GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS 8 – English Chain brake and front hand guar d Y our chain saw is equipped with a chain brak e that is designed to stop the chain if you get a kic kback. The chain brake reduces the risk of accidents, b ut only you can prev ent them.
GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS English – 9 If the kickback is less violent or the kickbac k zone of the bar is closer to you the chain brake is designed to be activated manually by the mo vement of your left hand. • In the felling position the left hand is in a position that makes manual activ ation of the chain brake impossible.
GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS 10 – English with cutting equipment that is blunt or f aulty (wrong type or badly sharpened) will increase the vibration level. Stop switch Use the stop switch to s witch off the engine. Muffler The muffler is designed to keep noise le vels to a minimum and to direct exhaust fumes a wa y from the user .
GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS English – 11 Cutting equipment designed to reduce kickbac k The only wa y to av oid kickback is to mak e sure that the kickbac k zone of the bar nev er touches anything.
GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS 12 – English • The cutting par t of the chain is called the cutter and consists of a cutting tooth (A) and the depth gauge (B). The cutters cutting depth is determined by the difference in height betw een the two (depth gauge setting).
GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS English – 13 Adjustment of depth gauge setting • The cutting teeth should be newly sharpened before adjusting the depth gauge setting. W e recommend that you adjust the depth gauge setting e very third time you sharpen the cutting teeth.
GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS 14 – English Filling with chain oil • All our chain saws ha ve an automatic chain lubrication system. On some models the oil flow is also adjustable. • The saw chain oil tank and the fuel tank are designed so that the fuel runs out before the saw chain oil.
GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS English – 15 Checking wear on cutting equipment Check the chain daily f or: • Visible crac ks in rivets and links. • Whether the chain is stiff. • Whether rivets and links are badly worn. Replace the saw chain if it e xhibits any of the points abov e.
ASSEMBL Y 16 – English Fitting the bar and chain Check that the chain brak e is in disengaged position by moving the front hand guard tow ards the front handle. Unscrew the bar nut and remo ve the clutch cov er (chain brake). T ake off the transpor tation guard.
FUEL HANDLING English – 17 Fuel Note! The machine is equipped with a two-stroke engine and must alwa ys be r un using a mixture of gasoline and two-stroke oil. It is impor tant to accurately measure the amount of oil to be mixed to ensure that the correct mixture is obtained.
FUEL HANDLING 18 – English Fueling Clean the area around the fuel cap. Clean the fuel and chain oil tanks regularly . The fuel filter must be replaced at least once a year . Contamination in the tanks causes malfunction. Make sure the fuel is well mixed b y shaking the container before refuelling.
ST AR TING AND ST OPPING English – 19 Starting and stopping Cold engine Starting: The chain brake should be activ ated when star ting the chain saw . Activate the chain brake b y pushing the front hand guard forw ards. Ignition; choke: Slide the control to its rear position.
ST AR TING AND ST OPPING 20 – English • Nev er star t a chain saw unless the bar , chain and all cov ers are fitted correctly . See instr uctions under the heading Assembly . Without a bar and chain attached to the chain saw the clutch can come loose and cause serious injur y .
WORKING TECHNIQ UES English – 21 Before use: 1 Check that the chain brak e w orks correctly and is not damaged. 2 Check that the throttle loc kout works correctly and is not damaged. 3 Check that the stop s witch works correctly and is not damaged. 4 Check that all handles are free from oil.
WORKING TECHNIQ UES 22 – English 7 T ake great care when cutting a tree that is under tension. A tree that is under tension may spring back to its normal position before or after being cut. If you position yourself incorrectly or mak e the cut in the wrong place the tree may hit y ou or the machine and cause you to lose control.

If the saw chain is jamming, the saw ma y be pushed back at y ou. 8 Unless the user resists this pushing force there is a risk that the chain saw will mov e so far backw ards that only the kickbac k zone of the bar is in contact with the tree, which can lead to a kickbac k.

WORKING TECHNIQ UES 26 – English Felling direction The aim is to fell the tree in a position where y ou can limb and cross-cut the log as easily as possible. Y ou want it to fall in a location where y ou can stand and mov e about safely . The main thing to av oid is that the falling tree top should get jammed in another tree.
WORKING TECHNIQ UES English – 27 a wedge or breaking bar into the cut as soon as it is deep enough. Finish the felling cut par allel with the directional cut line so that the distance between them is at least 1/10 of the trunk diameter. The uncut section of the trunk is called the felling hinge .
WORKING TECHNIQ UES 28 – English How to a v oid kickbac k What is kickbac k? The word kickbac k is used to describe the sudden reaction that causes the chain saw and bar to jump off an object when the upper quadrant of the tip of the bar , known as the kickbac k zone, touches an object.
MAINTENANCE English – 29 Carburetor Y our Husqvarna product has been designed and manuf actured to specifications that reduce har mful emissions. After the engine has used 8-10 tanks of fuel the engine will be run-in.
MAINTENANCE 30 – English High speed jet H • The high speed jet H affects the po wer and speed of the machine. If the high speed jet is set too lean (screwed in too f ar) it will cause the machine to over- rev and damage the engine . T urn the high speed jet H anticlockwise until it stops.
MAINTENANCE English – 31 go of the front handle. The chain should stop immediately . Throttle loc kout • Make sure the throttle control is loc ked at the idle setting when the throttle lock out is released. • Press the throttle lock out and make sure it returns to its original position when you release it.
MAINTENANCE 32 – English Muffler Nev er use a machine that has a faulty muffler . Regularly check that the muffler is securely attached to the machine. Some mufflers are equipped with a special spark arrestor screen. If your machine has this type of muffler , you should clean the screen at least once a week.
MAINTENANCE English – 33 T ensioning the recoil spring • Hook the star ter cord in the notch in the pulley and turn the star ter pulley about 2 turns clockwise. Note! Check that the pulle y can be tur ned an additional 1/2 turn when the star ter cord is pulled all the wa y out.
MAINTENANCE 34 – English Spark plug The spark plug condition is influenced by: • Incorrect carburetor adjustment. • An incorrect fuel mixture (too much or incorrect type of oil). • A dir ty air filter . These factors cause deposits on the spark plug electrodes, which ma y result in operating problems and star ting difficulties.
