Packaging and transporting gui delines Follow these grounding gu idelines when packaging an d transporting equipment: ● To avoid hand contact, transport products in static-safe tubes, bags, or boxes. ● Protect ESD-sen sitive parts and assemblies with conductive or approved containers or packaging.
Equipment guidelines Grounding equipment mu st include either a wrist strap or a foot strap at a grounded workstation. ● When seated, wear a wris t strap connected to a ground ed system. Wrist straps are flexible straps with a minimum of one megohm ±10% resistance in the ground cords.

Display subcomponents (bezel, webcam, panel) This section describes removing dis play subcomponent s that do not require th at you remove the ent ire display assembly from the computer. You can remove the display bezel, webcam/microphone module , and display panel while the display assembl y is still attached to the computer.
4. Flex and disengage the inside edges of the bottom (3) , left and right sides (4) , and top (5) of the bezel. 5. Open the computer and position it on its side with the back and bottom facing y ou.

7. To remove the webcam/microphone module: a. Remove the two broadhead Phillips PM2.5×2. 5 screws (1 ) that secure the display panel and hinges to the enclosure, and then tilt the display panel (2) away from the enclos ure as far as pos sible.

8. To remove the display pa nel: a. Remove the fo ur Philli p s PM2.0×3.0 screws (1) that secure the disp lay hinges to the display pan el, and then tilt the display panel down (2) until it rests on the computer.
c. Release the webcam/microphone module cable that is sec ured to the back of the display panel with adhesive material, and th en rem ove the disp lay panel (3) . Reverse this procedure to reassemble and install the display bezel, webcam/micro phone module, and display panel.

To remove the WLAN module: 1. Loosen the memory module/wirele ss module compartment cover screw (1) , and then lift up on the tab (2) and remove the cover (3) . The memory module/wireless module compartment cover is available in the Plastics Kit. For more inform ation about the Plastics Kit, see Plastics kit on page 23 .

3. Lift the hard drive (2) out of the hard dri ve bay. 4. Turn over the hard drive, then di sconnect the hard drive cable (1) from the hard dri ve. 5. Pull the sides of the hard drive bracket (2) out and away from the hard drive. 6. Remove the hard drive (3) from the bracket.
RTC battery Description Spare part number RTC battery 449137-001 Before removing the RTC battery, follow these steps: 1. Shut down the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on, and then sh ut it down through the operating system.
Optical drive NOTE: The optical drive spare part kit includes the rear optical drive bracket but does not include the optical drive cable or cable bracket. The optical drive cable and cable bracket are incl uded in the optical drive cable kit. See Optical drive cable on page 88 for more information about the optical drive cable and cable bracket.
5. Remove the two Phillips PM2.0×3.0 screws (1) that secure the bracket to the opti cal drive. 6. Remove the optical drive bracket (2) . Reverse this procedure to reassem ble and install the optical drive.

4. Insert a screwdriver or similar small tool into the keyboard release hole (2) , and then press on the back of the keyboard until the keyboard disengages from the computer.

2. Remove the eight Phillips PM2.5×6 .0 screws that secure the top cover to the computer. 3. Remove the four Phillips PM2.0×2.5 screws that secure the top cover to the computer.
4. Remove the Phillips PM2.0×3.0 scr ew from the optical drive bay (1) and the three Phillips PM2.5×4.0 screws from the hard drive bay (2) that s ecure the top cover to the computer. 5. Turn the computer right-side up with the fr ont toward you, a nd th en open the computer.
7. Remove the eight Phillips PM2.0×4 .0 screws that secure the top cover to the computer. 8. Lift the rear edge of the top cover (1) until the left and right sides disengage from the base enclosure. 9. Remove the top cover (2) . Reverse this procedure to install the top cover.

Display assembly This section describes removing th e display assembly i n its entirety and disassembli ng all the display subcomponents. If you only need to remove the display bezel , webcam /microphone module, or display panel, you do not need to remove the entire display assembly from the computer.
2. Release the wireless antenna cables from the clips (2) built into the base enclosure. NOTE: Models may have eith er one or two antennas installed. CAUTION: Support the display as sembly when removing the following screws. Failure to support the display assembly can result in damage to th e display assembly and other computer co mponents.
4. Remove the display as sembly (2) . NOTE: Models may have eith er one or two antennas installed. If it is necessary to replace any of the display assembly subcomponents: 1. To remove the display beze l: a. Remove the two Mylar screw covers (1) and the two Phillips PM2.
c. Remove the display bezel (6) . 2. To remove the webcam/microphone module: a. Remove the two broadhead Phillips PM2.5×2. 5 screws (1 ) that secure the display panel to the enclosure.

3. To remove the hinge covers : a. Remove the two Phillips PM2.5×4.0 screws (1) that secure the top hinge covers to the display enclosure, and then re move the top hinge covers (2) . b. Remove the two Phillips PM2.0×3.0 screws (1) that secure the side hinge covers to the display enclosure, and then re move the side hinge covers (2) .
4. To remove the display panel, cable, and hinges: a. Remove the fo ur Philli p s PM2.5×4.0 screws (1) that secure the disp lay pa nel to the enclosure, and then remove th e display panel (2) from the enclosure.
d. Remove the display hinges (2) . 5. To remove the wireles s ante nna cables and transceivers: a. Release the wireless antenna transceivers (1) from the display enclosure. (The wireless antenna transceivers are attached to the displ ay enclosure with double -sided tape.
System board NOTE: On models with Intel processors, you can remo ve the processor from the system board. The processor is included with the system board in AMD models and cannot be removed. NOTE: The system board spare part kit includes replacem ent thermal materials (inc luding a thermal pad).

3. Remove the Phillips PM2.0×3.0 screw (3) that secures the fan to the system board. 4. Remove the fan/heat sink assembly (4) . NOTE: Due to the adhesive quality of the thermal mate rial locate d between the heat sink and system board components, it may be necessary to move the heat sink from side to side to detach it.
NOTE: The following illustration show s the fan/heat sink assembly re moval process on a computer model equipped with an Intel processor and a graphics subsystem with UMA memory.
The thermal material must be thorou ghly cleaned from the surfac es of th e heat sink and the system board components each time the heat sink is removed. Repl acement thermal materials are included with the fan/ heat sink assembly, pro cessor, and sys tem board spare part kits.

3. Disconnect the power fro m the computer by fi rst un plugging the power cord fr om the AC outlet and then unplugging the AC adapter from the computer.
2. Lift the processor (3) straight up, and then remove it. NOTE: The gold triangle (4) on the proce ssor must be aligned with the triangle icon embossed on the processor socket when you install the processor. Reverse this procedure to install the processor.

Downloading a BIOS update CAUTION: To reduce the ris k of damage to the compute r or an unsuccessful installation, download and install a BIOS update only when the computer is co nnected to reliable external power using the AC adapter.
Using System Diagnostics System Diagnostics allows you to run diagnostic tests to determine if the compute r hardware is functioning properly. To start System Diagn ostics: 1. Turn on or restart the computer, quickly pres s esc , and the n press f2 . 2.

7 Backing up, restoring, and recovering Your computer includes tools provided by HP an d the operating system to help you safeguard your information and retrieve it if you ev er ne ed to. These tools w ill help you return your computer to a proper working state or even back to the origin al factory state, all with simple steps.
Creating recovery media and backups Recovery after a system failure is only as good as your most recent bac kup. 1. After you successfully set up the computer, create HP Recove ry medi a. This step creates a backup of the HP Recovery partition on the computer.
● To create recovery discs, your computer must have an optical drive with DVD writer capability, and you must use only high-quality blank DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-R DL, or DVD+R DL discs.
