12 sec t ion Prepara tion Before U se Basic O perat ion The following instructions explain how to connect t he instrument to the power outlet, turn on the pow er , adjust the volume to a c omfort able lev el, and begin playing the piano.
13 Playi ng t he Pia no Selec t ing Sounds The ES 1 00 digit al piano features 1 9 dierent instrument sounds, which can be selec ted in one of two ways. By default the ‘C oncert Grand ’ sound will be selec t ed automa tically when the instrument is turned on.
sec t ion 14 Playi ng t he Pia no Selec ting Sounds Select ing a sound: Method 2 Press and hold the SOU N D bu tton, th en press one of the lowes t eight white keys to selec ted th e desired instrum ent sound.
sec t ion 15 Playi ng t he Pia no The Dual Mode func tion allows two sounds to be la yered together , creating a more complex sound. For example, a piano sound lay ered with strings, or an elec tric piano combined with a harpsichord, etc.
sec t ion 16 Playi ng t he Pia no The Split Mode func tion divides the ke yboard into two sections, allowing each sec tion to be play ed with a dierent sound. For example, a bass sound in the lo wer section, and a piano sound in the upper sec tion.
sec t ion 17 Playi ng t he Pia no Met ronome / D rum R hy t h m s The Metronome func tion provides a steady beat t o aid practicing the piano at a consistent tempo. The time signature, v olume, and tempo of the metronome can be free ly adjusted. T urning the metronome on/ o Press and hold the LESSO N but ton, then press the PIA N O but ton.

sec t ion 29 Settings 3. V oicing The V oicing setting allows the tonal character of the ES 1 00 digit al piano to be set to one of four dierent types.
sec t ion 30 Settings K eyboard and Sound Settings 4. F all -b ack N oise When playing an acoustic piano, it is ofte n possible to hear the faint sound of the k eyboard action returning (i.e. ‘falling back ’) to the neutral position af ter a key is released.

Da mper Noi se When the damper pedal of an acoustic piano is pressed and released, it is of ten possible to hear the sound of the damper head touching and releasing the strings. The ES 1 00 digit al piano reproduces this sound, with the Damper Noise setting allowing the volume of this sound to be adjusted.

35 Settings 9. Tu n i n g The T uning setting allows the overall pit ch of the ES 1 00 digi tal piano to be raise d and lowered in 0.5 Hz steps, and may therefore pro ve useful wh en pla ying with other instruments.

T emperamen t The T emperament setting allows the tuning system us ed by the ES 1 00 digital piano to be change d from the modern ‘Equal T emperament ’ standard to one of the various temperaments popularised during the Renaissance and Baroque periods.

sec t ion 38 Settings MI DI Set t ings The term MIDI is an acron ym for Musical Instrument Digita l Inter face, an int ernational standard for connec ting musical instruments, computers, and other device s t o allow the exchange of performance data.

41 Settings 2. MIDI Ch an nel ( transmit /receiv e ) The MIDI Channel setting allows the transmit/receiv e channel to be specied . The selec ted channel will function as b oth the transmit and receive channel ( separate transmit/receive channels cannot be specied).
sec t ion 42 Settings 3. Loca l C on tr ol The Local Cont rol setting determines whether the instrum ent will play an internal sound when the k eys are pressed. This set ting is useful when using the ES 1 00 digital piano to control an ex ternal MIDI device.

Multi-timbral Mo de The Multi-timbral mode setting determines whether or not the ES 1 00 digit al piano is able to receiv e MIDI information on more than one MIDI channel simultaneously . This allows the instrum ent to play back multi- track , multi-timbral performance data sent from an ex ternal MIDI device.
