This chapter exp lains how to set u p your QMS 1725E Print System for th e first t im e. It includes inf ormatio n on findi ng a good locati on for the printer , unpacking i t and ch ec king t he shipment content s, inst alli ng a toner cartridge and paper cassette, and print ing a start-u p page.
Enough space to allow you to o pen the top cover , access the re ar delive ry tray , and slide out the pape r cassettes. Y our print er requires a prope rly groun ded AC outlet with a power range of ±10% o f the rated volta ge (100, 1 10/120, or 220/ 240 V).
In addition to this manual, your shipment consist s of the followin g items. As yo u unpack the printer in the next secti on, make sure that all o f these items are i n c luded i n your shipmen t before set t ing up y our printe r . If any items are missing or damaged, contact your shipping company or your QMS vendor .

One is on each side of the f user assembly . 3 Grasp the spac ers and g ently pul l them out fr om un der the fuser ass embl y .

3 Gently pu sh the c ar trid ge into the top of the prin ter unti l it fits firml y . Y ou m ay need to steady the top of the print er with your other hand. 4 Grasp the tab pro trud ing from the lef t side of the ton er c ar- tridge an d flex i t to break it loose.
5 Firml y pull the tab and seal ing tape strai gh t out unti l all 22 inche s (56 cm) of clea r tape are com p letel y ou t of the car- tridge. Discard the ta b a nd tape. 6 Ma ke sure the ton er cartri dg e is in posi tio n by pushin g it in as far as i t will go; then cl ose the pr int er .
3 Place the c overs on the cassettes. 4 Slide the fil led cassettes into the op en in gs in front of the printer . 1 In an u pwar d direction , insert the two-end tabs of the face-up tray into the slo t on the back of the printe r . 2 Allow the extended par t of the tray to l ean bac k until it rests easily .

3 Connecting t o a PC Connecting via the para llel port Connecting via the serial port.

Serial Cable a Connect the serial cable (with the nul l mo de m adapter attached) to the PC’s 9- or 25-pin male se rial port.
T o test commun icati on betwee n your printer and your PC, first crea te a short fi le that ejects a page from the printer . Then send the file to the prin ter . T o crea te the test f ile, t ype the follo wing comma nd s at the DOS prompt: copy con printest.

Screen fonts allow yo u to see on the screen how your document looks before it is printed . However , you can use the printer fon ts with - out having the corresponding screen fonts.

The Eth ernet port, also refe rred to as the QMS CrownNet network interface, is a combinat ion of hardware an d host software that allows your QMS 1725 E printe r to be connected t o an Ethernet ne tw.
Thin-wire Ethernet connecti ons use BNC connecto rs. 1 T urn off the printer and unpl ug the power cord. 2 Attach one sectio n of thi n-wi re Ethern et cable to on e end of the BNC “T” conn ec- tor . 3 Attach another sectio n of thin-wi re Ether- net cable or a 50 oh m termi na tor to the other end of the BNC “T” conn ector .
T wisted -pair Ethernet connectio ns use RJ45 connectors. CrownAdm in software is provided for DOS /Windo w s and Macintosh System , CrownNet Manager software is provide d for O S/2, and UNI X host software is provided for UNIX. Use the appropriate procedure to install the softwa re on your host.

The control panel, locat ed on the fron t of the printer , allows you to direct the printer ’s operation . In addit ion, i t displays the current stat us of the printe r , inclu ding any condit ion th at needs your at tent ion.
Indicato rs on the control panel d isp lay printe r status inf orma tion , cur- rent media source, and paper jam locations. Flash es when th e printer is warming up. It remains on when the pr inter is re ady to re ceive a print job and while it is pro cessing or pr inting a job ( u nle s s an er ror is encountered).
The control pane l message window p ro vides status a nd conf igurat ion informa tion. Status messages are list ed in chapter 6, “T roublesho ot- ing,” of the Operati on guide. Status messages and confi gurat ion me nus can be displayed in the messa ge window in En glish, French, German , or S pan ish.

Press the Cancel key to cancel all print jobs currently printing, inter preti ng, or s pooling; or to send a n end-of- job indicator to print jobs waiting for incoming data.
