3 SAFETY R ULES II. SLOPE OPERA TION Slopes are a major f actor related to loss of control and tip-ov er accidents , which can result in se v ere injur y or death. Opera- tion on all slopes requires e xtra caution. If you cannot bac k up the slope or if y ou f eel uneasy on it, do not mow it.
4 SAFETY R ULES • Remov e gas-po wered equipment from the truck or trailer and refuel it on the ground. If this is not possib le, then refuel such equipment with a por table container , rather than from a gasoline dispenser nozzle.

7 CHECK TIRE PRESSURE The tires on your tr actor were o verinfl ated at the f actor y f or shipping pur poses. Cor- rect tire pressure is impor tant for best cutting perf or mance. • Reduce tire pressure to PSI sho wn on tires. CHECK DECK LEVELNESS F or best cutting results, mo wer hous- ing should be properly lev eled.

11 T O ADJUST GA UGE WHEELS Gauge wheels are prop er ly ad just ed when they are slight ly off the ground when mow er is at the desired cutting height in operating position. Gauge wheels then keep the dec k in proper position to help pre v ent scalping in most terrain conditions.

14 PURGE TRANSMISSION CA UTION: Ne v er engage or dis- en gage freewheel le ver while the engine is run ning. T o ensure proper operation and per- fo r mance, it is rec om mend ed that the trans mis sion be purged before oper ating trac tor f or the fi rst time .
15 MO WING TIPS • Tire chains cannot be used when the mow er hous ing is attached to trac tor . • Mo wer should be properly le veled f or best mowing perf or mance. See “T O LEVEL MO WER HOUSING” in the Ser vice and Adjustments section of this manual.

17 Blade Blade Bolt (Special) Center Hole Star Mandrel Assembly BLADE REMO V AL 1. Raise mow er to highest position to al- low access to b lades. NO TE: Protect y our hands with glov es and/or wrap b lade with heavy cloth. 2. Remov e b lade bolt by turning coun ter - clock wise .
18 V -BEL TS Check V -belts f or deter ioration and w ear after 100 hours of operation and replace if necessar y . The belts are not ad just able . Re place belts if they begin to slip from wear . TRANSAXLE COOLING The transmission f an and cooling fi ns should be kept clean to assure proper cooling.
19 ENGINE OIL FIL TER Replace the engine oil fi lter e v er y sea son or e v er y other oil change if the tractor is used more than 100 hours in one year . MUFFLER Inspect and replace corroded muffl er and spark arrester (if equipped) as it could cre- ate a fi re hazard and/or dam age.

21 9. Install belt onto engine clutch pulley (M). IMPORT ANT : Check belt f or proper rout- ing in all mow er pulley g roov es. E F H J A B C D 7. 22 T O LEVEL MO WER Make sure tires are properly infl ated to the PSI shown on tires . If tires are ov er or under infl ated, it ma y aff ect the appear- ance of your la wn and lead y ou to think the mow er is not adjusted properly . VISU AL SIDE-T O-SIDE ADJUSTMENT 1.
23 NO TE: Each full turn of the adjustment nut will change mo wer height about 1/8". • Rechec k measurements, adjust if nec- essar y until front tip of blade is 1/8" to 1/2" low er than the rear tip . • Hold adjustment n ut in position with wrench and tighten jam nut securely against adjustment nut.
24 6. Pull belt slack to ward rear of tr ac tor . Carefully remov e belt up wards from trans mis sion input pulley and ov er cooling f an blades (F). 7. Remov e belt do wnward from engine pulley and around electric clutch (G). 8. Slide belt tow ard rear of tractor , off the steering plate (H) and remov e from tractor .
25 T O ST ART ENGINE WITH A WEAK BA T - TER Y W ARNING: Lead-acid batter ies gen- er ate ex plo sive gases . K eep sparks, fl ame and smoking ma te ri als awa y from bat- ter ies. Alwa ys wear ey e pro tec tion when around batteries. If your battery is too weak to star t the engine, it should be recharged.
26 T O REMO VE HOOD AND GRILL AS- SEM BL Y 1. Raise hood. 2. Unsnap headlight wire connector . 3. Stand in front of tractor . Grasp hood at sides, tilt to ward engine and lift off of tractor . 4. When replacing hood, be sure to re- connect the headlight wire con nec tor .
27 ST ORA GE Immediately prepare your tr actor f or stor- age at the end of the season or if the trac- tor will not be used f or 30 da ys or more. W ARNING: Ne v er store the trac tor with gas o line in the tank inside a building where fumes ma y reach an open fl ame or spark.
