6 19. Make sure the shaft lock is released before the s witch is turned on. 20. Be sure that the blade does not contact the turn base in the lowest position. 21. Hold the handle firmly . Be aware that the saw moves up or do wn slightly during start-up and stopping.
7 INST ALLA TION Bench mounting When the tool is shipped, the handle is lock ed in the lowered position by the stopper pin. Release the stopper pin b y lower- ing the handle slightly and pulling the stopper pin. This tool should be bolted with f our bolts to a lev el and stable surf ace using the bolt holes provided in the tool’ s base.
8 If the blade guard is especially dirty and vision through the guard is impaired, use the supplied sock et wrench to loosen the he x bolt holding the center cover . Loosen the hex bolt by turning it counterclockwise and raise the blade guard and center cov er .
9 Maintaining maximum cutting capacity This tool is fa ctor y adjusted to provide the maximum cutting capacity f or a 305 mm (12 ” ) saw blade . When installing a new b lade, alwa ys check the lo wer limit position of the blade and if necessary , adjust it as follo ws: First, unplug the tool.
10 Adjusting the miter angle Loosen the grip by turning counterclockwise. T ur n the turn base while pressing down the loc k lev er . When you hav e mov ed the grip to the position where the pointer points to the desired angle on the miter scale, securely tighten the grip clockwise .
11 Switch action CA UTION: • Bef ore plugging in the tool, always chec k to see that the s witch tr igger actuates properly and retur ns to the “ OFF ” position when released. • When not using the tool, remov e the lock-off button and store it in a secure place.
12 ASSEMBL Y CA UTION: • Alwa ys be sure that the tool is switched off and unplugged befo re carr ying out any work on the tool. Socket wrenc h storage The sock et wrench is stored as shown in the figure. When using the sock et wrench, pull it out of the wrench holder .
13 Press the shaft lock to loc k the spindle and use the socket wrench to loosen the he x bolt clockwise. Then remo ve the he x bolt, outer flange and blade. T o install the blade, mount it carefully onto the spindle , mak- ing sure that the direction of the arrow on the surf ace of the blade matches the direction of the arro w on the blade case.
14 Dust bag The use of the dust bag makes cutting operations clean and dust collection easy . T o attach the dust bag, fit it onto the dust nozzle. When the dust bag is about half full, remov e the dust bag from the tool and pull the f astener out.
15 CA UTION: • When perf or ming left be vel cuts, flip the f ence ov er to the left position as shown in the figure . Otherwise, it will contact the blade or a part of the tool, causing possible serious injur y to the operator . Sub-fence R (optional accessory) The sub-fe nce R can be installed on the r ight side of the guide f ence.
16 Horizontal vise (optional accessory) The horizontal vise can be installed in two positions on either the left or right side of the base. When perf or ming 15 ° or greater miter cuts , install the hor izontal vise on the side opposite the direction in which the turn base is to be tur ned.
17 OPERA TION CA UTION: • Bef ore use, be sure to release the handle from the lowered position b y pulling the stopper pin. • Make sure the b lade is not contacting the workpiece, etc. bef ore the switch is turned on. • Do not apply e xcessive pressure on the handle when cutting.
18 2. Slide (push) cutting (cutting wide workpieces) Loosen the knob counterclockwise so that the carriage can slide freely . Secure the workpiece with the vise. Pull the carriage toward y ou fully . Switch on the tool without the blade making an y contact and wait until the blade attains full speed.
19 CA UTION: • Alwa ys be sure that the blade will mo ve down to be vel direction during a bev el cut. Keep hands out of path of saw b lade. • During a bev el cut, it may create a condition whereb y the piece cut off will come to rest against the side of the blade .
20 There are two common types of crown moldings and one type of cov e moldings; 52/38 ° wall angle crown molding, 45 ° wall angle cro wn molding and 45 ° w all angle cove molding. See illustrations . There are crown and co ve molding joints which are made to fit “Inside” 90 ° corners ((1) and (2) in Fig.
21 Example: In the case of cutting 52/38 ° type crown molding f or position (1) in Fig. A: • Tilt and secure be vel angle setting to 33.9 ° LEFT . • Adjust and secure miter angle setting to 31.

25 Crown molding stoppers (optional accessories) allow easier cuts of crown molding without tilting the sa w blade . Install them on the base as shown in the figures. P osition crown molding with its W ALL CONT A CT EDGE against the guide f ence and its CEILING CONT A CT EDGE against the crown molding stoppers as sho wn in the figure.
26 8. W ood facing Use of wood f acing helps to assure splinter-free cuts in workpieces. Attach a wood f acing to the guide fence using the holes in the guide fe nce. See the figure concerning the dimensions for a sug- gested wood f acing. CA UTION: • Use straight wood of e ven thic kness as the wood f acing.
27 9. Cutting repetitive lengths When cutting se veral pieces of stoc k to the same length, ranging from 300 mm (11 - 3/4 ” ) to 470 mm (18 - 1/2 ” ), use of the set plate (optional accessor y) will f acilitate more efficient operation. Install the set plate on the holder (optional accessor y) as sho wn in the figure.
28 Carr y the tool b y holding both sides of the tool base as shown in the figure. If y ou remov e the holders, dust bag, etc., you can carry the tool more easily . 29 Make sure that the pointer points to 0 ° on the miter scale. If the pointer does not point to 0 ° , loosen the screw which secures the pointer and adjust the pointer so that it will point to 0 ° . 2. Bevel angle (1) 0 ° be vel angle Push the carriage toward the guide f ence and tighten the knob to secure the carriage.
30 Make sure that the tw o pointers on the ar m point to each 0 ° on the be vel scale on the arm holder . If they do not point to 0 ° , loosen the screws which secure the pointers and adjust them so that they will point to 0 ° . (2) 45 ° be vel angle Adjust the 45 ° be vel angle only after perf or ming 0 ° be vel angle adjustment.
31 After use • After use, wipe off chips and dust adhering to the tool with a cloth or the like . Keep the b lade guard clean according to the directions in the pre viously covered section titled “ Blade guard ” . Lubricate the sliding por tions with machine oil to pre vent rust.
