2 How Sonar W orks Sonar technology is based on sound waves. The Matrix™ Fishing System uses sonar to locate and define structure, bot tom contour and c omposition, as well as depth directly below the transducer .
4 3 What’ s On the Display The Matrix™ Fishing System can display a v ariety of useful information about the area under and adjacent to your boat, including the following items: Depth - water depth; can be set to alarm when the water becomes too shallow .
Views The views available on your Matrix™ Fishing System ar e: • Sonar View • Zoom View • 200 /83 kHz Split Sonar View • Big Digits View . Sonar View is the default view . When the VIEW key is pressed, the display cycles through the available views.
8 Sonar Zoom View Sonar Zoom View increases the displayed resolution t o separate sonar returns that are very close together , such as those caused by fish suspended close to the bot tom or within structure. In Zoom View , the display is split to show a narr ow slice of the full range view on the right and the zoomed view on the left.
Big Digits View Big Digits View provides digital data in a large, eas y-to- see format. Depth is always displayed. Readouts for temperature, speed and T riplog information ar e displayed automatically if the appropriate accessory is connected t o the system.
12 WhiteLine® highlights the strongest sonar returns in white, resulting in a distinctive outline. This has the benefit of clearly defining the bott om on the display . 11 Bottom Presentation As the boat moves, the unit c har ts the changes in depth on the display to cr eate a profile of the Bot tom Contour .
14 MENU K ey The MENU key is used to access the menu syst em. Start-Up Options Menu - Press the MENU key during the power up sequence t o view the Start-Up Options menu.
Powering Up the Unit T urn on your Matrix™ Fishing System by pressing the POWER/LIGHT key . The Title screen is displayed until the Fishing System begins operation. Y our Fishing System will begin Normal or Simulat or operation, depending on the presence or absence of a transducer .
User Mode (Normal or Advanced) - An Advanced Mode is pro vided for users who desire the highest level of contr ol over the Fishing System and Normal Mode for users who desire greater simplicity and f ewer menu choices.
Simulator Use the Simulator to learn how t o use your Matrix™ Fishing System before taking your boat on the water . The Simulator is a very powerful tool that simulates on the water operation, pr oviding a randomly-updated display .
22 Sonar X -Press™ Menu The Sonar X-Press™ Menu provides access to the settings most fr equently-used. Press the MENU key once while in any of the Sonar Views to access the Sonar X -Press™ Menu. NOTE: Upper Range only appears in Advanced User Mode when in Sonar , Split Sonar or Big Digits View.
24 Upper Range (Advanced: Sonar , Split Sonar and Big Digits Views Only) Upper Range sets the shallowest depth range that will be displayed on the Sonar , Split Sonar and Big Digits Views.
Chart Speed Chart Speed determines the speed at which the sonar information moves across the display , and consequently the amount of detail shown. A faster speed shows more information and is pref erred by most anglers; however , the sonar information moves across the display quic kly .
28 Sonar Menu T ab Press the MENU key twice to access the Main Menu System and then press the RIGHT Cursor k ey to select the Sonar tab. NOTE: 83 kHz Sensitivity , Depth Lines , Sur face Clut ter , Noise Filter , Max Depth, and Wat er T ype only appear in Advanced User Mode.
30 Fish ID+™ Fish ID+™ uses advanced signal processing to interpr et sonar returns, and will display a Fish S ymbol when ver y selective requirements are met. When a fish is detected, a fish icon and its depth are displayed abo ve the return that has been classified as being a fish.
32 83 kHz Sensitivity (Advanced) 83 kHz Sensitivity changes the sensitivity of the 83 kHz beam. Increasing the 83 kHz Sensitivity will display additional weak returns and decreasing the 83 kHz Sensitivity will display fewer weak returns.
34 33 Surface Clutter (Advanced) Surface Clutter adjusts the filter that remo ves sur face clut ter noise caused by algae and aeration. The lower the setting, the less surface clutter will be displayed. The Surface Clutter menu c hoice is available when User Mode is set to Advanced (see Setup Menu T ab: User Mode ).
36 Alarms Menu T ab From any view , press the MENU key twice t o access the Main Menu System. The Alarms tab will be the default selection. NOTE: When an alarm is triggered, you can silence it by pressing any key . The alarm will be silenced, and will not be triggered again until a new instance of the alarm condition is detected.
38 Low Battery Alarm Low Batt er y Alarm sounds when the input bat tery voltage is equal to or less than the menu set ting. The battery alarm will only sound for the batt er y that is connected to the Matrix™ Fishing S ystem.
40 Units - Depth Units - Depth selects the units of measure for all depth- related readouts. T o c hang e the Units - Depth setting: 1. Highlight Units - Depth on the Setup menu. 2. Use the LEFT or RIGHT 4-W A Y Cursor C ontrol keys to c hange the Units - Depth setting.
42 41 Units - Speed (with T emp/Speed or GPS Receiv er) Units - Speed selects the units of measure for speed-related r eadouts, and will appear in the menu if a T emp/Speed Accessory is connected and the paddlewheel has moved at least once, or if a GPS Receiver is connected.
43 44 T o Select Readouts: 1. Make sure you are in Adv anced User Mode, then highlight Select Readouts on the Setup main menu. 2. Use the RIGHT 4-W A Y Cursor C ontrol key to initiate this pr ocedure. 3. The Select Readouts submenu will appear , showing a list of all Readouts.
46 45 Depth Offset (Advanced) Depth Offset will adjust the digital depth readout to indicate depth fr om the waterline or boat's keel. Enter a positive vertical measurement fr om the transducer to the waterline to read the depth fr om the waterline.
47 Views Menu T ab From any view , press the MENU key twice t o access the tabbed Main Menu System, then press the RIGHT 4-W A Y Cursor C ontrol key until the Views tab is selected. This menu tab allows you to set the available views to either hidden or visible in the view rotation.
