14 2. Hardware Inst allation 1. Unpack the print server package and verify that all the items listed in the s ection 1.2 are provided. 2. Connect the print server to the pr inter you want to share on the network. 3. Connect the print server to your network by attached the networ k cable to the UTP port of the print server.
15 3. Windows Peer-to-Peer Network.
16 3.1 System Architecture Print server supports Window s Peer-to-Peer network printing mode, whi ch is suitab le for most medi um an d smal l network environments. Th rough quick and simple installation procedure , user s ca n immediately enjoy the convenience of network printing.
17 2. Client Instal lation and Configurat ion (refer to section 3 for more detailed information). Client users m ust install Windows PTPP driver (Peer- to-Peer Printing) for network pri nting.
18 3.2 Administrator Installation an d Setup The Administrator Installati on can be perform ed on Windows 95/98SE/Me/NT/2000/ XP/2003 wit h the same user interface. Before the inst allation, please verify that your network protocol is inst alled on your PC (TCP/IP, IPX and/or NetBEUI).
19 3. The “Prin t Server Ut ilities ” window wi ll be displayed. Click “Next ”. 4. Click “Next” to insta ll the utilities in the default fold er or clic k “Chan ge” to specify the destination folder where you would like to install the utilities.
20 5. Select the components you want to install. It is highly recommended to inst all all provided components . Click “Next” to continue..
21 6. The system will star t to install the utilities automatically. 7. You have completed th e installation phase and prepare to con figure the P rint Server. Th e “Choo se Print Server” will list all Pr int Server s within the network. Select the Print Server you w ould like to configure and click “Next”.
22 NOTE 1: If this is the firs t tim e you configure the Print Server, the “Print Server Name” is the last 6-digit of MAC ID with prefix “PS”. Pleas e check the MAC ID on the print server. NOTE 2: The list can only disp lay the d evices from the same manufacturer.
23 9. Specify the IP Address for the Print Server manually or click “Next” to ke ep default IP Address, i.e. 192.168.2.2..
24 10. The configuration summa ry is displayed in t he window. Now, you have comple ted the Print Server s etup. Click “Finish” and your system will add network port of the Print Server to your PC au tomatically . 11. The Administrator Installa ti on procedure is total ly completed.
25 The Administrator Installati on Program have executed the installa tion proced ure that performs th e followin g tasks: Install all utilities and drivers to the administrator’s PC.
26 3.3 Administrator Utilities After Administrator Insta llation is completed, there will be f our utilit ies in pri nt server ’s Program folder. Network Ports Quick Setup – Add the net work ports of pr int servers within the network t o your PC.
27 3.4 Client In stallation and Setup The Client Installation can be performed on Windows 95/98SE/Me/NT/2000/XP/2003 with the same user interface. Before the installati on proced ure, please confirm that your PC has co nnected to th e networ k and installed at least one network prot ocol.
28 3. The “Prin t Server Ut ilities ” window wi ll be displayed. Click “Next ”. 4. Click “Next” to insta ll the utilities in the default fold er or clic k “Chan ge” to specify the destination folder where you would like to install the utilities.
29 5. The system will star t to install the utilities automatically..
30 6. Now, the in stallation procedure is completed, you are ready to set up the client’s c omputer. All network ports of the Print Server s detected on the network will be added to your PC automatica lly, click “Continue”.
31 After the installation, you have completed the following tasks: Install all utilities and driv ers to the client’s PC. Add all the print server’s network ports of the network to the client’s PC. You can then perfor m the Windows’ sta ndard “Add Printer” procedure t o add network printers to your PC .
32 3.5 Client Utilities After C lient Installatio n is completed, there will be three to ols in print se rver’s Progr am fold er. Networ k Ports Qu ick Setu p Remote Ports Uninstall Network Driver The Uninstall Netwo rk Driver will assist you in removing all installed client software.
33 During the client’s installation procedur e, the system will automatic ally search f o r all print servers on the network, and add the m into the printer ports of the client’s computer (see below). If you have just installed an other new print server in the network, you must run thi s prog ram first.
34 Please be awa re that Networ k Ports Quick Setup Utility can only detect and con figure al l print se rver s on the same network, it c annot search an d configure print servers on other subnets across networ k segments. You must use Remote Ports Utilit y describe d in the next section to manage rem ote (across network se gments) print servers .
35 Step1. Run Remote Ports Utility. Clicks “Add” to add a remote print port. Step2. Enter print serve r’s name, IP address, s elect used ports, and enter LP R queue name of each port. Click “Ok”. Step3. The new re mote print port is displa yed as follow s.

37 3.6 Windows Add Printer Procedure After adding a “Network Port ” of the print server to your PC by Administra tor or Client Insta llation Progra m, you can follow the proc edur e des cribed below to add printer to the Windows.
38 Step4. S elect “Local pr inter attach ed to this computer ” and m ake sure that “Aut omatical ly detect and install my Plug and Play printer” is not selected.
39 Step6. Select a suitable printer manufacturer and the printer model and clic k “N ext”. If your printer is not in the list, click “Have D isk…” to install the driver of the printer. Af ter installation, the printer model will be added to the list.
40 Step8. Choose to print the test pa ge or not . It is recommended to print a test page. C lick “Nex t”. Step9. You have adde d the printer to the PC successf ully. The inf o rmation of the print er is displayed in the wind ows. Click “Finish”.
41 4. Windows NT/2000/2003 Network.
42 4.1 System Architecture In Windows network environm ent, other than the Peer - to-Peer network printing arch itecture described in the previou s chapter, we also o ffer the Serve r-Based Prin ting architecture for Windows NT/2 000/2003 server.
43 4.2 Windows NT/2000/2003 Server Installation and Setup Please follow the proced ures descri bed below for installation and const ruct a pe er-to-peer connection (PTPP) between Windows NT/2000/2003 Server and Print Server.

45 4.3 User Installation and Setup After serv er side’s installati on is completed, client side will be able to find the serv er’s shared printer in Network Neighborhood.

47 5.1 System Architecture We implement NetWare prin ter shar ing functi onality into the p rint server its elf, thus allowing one o r more printers attached by a print se rver to be connected to th e network. We have develope d the print server to support NetWare p rint server.
48 Printing perf ormance is enhanced . Relieve NetWare file s erver’s burden. Relieve the need of a worksta tion running the remote printer utility. Improve produc tivity by locating the prin ter near the workgroup. Each print server should l og into a NetWare server before servicing t he print jobs .
49 5.2 NetWare 3.x/4.x/5.x Inst allation & Setup Once your print server is co nnected to your Ethernet network, you can set it up fo r use with your networking software. 5.2.1 Installation Using PCONSOLE 5.2.1.1 Configuring as Print Server Mode 1.

53 6. UNIX System Network.
54 6.1 Introduction The print ser ver is avail abl e for TCP/IP printing by Unix LPD (Line Printer Da e mon) protocol. The LPD protocol originated with Unix release is based on the BSD version of Unix and supported under most ve rsions of Unix.
55 6.2 Enable Print Server’s TCP /IP Support The default conf iguration of the print server is with TCP/IP support enabled. An yway, you can configure the print ser ver to enable TCP/IP support using th e configuration program .
56 6.3 Setup Print Server’s IP Address The print server must have a unique IP address in order to be recognized by the networ k. You can set up the IP addr ess on the various Unix systems using any one of the following m ethod s: 1. DHCP (Dynamic Host Conf iguration Protocol) 2.

60 6.5 Configure Remo te L PD Printing on the Host The procedure you use to co nfigure your Uni x host(s) to allow printing to your networ k remote prin t server varies between different var ieties of Unix. The procedure below can be us ed for Unix variants that are related to B SD Unix, such as SunOS or Linux.

63 7. Configuration Utility.
64 7.1 Introduction This chap ter intro duces print s erver’s sys tem configuration utility in Wind ows environment. This utility is automatic ally installed du ring Windows Administrator Utility installat ion procedure - refer to section 3.2 a nd 3.
65 SNMP Configuration : SN MP Information Configuration. SMB : Configure the SMB Group Nam e. System Configuration : Pr int Server Network Ability Setting and Firmware Upgrade. Setup Wizard : Guide You Through All the Settings. Report : List the Status of All Available Print Servers on the Network.
66 7.2 Search for A ll Available Print Ser ver Every time when you run prin t server’s configuration utility, click the “Search” icon on the tool bar. The configuration utility will dela y for several se conds becau se the utility i s using system’s availab le network pr otocols to search for all prin t servers o n the network.
67 7.3 Status of Print Server Click “Status” icon on the too l bar, the sta tus of the curr ent sele cted print se rv er will be showed on the right side of the window.

69 7.4 Setup the Print Server Click “Setup” icon on the tool bar, the setup items of the current selected print server will be showed on the right side of the window. Double click one of the icon s to set up the selected print server. A screen will po p up to verif y “User Name” and “Password” of the print se rver.

71 7.5 Genera l Configuration Double Click “General” icon and the Gene ral configuration window will pop-up. You can see basic print server information in this pag e. You also can c onfigure t he “Server Na me”, “User Na me” and “Password” here.
72 7.6 TCP/IP Configuration Double Click “TCP/IP” icon and the TCP/IP configuration window will pop-up. You can configure the print se rver to autom a tically get IP from DHCP server or m a nually specify static IP. The print server also has a bui lt-in DHCP server.
73 Click the “IP” bu tton to en ter the IP setting page. If you need the print serv er to automaticall y get an IP f rom DHCP server, select “Auto IP”. You also can select “Static IP” to manually assign “IP Address”, “Subnet Mask” and “Gateway” for the print server.
74 7.7 Netware Print Server Configuration Double Click “NetW are” icon and the NetWare configuration window will pop-up. This print server supports NetWare Bindery Printing method. The print server pe riodically polls the NetWare server printer queue s for printi ng jobs.
75 7.8 AppleTalk Configuration Double Click “AppleTalk” icon and the AppleTalk configuration window will pop-up. AppleTalk is a data communica tion protocol of ten used by Macintoshes. The print server can use these param eters to join the Ap pleTalk netwo rk and share the printer to other AppleTalk workstations.
76 7.9 SNMP Co nfigur ation Double Click “SNMP” icon and the SNMP configuration window will pop up. Contact: You ca n enter the print server administrator’s contact information here. This information will b e displayed in the SNMP ma nagement tool.
77 7.10 SMB Configuration SMB Group Name , the name of SMB group that this print server belongs to. All PC should join the same group befo re they can use thi s pr int server by SMB protocol.
78 7.11 System Configuration Double Click “System” icon a nd the System configuration window will pop-up. In the System configurati on page, you can select to enable/disable eac h printin g or management pr otocol, upgrade the new f irmwar e for this pri nt serve r, and load factory defaults to the pr int server.
79 7.12 Wizard Click “Wiz ard” icon on t he tool bar, the setup wizard item of the current se lected print server will be showed on the right side of the window. Double click the “Print S erver Setup Wizard” the setup wizard will guide you throug h all the setup process.
80 Step 1: Set up the name of this print server. Step 2: Select to enable re quired print ing protocol. Please refer to section 7.11 for det ail information.

85 8.1 Introduction Print server can be configur ed and managed on the Web. Through Local Area Networ k, or even Internet, administrator can easily co nfigure and mana ge print server’s vari ous main func tions in brow sers.
86 8.2 Login You may use any Web Browse r to review the status or configure the settings of the pr int server. Afte r entering the IP address of the pr int server, a login page display. You have to ente r correct “Use r Name” and “P assword ” before going to the Web Ma nagement pages.

94 8.4 Setup Wizard 8.4.1 Sy stem You can change the print se rver name and passw ord of the print s erver from here. Print Server Name , the name of the print se rver. You can use thi s name to iden tify the prin t serve r whe n yo u are searching for the p rint server by the admi nistra tion and client utilities.
95 8.4.1.1 Advanced Settings You can enable/disable the pr inting protoc ols from the screen. To enable th e function, please selec t “Enable”; to disable the function, pl ease select “Disable”.
96 8.4.2 TCP/IP You can configure the print se rver to autom a tically get IP from DHCP server or m a nually specify static IP. The print server also has a bu ilt-in DHCP server.

104 9. IPP Printing.
105 9.1 Introduction IPP (Internet Printing Prot ocol) Printing provides a convenient way of re mote printing service b y TCP/IP. The print server can support IPP printing by default. It is needless to do any se tting. An y PC that can support IPP printing, for example Windows 2000/XP, can dir ectly uses the print server by IP.
106 9.2 System Setup 9.2.1 Print Server Side It is needless to do any sett ing on the print serv er side. Make sure the print server ha s correct IP settings. If you want to share the printers to In ternet users , you have to set a real IP to the print server.
107 Step3. The “Add Printer Wizard” is displayed. Click “Nex t”. Step4. Sele ct “A network printer, o r a printer attache d to another co mputer”.
108 Step5. Select “Connect to a printer on th e Internet or on a home or office network” and enter the URL of print server. The URL format is “http:/ /IP:631/Po rt Name”. The I P should be the print server’s IP. The number 631 i s IPP standard port n umber.
109 Step6. Select a suitable printer manufacturer and the printer model and clic k “N ext”. If your printer is not in the list, click “Have D isk…” to install the driver of the printer. Af ter installation, the printer model will be added to the list.
110 Step8. You have added th e network printer to the PC successf ully. The inf o rmation of the print er is displayed in the wind ows. Click “Finish”.
111 10. Windows XP SP2 Setup In Windows XP SP2, XP SP2’s firewall wo uld block the unknown communications . Th is prin t server ha s allowe d the communicati ons data pa ssed through the XP SP2’s firewall.
112 Step3. Select “Advanced ” tab and clic k “Settings…”..
113 Step4. Se lect “Excepti ons” tab and click “Add Program…”..
114 Step5. Click “Browse” to add a new program. Step6. Open the “NPUt il” file from “C:Program FilesPrintServe r Utiliti es” (wher e C: is the system drive).
115 Step7. A new program “Network Ports Quick Setup” is displayed in the list, cli ck “Ok”..
