4 – English CONTENTS Y ou will find the f ollowing labels on y our machine: EP A I EP A II The Emissions Compliance P er iod ref erred to on the Emission Compliance label indicates the number of operating hours f or which the engine has been shown to meet F ederal emissions requirements.

6 – English SAFETY INSTR UCTIONS Chain brake and front hand guar d Y our chain saw is equipped with a chain br ake that is designed to stop the chain immediately if you get a kic kback. The chain brak e reduces the risk of accidents, but only y ou can pre vent them.

English – 9 SAFETY INSTR UCTIONS Checking the inertia brake release Hold the chain saw o v er a stump or other firm object. Let go of the front handle so that the bar drops tow ards the stump as the chain saw rotates around the rear handle . When the bar hits the stump the brake should be applied.
10 – English SAFETY INSTR UCTIONS Vibration damping system Regularly check the vibration damping units f or cracks or def ormation. Make sure the vibr ation damping units are securely attached to the engine unit and handle unit. Stop switc h Star t the engine and make sure the engine stops when y ou mov e the stop switch to the stop setting.
English – 11 SAFETY INSTR UCTIONS Cutting equipment designed to minimise kickbac k The only wa y to avoid kic kback is to make sure that the kickbac k zone of the bar nev er touches anything. By using cutting equipment with ”built-in” kickbac k reduction and keeping the chain sharp and well-maintained you can reduce the eff ects of kickbac k.

English – 13 SAFETY INSTR UCTIONS • Alwa ys file cutting teeth from the inside face. Reduce the pressure on the return stroke. File all the teeth on one side first, then turn the chain saw ov er and file the teeth on the other side. • File all the teeth to the same length.
14 – English SAFETY INSTR UCTIONS • Use the combination spanner to tighten the bar nuts while lifting the tip of the bar at the same time. Check that you can pull the chain round freely by hand and that it does not sag from the underside of the bar .
English – 15 SAFETY INSTR UCTIONS Needle bearing lubrication The clutch drum is fitted with one of the follo wing drive sprock ets: A Spur sprock et (the chain sprocket is welded on the drum) B Rim sprock et (replaceable) Both versions ha ve a needle bearing on the drive shaft, which has to be greased regularly (once a week).
16 – English SAFETY INSTR UCTIONS How to a void kic kback What is kickbac k? The word kic kback is used to describe the sudden reaction that causes the chain saw and bar to jump off an object when the upper quadrant of the tip of the bar , known as the kic kback zone , touches an object.

English – 19 SAFETY INSTR UCTIONS • Make sure y ou can move and stand saf ely . Check the area around you f or possible obstacles (roots, roc ks, br anches, ditches, etc.) in case y ou hav e to move suddenly . T ake great care when working on sloping ground.
20 – English SAFETY INSTR UCTIONS In most cases you can a void these problems b y cutting in two stages; from the top and from the bottom. Y ou need to suppor t the object so that it will not trap the chain or split during cutting.
English – 21 SAFETY INSTR UCTIONS T ree felling technique Safe distance The saf e distance between a tree that is to be f elled and any one else working nearby is at least 21/2 tree lengths . Make sure that no-one else is in this ”risk zone” before or during felling.
22 – English SAFETY INSTR UCTIONS The directional cuts should run 1/4 of the diameter through the trunk and the angle between the top cut and bottom cut should be 45 ° . The line where the two cuts meet is called the directional cut line. This line should be perf ectly horizontal and at right angles (90 ° ) to the chosen f elling direction.

26 – English FUEL HANDLING Fuel CA UTION! The machine is equipped with a two-strok e engine and must alwa ys been run using a mixture of gasoline and two-strok e engine oil. It is impor tant to accurately measure the amount of oil to be mix ed to ensure that the correct mixture is obtained.
English – 27 FUEL HANDLING Chain oil • The chain lubrication system is automatic and we recommend the use of special oil (chain oil) with good adhesion characteristics. • In countries where no special chain oil is av ailable , EP90 transmission oil can be used.
28 – English ST AR TING AND ST OPPING Star ting and stopping Cold engine Starting: The chain brak e should be activ ated when star ting the chain saw . Activate the chain brak e by pushing the front hand guard f orwards . Ignition; choke: Set the choke control in the chok e position.

30 – English MAINTENANCE Carb urettor Y our Jonsered product has been designed and manuf actured to speci fi cations that reduce harmful emissions. After your unit has been run 8-10 tanks of fuel the engine has broken in.
English – 31 MAINTENANCE until the engine runs smoothly . The high speed needle H is correctly set when the saw “ 4-cycles ” a little . If the machine “ whistles “ the setting is too lean. If there is too much e xhaust gas at the same time as the machine “ 4-cycles ” much, the setting is too rich.
32 – English MAINTENANCE Fitting the starter • To fi t the star ter , fi rst pull out the star ter cord and place the star ter in position against the crankcase. Then slowly release the star ter cord so that the pulley engages with the pawls . • Fit and tighten the screws that hold the starter .

34 – English MAINTENANCE Heated handles (CS 2156W , CS 2159W) On models with the model code W , both the front handle bar and the rear handle are equipped with electrical heating coils. These are supplied with electricity from a generator built into the chain saw .
English – 35 MAINTENANCE Below y ou will fi nd some g eneral maintenance instructions. Daily maintenance 1 Check the throttle trigger f or smooth operation. If any binding occurs, or if engine f ails to retur n to idle, the machine should be taken to y our dealer, bef or it is used again.
