This document contains important safety instructions that should be followed during installation, operation, and maintenanc e of the UPS and batteries. Installation 13 1. Attach the side - mounting brac kets to the unit. 2. Loosen th e wing nuts or hex nu ts, and then extend th e brackets to the d esired length.
Installation 14 3. Use the cage nut tool to install cage nuts or clip nuts into the rear of the ra ck. 4. Insert screws through the mounting rail into the cage nu ts or clip nuts.
Installation 15 5. Use the cage nut tool to install cage nuts or clip nuts into the front of the ra ck. 6. Insert a screw through the bottom hole of the mounting r ail into the cage nuts or clip nuts.

IMPO RTANT: P ower managem ent software requ ires the comm unicatio ns p ort to be appropriately cabled to the host computer.
Installation 21 CAUTION: To avoid damag ing the equipment, use the Network Transient Protector with a standard telephone line only, not with a digital PBX. To protect equipment against surges over a network data line: 1. Connect the network wall jack to the UPS Netw ork Transient Protector IN jack.
Installation 22 Before connecting devices, verify that the UPS will not overload by checking that the ratings of the devices do not exceed th e UPS ca pacity. If the equipm ent rating is listed in amps, multiply the number of amps by the selected output voltage to determine the VA.
UPS operation s 23 U P S oper atio ns M odes of operation The UPS has three mo des of operatio n: • Standby mode (on page 23 ) • Operate mode (on page 23 ) • Battery mode (on page 24 ) S tandby mo de In Standby mode: • No power is available at the UPS output receptacles.
UPS operation s 24 B attery mode In Battery mode, the UPS supplies power without being connected to uti lity power. To power up the UPS without using utility power, press and hold the Power On /Standby button (" UPS front panel controls " on page 7 ) for two seco nds.

Maintena nce 26 M aintenance Removing the UP S front bezel R eplacing t he UPS option card This component is hot - swappable and can be replaced without powering down the UPS. 1. (optional) To replace the component with the UPS powered down, refer to " Powering down the U PS (on page 24 ).
Maintena nce 27 To replace th e component , reverse the removal pro cedure. CAUTION: On ly one communicati ons port can be connected to the host computer. Connecting more than one will result in unexpected UPS behavior. If an option car d is installed, the serial and USB commun ications ports are automatically disabled.
Maintena nce 28 • Maintain the ambient temperatur e a t 25°C (77°F). • If storing a UPS for an extended period, recharge the batteries (" Charging the UPS batteries " on page 22 ) every 6 months, and then update the battery recharge date label.
Maintena nce 29 IMPO RTANT: Do not pull the battery leads when removing or installing the batteries. To replace th e component , reverse the removal pro cedure. IMPO RTANT: C harge the batteries for at least 24 hours before supplying backup power to devices.
