Make sure that the seat belt is neither stuck in the rear seat nor twisted, then remove the seat belt from the belt clip. Head Restraints Y our vehicle is equipped with head restraints on all outboard seats.
Black plate (20,1) Height ad justment T o raise a head restraint, pull it up to the desired po sition. T o lower the head rest raint, press the stop- catch release, then push the head restraint down. Adjust the head restraint so that the center is even with the top of the passen ger's ears.
Black plate (21,1) Seat Belt Precautions Seat belts help to d ecrease the possibility of severe injury during accidents and sudden stops. Mazda recommends that the driver and all passengers always wear seat belts. All of the seat belt retractors are designed to keep the lap/shoulder belts out of the way when not in use.
Black plate (22,1) WARNING Always wea r your seat belt and make sure all occupants are properly restrained: Not wearing a seat belt is extremely dangerous. During a collis ion, occupa nts not wearing seat belts could hit someone or things inside the veh icle or even be thrown out of the vehicle.
Black plate (23,1) CAUTION Belt retract ion may become difficult if the belt s and rings are soiled, so try to keep them clean . For more details about cleaning the seat belts, refer to “ Cleaning the Lap/Shoulder Belt Webbing ” (page 8-52).
Black plate (24,1) q Automatic Locking Mode Always use the automatic locking mode to keep the child-res traint system from shifting to an unsafe position in the event of an acciden t. T o e nable seat belt automatic locking mode, pull it all the way out and connect it as instruct ed on the child-restraint system.

Black plate (27,1) Front Seat Belt Pretensioner and Load Limiting Systems For optimum protection, the driver and front passen ger seat belts are equipped with prete nsioner and load limiting systems. For both these systems to work properly y ou must wear the seat belt properly .
Black plate (28,1) Do not modify the compo nents or wiring, or use electronic testing devic es on the pretensioner system: Modifying the componen ts or wiring of the pretensioner system, including the use of electronic testing devices is dangerous.
Black plate (29,1) q Air Bag/Front Seat Belt Pretensioner System W arni ng Beep If a malfunction is detected in the air bag/ front seat belt pretensioner systems and the warning light, a warning beep sound will be heard for about 5 seconds every minute.
Black plate (30,1) Do not use an imprope r extend er: Using a seat belt extender that is for another perso n or a different vehicle or seat is dangerous. The seat belt will not provide adequate protection and the user could be seriously injured in an accident.

SRS air bags are designed to work together with the seat belts to help to reduce inju ries during an accident. Black plate (55,1) q Front Passenger Air Bag The front passenger air bag is mounted in the front passenger dashboard. The infl ation mechanism for the front passen ger air bag is the same as the driver's air bag, as mentioned above. Black plate (56,1) q Side Air Bags The side air bags are mounted in the outboard sides of the front seatbacks. When the air bag crash sensors detect a side impact of great er than moderate force, the system inflates the side air bag only on the side in whi ch the vehicle was hit.
Black plate (57,1) In a side impact: Greater than moderate impact to one side of the vehicle will cause the curtain air bag on that side only to infl ate. The side and curtain air bags will deploy only on the side the vehicle recei ves the force of the impact.
