A-61514 Sept ember 2004 3 Prep aring document s for scanning • A batch of document s to be fed into the scanner must be arra nged so that the leading edges of all document s are aligned and centered under the automatic document feeder . This allows the feeder to introduce document s into the scanner one at a time.
4 A-61514 September 2004 Safety information • When placing the scanne r , make sure that the electrical power outlet is located within 1.52 metres (5 feet) of the scanner an d is easily accessible. CAUTION: The scanner and p ower supply must only be used indoors in a dry location.

NOTE: The actual performance of th e system depends on the scanni ng application, choice o f scanning parameters, and the host computer configuration.

This foam sheet must be removed before you can begin scanning. 1. Lift the scanner out of the box and pl ace it on a stable, level work surface that is cap able of supporting it.

12 A-61514 September 2004 Making connections Follow the instructions fo r inst alling the IEEE-1394 (FireWire) card and the Kodak Driver Soft ware before you plug the scanner into the host computer . IMPORT ANT : Y ou must install the sof tware on the host computer before you install the scanner .

16 A-61514 September 2004 Input and output trays The input and output trays snap into place. They also may be adjusted to fit diff erent document sizes. The input and ou tp ut trays also m ay be folded fla t up against the scanner to save sp ace when the scanner is not in use.
A-61514 Sept ember 2004 17 Adjusting the output tray The adjustable output tray has three possible positions. • Set the outp ut tray to the lowest position when you are scanning long documents. • Set the output tray to the middle position when yo u are scanning letter- or A4-size document s.
18 A-61514 September 2004 Using the Scanner S t arting and stopping scanning Scanning is controlled by software developed for your app lication. T o start and stop scanning, refer to th e documentation provided with yo ur software. Automatic feeding T o scan a batch of documents, follow th e gu idelines for size, type, quantity , etc.
A-61514 Sept ember 2004 19 Continuous feeding Continuous feeding allows you to plac e additional batches of documents in the feeder for “ infinite” feed ing (with oper ator assistance). • When only a few document s from one batch remain in the fe eder , place the next batch face down on to p of those documents.
20 A-61514 September 2004 Damaged document s Y ou c an scan tor n or fragile do cuments through th e automatic document feeder if they are placed in a protective plastic sleeve. 1. Place the damaged document into a protective sle e ve. 2. Position the sleeve face down , folded edge first, and centered in the ADF .
A-61514 Sept ember 2004 21 Maintenance Cleaning the scanner The scanner will collect du st and other deb ris during routine scanning. For optimal scanner perfor mance, follow the detailed cleaning ins.
22 A-61514 September 2004 Cleaning the sep arator module 1. Power down the scanner . 2. Remove any documents from the feed er area. 3. Lift up the scanner door release to unlatch the scanner door . 4. Pull up to open the scanner door . 5. Remove the separator module by pulling it down and lifting it of f.
A-61514 Sept ember 2004 23 7. Inspect the rollers. If the separator roller tires sh ow signs of wear or damage, replace the tires or the sep a rator module. 8. Insert the separator module and alig n the shaft ends. 9. Press until the sep arator module clicks into place.
24 A-61514 September 2004 3. Manually rotate and wipe the feed m odule rollers with a roller cleaning pad. 4. Inspect the feed module. If the feed module tires show signs of wear or damage, replace the tires or the feed module. 5. Remove any dust or debris from the tray area under the feed module and the front roller cover .
A-61514 Sept ember 2004 25 3. Wipe the upper and lower tran sport areas with a roller cleaning pa d. 4. Dry the transport area with a dry S taticide Wip e . 5. Push against the raised edge on the left sid e of the rear roller cover and pull the cover up and out to remove it.
26 A-61514 September 2004 Cleaning the p aper pat h 1. Remove the wrapping from the T ransport Cleaning Sheet. 2. Adjust the p aper feeder guides to fit the cle aning sheet. 3. Feed the cleaning sheet ( adhesive side up) through the scanner in portrait orientation until all residue is removed from the drive rol lers.
A-61514 Sept ember 2004 27 Calibrating the scanner Calibration optimizes the op tical system in your scanner in order to achieve the best overall quality of scanned im age s. Frequent calibration is not needed or recommended. Calibr ation instruct ions can be found in the Image Processing Guide for Kodak i100 Seri es Scanners.

A-61514 Sept ember 2004 29 Lamp s The sc anner has a la mp saver feat ure to prolong lamp life. The lamps shut off afte r five minutes of scanner idle time. Clearing document jams 1. Remove any documents from the feed er area. 2. Lift up the scanner door release to unlatch the scanner door .
30 A-61514 September 2004 System is not responding If the scanner and/or host compu ter are not responding, perform the following steps. 1. Power down the compute r . 2. Power down the scan ner . 3. Disconnect the IEEE-1394 (FireWire) cable from the IEEE- 1394 port on the back o f the scanner .
