6 – English SAFETY INSTR UCTIONS Chain brake and front hand guar d Y our chain saw is equipped with a chain br ake that is designed to stop the chain immediately if you get a kic kback. The chain brak e reduces the risk of accidents, but only y ou can pre vent them.

English – 9 SAFETY INSTR UCTIONS Grasp the chain sa w firmly , wrapping your fingers and thumbs around the handles. Apply full throttle and activate the chain br ake b y tilting your left wrist forw ard onto the front hand guard. Do not let go of the front handle.
10 – English SAFETY INSTR UCTIONS If the muffler on y our machine is fitted with a spark arrestor mesh this must be cleaned regularly . A bloc ked mesh will cause the engine to ov erheat and may lead to serious damage. Never use a m uffler if the spark arrestor mesh is missing or defective.
English – 11 SAFETY INSTR UCTIONS Some terms that describe the bar and chain When the cutting equipment supplied with your sa w becomes worn or damaged you must replace it with one of the bars and chains recommended by us . See the T echnical data section.
12 – English SAFETY INSTR UCTIONS When you sharpen a cutting tooth there are five important f actors to remember . 1 Filing angle 2 Cutting angle 3 File position 4 Round file diameter 5 File depth It is very difficult to shar pen a chain correctly without the right equipment.
English – 13 SAFETY INSTR UCTIONS • W e recommend that you use our r aker gauge to achie ve the correct clearance and be vel on the rak er lip . Setting the raker clearance • Bef ore setting the rak er clearance the cutting teeth should be newly sharpened.
14 – English SAFETY INSTR UCTIONS Filling with chain oil • All our chain saws ha ve an automatic chain lubrication system. On some models the oil flow is also adjustab le. • The sizes of the chain oil tank and fuel tank ha v e been chosen so that the engine will run out of fuel before running out of oil.
English – 15 SAFETY INSTR UCTIONS W e recommend you compare the e xisting chain with a new chain to decide how badly the e xisting chain is wor n. When the length of the cutting teeth has worn down to only 4 mm the chain must be replaced.
16 – English SAFETY INSTR UCTIONS Kickbac k only occurs if the kickback z one of the bar touches an object. General rules 1 If you understand what kic kback is and how it happens then you can reduce or eliminate the element of surprise. By being prepared you reduce the risk.
English – 17 SAFETY INSTR UCTIONS General safety precautions • Chain saws are designed solely f or cutting wood. The only accessories you ma y use with this engine unit are the combinations of bars and chains we recommend in the T echnical data section.
18 – English SAFETY INSTR UCTIONS Fuel safety • Ne ver refuel the machine while the engine is running. • Make sure there is plenty of v entilation when refuelling or mixing fuel (gasoline and 2-stroke oil). • Mov e the machine at least 3 m from the refuelling point bef ore star ting it.
English – 19 SAFETY INSTR UCTIONS • T ake the utmost care when cutting through branches or logs that are in tension. A log or branch that is in tension can suddenly spring back into its natural position bef ore or after you cut it.
20 – English SAFETY INSTR UCTIONS Cut all the wa y through the log from above . A v oid letting the chain touch the ground as y ou finish the cut. Maintain full throttle but be prepared f or what might happen. If it is possible (can y ou tur n the log?) stop cutting about 2/3 of the wa y through the log.
English – 21 SAFETY INSTR UCTIONS • Arrangement of branches • W eight of snow Y ou ma y find you are f orced to let the tree fall in its natur al direction because it is impossible or dangerous to try to make it f all in the direction you first intended.
22 – English SAFETY INSTR UCTIONS All control ov er the felling direction is lost if the f elling hinge is too narrow or non-e xistent, or if the directional cuts and felling cut are badly placed. When the f elling cut and directional cut are complete the tree should star t to f all by itself or with the aid of a f elling wedge or breaking bar .

24 – English ASSEMBL Y Fitting the bar and chain Check that the chain br ake is in disengaged position b y moving the front hand guard to wards the front handle . Remov e the bar nuts and remove the clutch co v er (chain brak e). T ake off the transportation r ing (A).
English – 25 FUEL HANDLING Fuel CA UTION! The machine is equipped with a two-strok e engine and must alwa ys been run using a mixture of gasoline and two-strok e engine oil. It is impor tant to accurately measure the amount of oil to be mix ed to ensure that the correct mixture is obtained.
26 – English FUEL HANDLING Fuelling Clean the area around the fuel cap . Clean the fuel and chain oil tanks regularly . The fuel filter must be replaced at least once a year . Contamination in the tanks causes malfunction. Make sure the fuel is w ell mix ed by shaking the container bef ore refuelling.
English – 27 ST AR TING AND ST OPPING Star ting and stopping Cold engine Starting: The chain brak e should be activ ated when star ting the chain saw . Activate the chain brak e by pushing the front hand guard f orwards . Ignition; choke: Set the choke control in the chok e position.
28 – English MAINTENANCE Carb urettor Y our Jonsered product has been designed and manuf actured to speci fi cations that reduce harmful emissions. After your unit has been run 8-10 tanks of fuel the engine has broken in.
English – 29 MAINTENANCE “ whistles “ the setting is too lean. If there is too much e xhaust gas at the same time as the machine “ 4-cycles ” much, the setting is too rich.
30 – English MAINTENANCE Fitting the starter • To fi t the star ter , fi rst pull out the star ter cord and place the star ter in position against the crankcase. Then slowly release the star ter cord so that the pulley engages with the pawls . • Fit and tighten the screws that hold the starter .
English – 31 MAINTENANCE Needle bearing lubrication The clutch drum is fi tted with one of the follo wing drive sprock ets: • A Spur sprock et (the chain sprocket is welded on the drum) • B Rim sprock et (replaceable) Both versions ha ve a needle bearing on the drive shaft, which has to be greased regularly (once a week).
