1 Unpack the box Here’s what’s included: Projector Power Cord Remote Composite Video Cable CD-ROM Put batteries in the remote The remote uses 2 AA batteries.
3 Connect source You can connect more than one source if needed. Use optional cables (not included) for improved video quality Use: S-Video Cable Separates color from brightness to improve quality.
4 Turn on projector and source Connect the power cord to the projector and to an electrical outlet The green light on the projector near the power button w ill turn on. Turn on the projector Press power (on the projector or remote). The green light on the projector will start blinking.
5 Adjust the picture Height 1 Keystone 2 Zoom and focus 3 Aspect ratio 4 zoom (outer ring ) focus (inner ring) Tilt the projector up or down. Press menu (on projector or remote). Press or to highlight Picture , then press select . Press or to highlight Ke yston e , then press select .
6 Turn off the projector 7 It’s quick, easy, and secure. Activate your warranty to ensure eligibility for service and support. Get special offers and notifications about free product updates. Write down your projector’s serial number It’s printed on the label on the back of the proj ector.

3 Intr oduction Yo u r n e w I n F o c u s projector is specifically designed for home theater appli - cations. It sets a high standard usin g the latest DLP™ technology and new DNX video processing fr om Pixelworks™.
4 Connector P anel The pr ojector provides t he following connection options: • M1-DA/DVI ( Digital V isual Interface) • HDMI™ (High Definit ion Multimedia I nterface) • Component (RCA) • SCAR T RGB (you must enable this connector , see page 26) •S - v i d e o • Composite video (RCA) See “V ideo connectors” on page 7 for details.
5 P ositioning the pr ojector T o determine wher e to position the pr ojector , consider the size and shape of your screen, the location of your po wer outlets, and the distance bet ween the project or and the rest of your eq uipment. Here ar e some guidelines: • Position the pr ojector on a flat surface at a right angle to the scr een.
6 Choosing the aspect ratio Aspect ratio is the ratio of the im age width to image height. HDTV and most DVDs are 16:9, which is the defa ult for this projector .
7 Video connectors The first step for connecting video is determining what type of output con - nectors your video device has. If ther e is more than o ne output, select the one with the highest quality .
8 Connecting a video de vice Y ou can connect video devic es such as VCRs, DVD players, camcor ders, digital cameras, video game consoles, HDTV receiv ers, and TV tuners to the projector . Connect the audio from your video device to your stereo system to get sound.
9 Digital connections The M1-DA/DVI and HDMI (High- Definition Multimedia Interface) con - nectors ar e digital and yield the highest quality image. It is comm on for these signals to be encryp ted with HDCP (high-bandwidth digital -content protectio n).
10 Displa ying an imag e Connect the power cord to the Pow e r connector on the back of the projector and to your electrical outlet. NO TE : Always use the power cor d that shipped with the projector . Press the Po w e r b utton on the remote or keypad.
11 Adjust the zoom and focus. If the imag e is not square, adju st th e keystone using the Picture menu. See page 22 for details. Adjust the volume on your stereo r eceiver . Y our projector has been factory opti mized for very good performance no matter what the source.
12 Shutting do wn the pr ojector P o wer S ave The project or also has a Power Save feature that automatically turns the lamp off after no active sour ces are de tect ed and no user inte raction with the projector is performed for 20 minutes. By default, this fe ature is on.

18 Using the r emote contr ol The re mote uses two (2) pr ovided AA ba tteries. They a re easily i nstalled by sliding the cover off the r emote’s back, aligning the + and - ends of the bat - teries, slid ing them into place, and then repl ac ing th e c ov er .
19 Using the k e ypad buttons Most buttons are described in detail in other sections, but here is an over - view of their functions: Menu –opens the on-screen menus ( page 21 ). Select –confirms choices made in the menus ( page 21 ). Up/Do wn arr o ws –navigates to and adjus ts settings in t he menus ( page 21 ).
20 Optimizing video imag es Y our projector has been factory opti mized for very good performance no matter what the source. However , if yo u wish to make further c hanges you can optimize the image using onscreen menus. Fo r general information on using the menus, see page 21.
21 Using the menus T o open the menus, pr ess the Menu button on the keypad or remote. (The menus automatically close after 60 seconds if no buttons ar e pr essed.) The Main menu appears. U se the arrow buttons to move up and down to high - light the des ired submenu, then press the Select button.
22 Pictur e menu T o adjust the following setting s, highlight the setting, pr ess Select , use the up and down arrows to adju st the values, then press Select to co nfirm the changes. Ke y s t o n e : adjusts the image vertically and makes a squar er image.
23 Presets : This allows you to customize settings and save the settings to be restor ed later . T o r estore the factory default settings, choose Factory Reset in the Settings>Service menu. T o set a prese t for the cu rrent source , adjust the image, select Sa v e Settin gs in the Presets menu, then choose Save Us er 1, 2, or 3.
24 Advanced menu Remember that not all options in the menus are available for all sources/ signals. Phase : adjusts the horizo ntal phase of a computer source. Tr a c k i n g : adjusts the vertical scan of a computer source. Horizo ntal/V er tical P osition : adjusts the position of a computer source.
25 Color T emperature : changes the intensity of the colo rs. Select a value. Native means an un corrected/unchanged color temperatur e. Other values change the white point of the colors. 6500K is generally used for film con - tent and 9300K is used fo r TV video.
26 Settings menu Sour ces: allows programming of sour ce buttons, enables autoso urce, and enables the SCAR T RGB source. When Autosource is selected, the Source Enable featur e indicates which sour ces the pr ojector attempts to lock onto.
27 Startup Logo : allows you to displa y a blank sc reen or a custom captured image instead of the default screen at startup. T o captur e a new image, display the image and select Capt ure New . A mes - sage appears. Select Captured in th e Startup Logo menu to display your new image.
28 Ser vice : T o use these features, highlight them and press Select . Facto r y Reset : restor es all setting s to their defaul t. Reset Lamp hours : resets the lamp hours used counter in the Service Info menu to zero. Do this onl y after changing the lamp.
29 Maintenance Cleaning the lens 1 Apply a non-abrasive camera lens cleaner to a s oft, dry cloth. • A void us ing an excessive amount of cleaner , and don’t apply the cleaner directly to the lens. Abrasive cleaners, solvents or other harsh chemicals might scratch the lens.
30 4 Push the 2 tabs on the lamp door towar d the front of the pr ojector and lift the lamp door off. 5 Loosen the three captive scr ews that attach the lamp ho using to the pr o - jector . 6 Detach the lamp connector fr om the pr ojector by depr es sing the locking tab on the connector and lightly pulling it free.
31 10 Replace the lamp door . 11 Replace the base or ceiling mount plate, if necessary . 12 Plug in the power cord and press the Po w e r button on the remote or keypad to turn the projector back on. 13 T o re set the lamp hour timer , navigate to the Settings>Ser vice menu and select Reset Lamp Hours .
32 Appendix Red LED beha vior and pr ojector er r ors If the projecto r is not fu nctioning pro perly and the LED is blinking r ed, con - sult Ta b l e 4 to determine a possible cause.
