6 P ositioning the pr ojector Ther e are a number of fa ctors to co nsider wh en determining where to set up the proj ector , including th e size and shape of your screen , the location of your power outlets, and the distance between th e projector and the re st of your equipment.
7 Video connections Y ou can connect VCRs, DVD players, camcorders, digital camera s, video ga m e s , H D T V r ec e i ve r s , a n d TV t u ne r s to t h e p ro j e c to r . ( Y o u c an n o t d i re c tl y connect the coax ial cable that enter s your hous e from a cable or sa tellite company; th e signal must pass through a tuner first.
8 Connecting a video de vi ce If your v ideo device h as mor e than one ou tput, select the high est quality one. DVI vide o has the bes t quality , followed by Component vi deo, S-video, and then compos ite video.
9 Displaying a video image Remove the lens cap. Pr ess the Po w e r bu tton on the top of the project or . The proje ctor chimes if the chime feature is enabled (page 30). The LED flashes gr een an d the fans start to run. When the lamp comes on, the startup scr een display s and the LE D is ste ady green .
10 Adjust the zoom or focus rin gs by rotating them until th e desired image si ze and sharpness ar e produced. If the image is not squar e, adjust the keystone us ing the buttons on the key- pad.
11 Connecting a computer Connect either a VESA cable or M1 cab le into the appr opriate connector on the proj ector . Connect the other end to the vide o port on your computer . If you are using a desk top computer , you first need to dis connect the monitor cable fr om the computer ’s video port.

20 Using the k e ypad buttons Most bu ttons ar e describe d in detai l in other sec tions, bu t her e is an ov er- view of the ir function s: Po w e r –turns the pro jector on (page 9) a nd off (pag e 9). Menu –ope ns the on-screen menus (page 23).
21 Using the remote control The r emote uses two (2) pr ovided AAA batteries. Th ey ar e easily install ed by slidi ng the c over of f the re mote’s ba ck, ali gning th e + and - ends of the batteries , sliding t hem into pla ce, and th en repl acing the cover .
22 Optimizi ng video ima g es After the video dev ice is con nected pr operly an d the image is on the screen, you can optimize the image using the onscreen menus. For general informa- tion on using the menus, s ee page 23. • Change the Aspect ra tio.
23 Using the menus T o op en the m enus, p ress the me nu butt on on the keyp ad or remo te. (T he menus a utomatically close after 60 seconds if no buttons a re pr essed.) The Main menu appears. Use the arrow buttons to move up and down to high - light t he desired submenu, t hen press the Select butto n.
24 Picture menu T o adju st the followi ng five set tings, high light th e setting, pr ess Selec t , use the up an d down arr ows to adjust the val ues, then pr ess select t o confirm the chan ges. All men u defaults a re liste d in a tab le startin g on page 38.
25 16:9 : the default is 16 :9 , whic h pre serves t he 16:9 aspect r atio an d is designed t o be used with cont ent that is Enhanced for W idescreen TVs. 4:3 : resiz es the imag e from its orig inal version to fit a standar d 4:3 aspect ratio scr een.
26 Presets : This allows you to customiz e settings and save the settings to be rest ored l ater . T o restor e the factory d efault setting s, choose Fac tory Reset in the Setting s>S ervice me nu. T o set a preset for the current sour ce, adjust the image, select Sav e Settin gs in the Presets menu, then c hoose Save User 1, 2, or 3.
27 Advanced settings The following 4 options ar e for computer or HDTV sources onl y . Phase : adjusts the phase of the video signal’s d igital conversion . Tr a c k i n g : adjusts t he frequenc y of the video signal’s digit al conversion. Horizont al/V er tical P ositio n : adjust s the position of the sour ce.
28 Color Spac e : This option applie s to computer an d HDTV sources (i t won’t appear in the m enu for video s ourc es). It allows you to s elect a co lor sp ace that ha s been specific ally tuned for the vide o input. When Auto is sel ected, the pr ojector a utomatica lly determin es the stan dard.
29 Settings menu Sources : allows you to assi gn a particular in put to a specific sourc e key on the remote an d enables or disables Au tosource. When Au tosource is not checked, th e projecto r defaults to the last -used source . If no source is fou nd, a blank s creen di splays.
30 Tr a n s l u c e n t O S D : makes the menus tran slucent . This prevents the image fr om bei ng compl etely cover ed by t he menus while you ar e making im age adju stments. Chime : turn this on to hear a sound whe n the Po w e r bu tton is presse d.
31 Ser vice : to use these featur es, high light them and pr ess Select . Fa ct o r y R e se t : r estor es all set tings (except Lamp Hou rs) to their default after di splaying a confirmation dialog b ox. 32 Replacing the pr ojection lamp The lamp hour timer in the About menu counts the number of hours the lamp has been in use. T wenty hour s before t he lamp life expir es, the mes- sage “Change lamp” appears on the screen at startup. If the maximum lamp time is exceed ed, the lamp wi ll not light.
33 W ARNINGS : • T o avoid burns, allow the pr ojector to cool for at least 60 minutes be fore you r eplace the lamp . • Do not drop t he lamp mo dule. The gla ss may sha tter and c ause injury . • Do not touch the glass lamp screen. Finger prints can obscure projection sharpnes s.
