, communicate and tran sfer data/info to and from your Near Field Communication (NFC)-compatible devices. *The antennas are not visible from the outsid e of the comput er.
Keyboard dock Top Component Description (1) Alignment posts Align and attach the tablet to the keyboard dock. (2) Release latch Releases the tablet. To release the tablet, slide the release latch to the left. (3) Docking connector Connects the tablet to the ke yboard dock.
TouchPad Component Description (1) TouchPad on/off button Turns the TouchPad off or on when you do uble-tap the button. (2) TouchPad zone Reads your finger gestur e to move the pointer or activate items on the screen. (3) Left TouchPad button Functions like the left button of an external mouse.
Lights Component Description (1) Caps lock light ● White: Caps lock is o n. ● Off: Caps lock is off. (2) Mute light ● Amber: Computer sound is off.
Keys Component Description (1) esc key Displays system information wh en pressed in combination with the fn key (select models only). (2) fn Displays system information when pressed in combination with the esc key (select models only). (3) Windows key Returns you to the Start screen from an op en app or the Windows desktop.
Right side Component Description (1) Media card reader Reads data from and writes data to digital memory cards such as Secure Digital (SD). (2) USB 2.0 port Connects an optional USB device.
Left side Component Description (1) HDMI port Connects an optional video or audio device, such as a high- definition television, any compatible digital or audio component, or a high-speed HDMI device.
Releasing the tablet from the keyboard dock To release the ta blet from the ke yboard dock, fo llow these steps: 1. Slide the release lat ch on the keyboard do ck to the left (1) . 2. Lift and remove th e tablet (2) . Locating system information Important system information is located on the bottom edge of the t ablet.
Changing your tablet's view Your tablet's orientation, or vi ew, changes automatically from land scape to portrait view, or from portrait to land scape view. To change the view of your tablet fr om landscape view to p ortrait view: ▲ Hold the tablet horizontal ly, and then turn it 90 deg rees to the right (in a clo ckwise direction).
Scrolling Scrolling is useful for mo ving up, down, or sideways on a page or image. ● Place two fingers slightly apart on the Touc hPad zone and then drag them up, down, left, or right. Pinching/zooming Pinching and zooming allow you to zoom out or in on images or text.
Rotating (select models only) Rotating allows you to turn i tems such as photos. ● Point to an object, then anchor the forefinger of your left hand in the TouchPad zone. Using yo ur right hand, slide yo ur forefinger in a sw eeping motion from 12 o’clock to 3 o’clock.
Edge swipes Edge swipes allow you to access toolbars on your computer for tasks such as changing settings and finding or using ap ps. Right-edge swipe The right-edge swipe accesse s the charms, which let you search, sh are, start apps, access devices, or change settin gs.
IMPORTANT: Wh en an app is active , the top-edg e gesture varies depe nding on th e app. ● Swipe your finger gently from the top edge to display a vailable apps. Left-edge swipe The left-edge swipe accesses yo ur recently opened a pps so that you can switch between them quickly.
TIP: On touch scr een computers, you can perform th e gestures on the screen or on the TouchPad. You can also perfor m on-screen actions with the keyboard and mouse. One-finger slide The one-finge r slide is mostly u sed to pan o r scroll through lists and pa ges, but you can use it for other interact ions, too, such as moving an objec t.
Scrolling Scrolling is useful fo r moving the pointer u p, down, left, or right on a page or image. ● Place two fingers on the screen and th en drag them in an up, down, left, or right motion. Pinching/stretching Pinching and stre tching allows you to zoom out or in on images or text.
Rotating (select models only) Rotating allows you to turn i tems such as photos. ● Anchor the forefinger of yo ur left hand on the object you want to rotate. Using you r right hand, slide your forefinge r around in a swe eping motion from 1 2 o’clock to 3 o’clock.
Left-edge swipe The left-edge swipe accesses yo ur recently opened a pps so that you can switch between them quickly. ● Gently swipe your finger inward from the le ft edge of the display bezel to switch between recently-opened apps. ● Without lift ing your finger, sw ipe back toward t h e left edge to display all recently o pened apps.

Swipe from the right edge of the TouchPad or touch scree n to display the charms, tap Search , and then tap the search box. 2. Type c , tap Control Panel, tap Hardw are and Sound , tap Pen and Touc h , and then follow the on-screen instru ctions.

Tap each character, contin uing until you have spelle d out the name or wo rd that you are entering into the data field.
To calibrate the pe n and change pe n setting s, such as pen sensitivity, on the Start street, tap Control Panel , tap Hardware and Sound , tap Pen a nd Touch , tap Calibrate the scree n for pen or touch input , and then follow the on -screen instructions.
3 Connecting to a network Your computer can tr avel with you wh erever you go. But even at home, you can explor e the globe and access inform ation from millions of we bsites using your computer and a wire d or wireless network connection. This chapter will hel p you get connected to that world.

Setting up a WLAN To set up a WLAN an d connect to the In ternet, you need the following eq uipment: ● A broadband modem (either DSL or cable) (1) and high-spee d Internet service purchased from an .
Connecting to a WLAN To connect to the WLAN, follow these steps: 1. Be sure that the WL AN device is on. 2. From the Windows desktop, ta p or click the network status icon in the no tification area, at the fa r right of the ta skbar. 3. Select yo ur WLAN fro m the list.
4 Enjoying entertainment features Use your HP comput er as an enterta inment hub to socialize via the webcam, e njoy and mana ge your music, and download and watch movies. Or, to make your comput er an even more powerfu l entertainment center, connect externa l devices like a monitor, projec tor, or TV, or spea kers and headphones.
Component Description (3) Volume button Controls speaker volume. ● To increase speaker volume, press the + edge of the button. ● To decrease speaker volume, press the – edge of the button.
Component Description (2) Webcam (front) Records video, captures still photographs, allows you to video conference and chat online using streaming video . Swipe from the right edge of the TouchPad or touch screen to display the charms, tap Search , and then tap the search box.
Using the webcams The computer has two integrated we bcams, which are powe rful social networ king tools that allow you to communicate up close with friends and colleagues , ne xt door or on the othe r side of the wo rld. With the webcams, you ca n stream video with yo ur instant messaging software, capture and share video, and take still photos.
Mode Steps 1. Swipe from the right edge of the TouchPad or touch screen to display the ch arms, tap Search , and then tap the search box. 2. Type c , select Control Panel , select Hardware and So und , and then select Beats Audio Control Panel .

To see the computer scre en image on a h igh-definit ion TV or monitor, connect the hig h-definition device according to the following instructions. 1. Connect one end of th e HDMI cable to the HDMI port on the compu ter. 2. Connect the other en d of the cable to the high-definition T V or monitor.
Configuring HDMI audio settings HDMI is the only video interface th at supports high-definition vid eo and audi o . After you connect an HDMI TV to the computer, you can then turn on HDMI audi o by following these steps: 1.
5 Navigating using the keyboard, touch gestures and pointing devices Your computer allows navi gation us ing touch gestures in additi on to the keyboard and mouse.
TIP: The Windows key on th e keyboard allows you to quickly return to the Start screen from an open app or th e Windows de sktop. Pressing th e Windows key again will return you to the previous screen. NOTE: Depending on the country o r region, your ke yboard may have di fferent keys and keyboard functions than those di scussed in this section.
Icon Key Descriptio n f8 Plays the next track of an audio CD or the next section of a DVD or a BD. f9 Decreases speaker volume incrementally as long as you hold down the key. f10 Increases speaker volume incrementally as lon g as you hold down the key.
Using the hot keys (select models only) A hot key is a combination of the fn key an d either the esc key. To use a hot key: ▲ Briefly press the fn key, and then briefly press the seco nd key of the combination (select models only). Function Hot key Description Display system information.
6 Managing power Your computer can operate on either battery power or external power. Wh en the computer is only running on batte ry power and an AC power source is not a vailable to charge the battery, it is important to monitor and co nserve the battery char ge.
● Press a key on the keyboard . ● Tap or swipe the TouchPad. When the computer exits Sl eep, the power lights turn o n and the compu ter returns to the screen where you stop ped working. NOTE: If you have set a password to be required on wakeup, you mus t enter your Win dows password before the computer will return to the screen.
Using the power meter and power settings The power meter is located on the Windows deskto p. The power meter allo ws you to quickly access power settings and view the remai ning battery ch arge. ● To display the perce ntage of remaining battery cha rge and the current p ower plan, on the Windows de sktop, point ove r the power mete r icon.
Conserving battery power Tips for conserving battery p ower and maximizing battery life: ● Lower the brightness on the display. ● Select the Power saver setting in Power Options.
Running on external AC power For information on connecting to AC power, refe r to the Setup Instructions poster provid ed in the computer box. The computer do es not use battery power wh en the computer is connected to AC external po wer with an approved AC adap ter or an optional docking /expansion device.
Although you can tu rn off the comp uter by holding do wn the power but ton, the rec ommended procedure to shut down computer is to use the Wind ows Shut down co mmand. NOTE: If the computer is in the Sleep state or in Hi bernation, you must first exit Sleep or Hibernation before shutdo wn is possible by b riefly pressing the powe r button.
7 Managing and sharing information Drives are digita l storage devices that help you store, manage, share, an d access information. Your computer has a solid state drive that stores your compute r's software, operating system, a nd also provides stor age for all of your personal f iles.
▲ Connect the USB cab le for the device to the USB po rt. NOTE: The USB port on your compu ter may look slig htly different from the illustration in this section.
Inserting and removing a digital storage card To insert a digita l storage card: CAUTION: To reduce the risk of damage to the digital card connectors, use minimal force to insert a digital card. 1. Hold the card label-side up, with the connecto rs facing the computer.
8 Maintaining your computer It is important to perform regular maintenance to keep you r computer in optimal con dition. This chapter provides information abou t improving the perfo rmance of your comp uter by running too ls such as Disk Defragmenter and Disk Clea nup.
Use a pre-moistened g ermicidal wipe to clean the si des and cover. Fibrous materials, such as paper towels, can scratch the computer. NOTE: When cleaning the cover of the computer, use a circular motion to a id in removing di rt and debris.

9 Securing your computer and information Tablet security is essential for protecting the co nfidentiality, integ rity, and availabil ity of your information.
Setting Windows passwords Password Function User password Protects access to a Windows user account. You may also set up your computer to require the user password to exit Sleep. See Setting password protection on wakeup on page 44 for more information.
Using Internet security software When you use your computer to access email, a ne twork, or the Internet, you potentially expose your computer to computer viruses, spyware, and ot her o nline threats. An antivirus program may be preinstalled on your computer.
Installing HP and third- party software updates HP recommends that you regula rly update the softwar e and drivers that were origin ally installed on your computer. To download the latest versio ns, go to http://www.hp.com/ support . At this locati on, you can also register to receive automatic upd ate notifications whe n they become available .
10 Using Setup Utility (BIOS) and System Diagnostics Setup Utility, or Basic In put/Output System (BIOS), controls co mmunication between all the input and output devices on the system (such as disk drives , display, keyboard, mous e, and printer).
Downloading a BIOS update CAUTION: To reduce the risk of damage to the computer or an u nsuccessful installation, downlo ad and install a BIOS update only when the computer is connected to reli able external power u sing the AC adapter.
Using System Diagnostics System Diag nostics a llows you to run dia gnostic te sts to de termine if the compu ter hardwa re is functioning properly. To start System Diagnostics: 1. Turn on or restart the computer, quickly press esc , and then press f2 .
11 Backing up, restoring, and recovering Your computer includes t ools provided by HP and the operating system to help you safeguard your information and re trieve it if you ever need to . These tools wi ll help you return your computer to a proper working state or even back to the original factory state , all with simple steps.
If you need to correct a problem with a prei nstalled applic ation or driver, use the Drivers and Applications Reinstall o ption of HP Recovery Manager to re install the indi vidual applica tion or driver.
Using Windows Refresh fo r quick and easy recovery When your computer is not work ing properly and you need to regain system stability, the Windows Refresh option allo ws you to start fres h a nd keep what is importan t to you. IMPORTANT: Refresh re moves any traditional applications that were not origina lly installed on the system at the factory.
3. Click Change PC setting s in the bottom-right corne r of the scre en, and then select General from the PC settings screen. 4. Under Remove everythi ng and reinstall Windows , select Get starte d , and follow the on- screen instructions.
Changing the boot order If the computer do es not restart i n HP Recovery Ma nager, you can chan ge the compu ter boot order, which is the order of de vices liste d in BIOS where the computer looks for startup inf ormation. You can change the selection for an optic al drive or a USB fla sh drive.
12 Specifications Input power The power information in this section may be helpfu l if you plan to travel internationally with the computer. The computer op erates on DC power, whi ch can be supplied by an AC or a DC power source. The AC power source must be rated at 100–240 V, 50 –60 Hz.
13 Electrostatic Discharge Electrostatic discharge is the rele ase of static electricity wh en tw o objects come into contact—for example, the sho ck you receive wh en you walk across th e carpet and touc h a metal door knob. A discharge of static ele ctricity from fingers or other electrostati c conductors may damage electronic components.
