1 UNP ACKING AND CHECKING EQUIPMENT Note: The following unpacking instructions are for use by your KENWOOD dealer , an authorized KENWOOD service facility , or the factory . Carefully unpack the transceiver . We recommend that you identify the items listed in the following table before discarding the packing material.
2 PREP ARA TION 1 Match the four grooves of the battery pack with the corresponding guides on the back of the transceiver . 2 Slide the battery pack along the back of the transceiver until the release latch on the base of the transceiver locks.
3 Screw the antenna into the connector on the top of the transceiver by holding the antenna at its base and turning it clockwise until secure. ■ Installing the Belt Clip If necessary , attach the belt clip using the two supplied 3 x 6 mm screws.
4 If you are not using the optional KMC-25 speaker/ microphone, install the cap over the universal connector using the supplied 4 x 6 mm screw . Note: T o keep the transceiver water resistant, you must cover the universal connector with either the cap or the speaker/ microphone connector.

9 PROGRAMMABLE AUXILIAR Y FUNCTIONS The toggle switch, PF keys, and Speaker/ Microphone keys can be programmed with the auxiliary functions listed below: e m a N n o i t c n u F e l g g o T h c t i w .
10 1 This function can be selected only when the scrambler board has not been installed. 2 This function can be selected only when the ANI board has been installed.
11 • Channel Up: Press to increase the channel by 1 step. Press and hold to continuously scroll through the channels. Unprogrammed channels will be skipped.
12 • Lamp: Press to turn the display backlight ON. The backlight will remain ON for 5 seconds. Pressing any key other than Lamp will reset the lamp timer , causing it to remain ON for 5 seconds from the time you pressed the new key . Pressing the Lamp key while the lamp is ON will turn the lamp OFF .
13 • Scan: Press to start the scan sequence. Press again to stop scanning. See “SCANNING” on page 16. • Scrambler: Press to turn the scrambler ON. Press again to turn it OFF . Press and hold for 2 seconds to enter Scrambler Code Select mode. See “V oice Scrambler” on page 25.
14 OPERA TING BASICS ■ Switching Power ON/OFF T urn the Power switch/ V olume control clockwise to switch the transceiver ON. T urn the Power switch/ V olume control counter- clockwise to switch the transceiver OFF . ■ Adjusting the V olume Rotate the Power switch/ V olume control to adjust the volume.
15 ■ Making a Call 1 Select your desired channel {page 14}. 2 Use the key programmed as Monitor or Squelch OFF to determine whether or not the current channel is being used. • If the channel is busy , wait until it becomes free. 3 Press and hold the PTT switch, then speak into the microphone in your normal voice.
16 SCANNING If the Scan function is programmed, channels can be scanned by pressing the key programmed as Scan . Scan will monitor all channels that are added to the scan sequence. Channels added to the scan sequence have an “A” indicator on the display when the channel is selected.
17 ■ Priority Scan A priority channel must be programmed in order for Priority Scan to operate. A “P” appears on the display when the priority channel is selected. During Scan, the transceiver automatically reverts to the priority channel when a signal is received on it, even if a signal is being received on your current channel.
18 ■ Revert Channel The revert channel is the channel your transceiver changes to when you press the PTT switch to transmit during Scan. Y our dealer can program the type of revert channel to be use.
19 SIGNALLING ■ 2-T one Signalling Note: ◆ This transceiver is only capable of decoding 2-T one signals. It cannot encode a 2-T one signal. ◆ A 2-T one call will be cancelled if you change the channel or turn Scan ON. 2-T one Signalling is either activated or deactivated by your dealer .
20 ■ DTMF Signalling Note: A DTMF call will be cancelled if you change the channel or turn Scan ON. DTMF Signalling is either activated or deactivated by your dealer . Using this function, you will only hear calls that are intended for you to hear .
21 ■ Dead Beat Disable (DBD) Depending on how your dealer programs your transceiver , when you receive a call containing a DBD code you may not be able to transmit. DBD is cancelled when you receive a call with a DBD reset code. ■ PTT ID PTT ID is either activated or deactivated by your dealer .
22 QUIET T ALK (QT) AND DIGIT AL QUIET T ALK (DQT) QT and DQT tones are encoded tones that help to relieve you of unwanted calls. Calls that are received on your channel that do not have the proper tone will not be heard. Y ou will only hear calls that are received if they carry the tones that match those set up in your transceiver .
23 AUXILIARY FEA TURES ■ Key Lock Press the key programmed as Key Lock to activate the Key Lock function. All keys other than those listed below will not perform their operations.
24 ■ Time-out T imer (TOT) The T OT is used to automatically inhibit transmission after a specified time elapses. If the PTT switch is held down for longer than the programmed time, the transceiver will stop transmitting and a tone will sound. Release the PTT switch, then press it again to continue transmitting.
25 ■ Voice Scrambler Note: You must first install the optional voice scrambler board before you can use this feature. Y ou can use the V oice Scrambler feature to make your calls private. Y our calls will only be understood by other persons who are also using the V oice Scrambler feature.
26 AUDIBLE USER FEEDBACK TONES The transceiver emits various tones to indicate the transceiver’s operating status: • Power ON T one: Sounds when you turn the transceiver power ON. • Key Operation T one: Sounds when you activate a function by pressing a key .
