6 – English SAFETY INSTR UCTIONS Chain brake and front hand guar d Y our chain saw is equipped with a chain br ake that is designed to stop the chain immediately if you get a kic kback. The chain brak e reduces the risk of accidents, but only y ou can pre vent them.

English – 9 SAFETY INSTR UCTIONS Grasp the chain sa w firmly , wrapping your fingers and thumbs around the handles. Apply full throttle and activate the chain br ake b y tilting your left wrist forw ard onto the front hand guard. Do not let go of the front handle.
10 – English SAFETY INSTR UCTIONS If the muffler on y our machine is fitted with a spark arrestor mesh this must be cleaned regularly . A bloc ked mesh will cause the engine to ov erheat and may lead to serious damage. Never use a m uffler if the spark arrestor mesh is missing or defective.
English – 11 SAFETY INSTR UCTIONS Some terms that describe the bar and chain When the cutting equipment supplied with your sa w becomes worn or damaged you must replace it with one of the bars and chains recommended by us . See the T echnical data section.
12 – English SAFETY INSTR UCTIONS 4 Round file diameter 5 File depth It is very difficult to shar pen a chain correctly without the right equipment. W e recommend that you use our file gauge . This will help you obtain the maxim um kickbac k reduction and cutting perf ormance from your chain.
English – 13 SAFETY INSTR UCTIONS • T o adjust the raker clearance y ou will need a flat file and a rak er gauge. • Place the gauge ov er the raker lip . • Place the file ov er the par t of the lip that protr udes through the gauge and file off the e xcess.
14 – English SAFETY INSTR UCTIONS Checking c hain lubrication • Check the chain lubrication each time you refuel. Aim the tip of the bar at a light coloured surf ace about 20 cm (8 inches) aw a y . After 1 minute running at 3/4 throttle you should see a distinct line of oil on the light surf ace.
English – 15 SAFETY INSTR UCTIONS Bar Check regularly: • Whether there are burrs on the edges of the bar . Remov e these with a file if necessar y . • Whether the groov e in the bar has become badly wor n. Replace the bar if necessar y . • Whether the tip of the bar is une ven or badly w orn.
16 – English SAFETY INSTR UCTIONS 3 Most kickbac k accidents happen dur ing limbing. Make sure you are standing firmly and that there is nothing in the wa y that might make you trip or lose your balance .
English – 17 SAFETY INSTR UCTIONS Starting • Ne ver start a chain saw unless the bar , chain and all cov ers are fitted correctly . • The chain brak e should be activated when starting (see section on “Star ting”). Do not drop star t. This method is very dangerous because you ma y lose control of the saw (see section on “Star ting”).

See instructions under the heading How to a v oid kickbac k. Bef ore using a chain saw y ou must understand the diff erence between cutting with the top and bottom edges of the bar .
English – 19 SAFETY INSTR UCTIONS There are five important factors you should consider before making a cut: 1 Make sure the cutting equipment will not jam in the cut. 2 Make sure the object y ou are cutting will not split. 3 Make sure the chain will not strike the g round or any other object during or after cutting.
20 – English SAFETY INSTR UCTIONS Star t by cutting from abo v e (about 1/3 of the wa y through). Finish by cutting from belo w so that the two cuts meet. Limbing When limbing thick br anches you should use the same approach as f or cutting. Cut difficult branches piece b y piece.
English – 21 SAFETY INSTR UCTIONS Felling F elling is done using three cuts. First you make the directional cuts, which consist of the top cut and the bottom cut, then y ou finish with the f elling cut. By placing these cuts correctly you can control the f elling direction very accurately .
22 – English SAFETY INSTR UCTIONS Limbing Make sure that y ou can stand and move about saf ely . Work on the left side of the trunk. W or k as close as possib le to the chain saw f or maximum control. If possible, let the w eight of the chain saw rest on the trunk.

24 – English ASSEMBL Y Fitting the bar and chain Check that the chain br ake is in disengaged position b y moving the front hand guard to wards the front handle . Remov e the bar nuts and remove the clutch co v er (chain brak e). T ake off the transportation r ing (A).
English – 25 FUEL HANDLING Fuel CA UTION! The machine is equipped with a two-strok e engine and must alwa ys been run using a mixture of gasoline and two-strok e engine oil. It is impor tant to accurately measure the amount of oil to be mix ed to ensure that the correct mixture is obtained.
26 – English FUEL HANDLING Chain oil • The chain lubrication system is automatic and we recommend the use of special oil (chain oil) with good adhesion characteristics. • In countries where no special chain oil is av ailable , EP90 transmission oil can be used.

28 – English ST AR TING AND ST OPPING Star ting and stopping Cold engine Starting: The chain brak e should be activ ated when star ting the chain saw . Activate the chain brak e by pushing the front hand guard f orwards . Ignition; choke: Set the choke control in the chok e position.
English – 29 ST AR TING AND ST OPPING Pull the front hand guard tow ards the front handle. The chain brak e is now disengaged. Y our saw is ready f or use.
30 – English MAINTENANCE Carb urettor Y our Husqvarna product has been designed and manuf actured to speci fi cations that reduce har mful emissions.

32 – English MAINTENANCE Fitting the starter • To fi t the star ter , fi rst pull out the star ter cord and place the star ter in position against the crankcase. Then slowly release the star ter cord so that the pulley engages with the pawls . • Fit and tighten the screws that hold the starter .
English – 33 MAINTENANCE Consequently , ne ver w ork in an enclosed or badly ventilated area. Good air circulation should alwa ys pre v ail when working in snowy hollo ws, ra vines or in con fi ned conditions.
34 – English MAINTENANCE Heated handles (346XPG, 353G) On models with the model code XPG/G both the front handle bar and the rear handle are equipped with electrical heating coils. These are supplied with electricity from a generator b uilt into the chain saw .
English – 35 MAINTENANCE Below y ou will fi nd some g eneral maintenance instructions. Daily maintenance 1 Check the throttle trigger f or smooth operation. If any binding occurs or if engine f ails to return to idle, the machine should be taken to y our dealer, bef ore it is used again.
