Chapter 1. Installation and user ’ s guide Introduction The iL1210 IBM ® MicroPortable Pr ojector is specifically designed for the mobile presenter . It generates crisp, clear images using Digital Light Processing (DLP) technology and featur es an M1-DA connector .
Unpacking the projector The projector comes with the items shown in the following illustration. Check to make sure that all items ar e included. Contact your dealer immediately if anything is missing. If you are experienced in setting up pr esentation systems, use the Quick Start card that was included with this option.

Setting up the projector Before turning on your pr ojector , make sur e all connections are made. Use the following procedur e to set up the pr ojector: 1. Place the projector on a flat surface. v The projector must be within 3 meters (10 feet) of your power sour ce and within 1.

Note: If you are connecting the pr ojector to a computer , make sur e that the distance between the computer and the projector is 6 feet or less. 1 Computer 2 V ideo 3 Power cord .
Connecting a computer to the projector The projector comes with an analog computer cable. If your computer has a digital output port, you can use the optional digital computer cable, which is sold separately . See “ Accessories ” on page 28 for or dering information.

If you are connecting the pr ojector to an older Macintosh computer that does not have a 15-pin connector , you must use a Mac adapter between the computer and the projector .
Connecting a video player Use the following procedur e to connect a video player . v If your video player uses a round, one-pr ong composite video connector , use the composite video cable. v If your video player uses a round, four -pr ong S-video connector , use the S-video cable.

3. Press the Power switch on the back of the pr ojector . The fans start to run, and the LED on the top of the projector lights gr een until the startup screen displays. It takes about one minute for the image to achieve full brightness. 4. If you connected a video player , turn it on.

Chapter 2. Using the projector This chapter describes how to use and make adjustments to the projector . It also provides a r efer ence to the keypad, remote contr ol buttons and the options that are available fr om the on-scr een menus.
The projector is equipped with a self-locking, quick-r elease elevator foot and button. T o raise the projector: 1. Press and hold the elevator button 1 (see the following illustration). 2. Raise the projector to the height that you want, then r elease the button to lock the elevator foot 2 into position.
Using the remote control T o use the Forward and Back buttons on the remote contr ol to advance slides in PowerPoint, you must connect the USB mouse connector on the computer cable to the computer . See “ Connecting a computer to the projector ” on page 7 for details.
Using the keypad and remote control buttons While the menus are displayed, the Sour ce and Reset buttons on the keypad act as menu navigation and adjustment buttons, and the menu/select button acts as a select button. See “ Using the on-screen menus ” on page 18 for details.
Keystone (remote only) Use this feature to adjust the image vertically and make a squar e image. Pr ess the Keystone + button to reduce the upper part of the image 1 , and pr ess the Keystone - button to reduce the lower part 2 . Y ou can also adjust the keystone from the Display menu.
Using the on-screen menus The projector has menus that enable you to make image adjustments and change a variety of settings. These adjustments are not available dir ectly fr om the keypad. Note: Some menu items might be unavailable at certain times (grayed out or dimmed).
Display menu T o access the Display menu settings, press the Menu/Select button to display the Main menu, press the down arr ow to highlight Display , then press Menu/Select again to access the Display menu. Keystone This option helps to keep the image square as the angle of pr ojection.
Use the up and down arrows to highlight T int, press Menu/Select, use the arrows to adjust the tint, then pr ess Menu/Select to accept your changes. Color The color setting adjusts a video image from black and white to fully saturated color .
W idescreen. Highlight Resize, press Menu/Select, use the up or down arr ows to cycle through the options, then pr ess Menu/Select to select. Auto Image The projector automatically adjusts tracking, signal synchr onization and vertical and horizontal position for most computers.

Positioning adjustments are saved when you turn of f the pr ojector . V ertical position Follow these steps to manually adjust the vertical position: 1.
V ideo standard (video sources only) When V ideo is set to Auto, the pr ojector attempts to pick the video standar d (NTSC, NTSC 4.43, P AL, or SECAM) automatically based on the input signal it receives. (The video standar d options may vary depending on your r egion of the world.
Advanced menu T o access the Advanced menu settings, pr ess the Menu/Select button to display the Main menu. Press the down arr ow to highlight Advanced; then press Menu/Select again to access the Advanced menu. Rear projection When you turn Rear Projection on, the projector r everses the image so you can project fr om behind a translucent scr een.
Status menu This is a read-only menu for informational purposes. T o display the Status menu, highlight Status from the Main menu, then pr ess Menu/Select. Lamp hours used Indicates how many hours the current lamp has been in use. The counter starts at zero hours and counts each hour the lamp is in use.

Appendix B. Maintenance and troubleshooting This section describes how to: v Clean the lens v Replace the projection lamp v Replace the batteries in the remote v Use the security lock feature v T r oubleshoot the pr ojector Cleaning the lens Follow these steps to clean the projection lens: 1.
Replacing the projection lamp W ARNING: T o avoid burns, allow the projector to cool for at least 30 minutes before you open the lamp access grill. Never extract the lamp module while the projector is operating. The lamp hour counter in the Status menu counts the number of hours the lamp has been in use.
4. Pull the yellow tab 1 on the lamp module. W ARNING: Be extremely car eful when r emoving the lamp module. In the unlikely event that the bulb breaks, small glass fragments might be generated. The lamp module is designed to contain these fragments, but use caution when removing the lamp module.
5. Loosen the captive screw on the lamp module. W ARNING: Never operate the projector with the lamp access grill r emoved. This disrupts the air flow and causes the pr ojector to overheat.
6. Grasp the pull tab 1 to pull the lamp module out. Dispose of the lamp module in an environmentally pr oper manner . W ARNING: Do not drop the lamp module or touch the glass bulb. The glass may shatter and cause injury . 7. Install the new lamp module.
Replacing the batteries in the remote control The life of the batteries depends on how often and how long you use the remote contr ol. Symptoms of low battery char ge include erratic responses when using the remote contr ol and a r educed range of operation.
Using the security lock The projector has a security connector to use with a computer lock system. Go to http://www .compu-lock.com for ordering information. Refer to the information that comes with the lock for instructions on how to secur e it to the projector .
T roubleshooting Problem: The projector is not running. v Make sure that the power cor d is pr operly connected to a fully functional ac electrical outlet. Make sure that the power cor d is also pr operly connected to the projector . v If the projector is plugged into a power strip, make sur e the power strip is turned on.
Problem: The screen resolution is not correct. v Make sure the computer ’ s video card is set for a r esolution of no greater than 1280 x 1024. Problem: Image is not centered on the screen. v Move the projector to r eposition the image. v Reposition the image using the menu.
Problem: Projected colors don ’ t match the computer or video player color . Just as there ar e dif ferences in the displays of dif fer ent monitors, there ar e often differ ences between the computer image and the pr ojected image. Adjust the brightness, tint and/or contrast from the Display menu.
