2 Getting Star ted Important cautions Installation of the unit • Select a place which is le vel, dry and neither too hot nor too cold between 5°C and 35°C (41°F and 95°F). • Leav e sufficient distance between the unit and the TV . • Do not use the unit in a place subject to vibrations.
3 System outline This system consists of the center unit containing a D VD player , a radio, and a pre-amp, as well as the powered sub-woofer , the center speaker , and four satellite speaker units. It provides a fully functional D VD theater system by simply connecting to a TV set.

7 T o connect speakers Connect the satellite speakers and center speaker to the terminals on the po wered sub-woofer using the speaker cords supplied. Labels are attached to the speaker cords to indicate the speaker and terminal to which eac h is to be connected.

10 Connecting the power cord Before plugging the center unit and powered sub-woofer into an A C outlets, make sure that all connections ha ve been made. Plug the power cord into an AC outlet. The red ST ANDBY lamp on the center unit lights when the po wer cord is plugged in.

13 Principles of operation The system may be operated via the remote control or the buttons on the center unit, or via the menu on the scr een. 16 The basic operations for this system are as follows. T o turn the system power supply ON and OFF (standby) From the remote controls: Press AUDIO to turn power ON. The ST ANDBY lamp goes of f, and the current source name (or station frequency) appears on the display windo w .
17 Muting the sound Primary remote control only: Press MUTING to mute the sound through all speakers connected. “MUTING” appears on the display window and v olume turns off. T o restore the sound, press MUTING again so that “OFF” appears on the display .
18 Selecting the analog or digital input mode When you hav e connected some components such as MD recorder , the DBS tuner and so on, using digital terminals (see page 9), you need to change the input mode for these components to the digital input. Y ou can choose digital sound from the following sources: “MD”, “DBS”, “ A UX”.
19 When a decode mode which differs from the type of disc being played is selected Insert a D VD disc in the center unit to display the type of audio being played in the Decode mode indicator in the display window . Audio cannot be played if a decode mode which differs from the displayed mode is selected.

50 DVD MENU Settings Select monitor type Most movie DVD discs are recorded for wide-screen TVs with a height/width ratio of 16:9. It is possible to optimize playback of these wide-screen TV images for viewing on a regular TV with a height/width ratio of 4:3.

53 How to handle discs When handling a disc, do not touch the surface of the disc. Since discs are made of plastic, they are easily dama ged. If a disc gets dirty , dusty , scra tched or warped, the imagesand sound will not be picked up correctly , and such a discmay cause the player to malfunction.
54 The COMPU LINK remote control system allows you to operate JVC audio components through the remote sensor on the center unit. T o use this remote control system, you need to connect JVC audio components through the COMPU LINK-3 (SYNCHR O) jacks (see below) in addition to the connections using cables with RCA pin plugs (see pages 8 and 9).
55 Operating JVC’ s Audio/V ideo Components Y ou can operate JVC’ s audio and video components with this system’ s remote control, since control signals for JVC components ar e preset in the remote control.
