Black plate (14,1) Seat Precaution WARNING Make sure the adjustable components of a seat are locked in place: Adjustable seats and seatbacks that are not securely locked are dangerou s. In a sudden stop or collision, the seat or seatback could move, causing injury.

Black plate (16,1) Front Seat q Seat Operation Power operation Seat Slide (Manual Seat) T o move a seat forward or backward, raise the lever and slide the seat to the desired position and release the lever . Make sure the lever returns to its original position and the seat is locked in place by attempting to push it forward and backward.
Black plate (17,1) Seat Recline (Manual Seat) T o change the seatb ack angle, lean forward slightly while raising the lever . Then lean back to the desired position and release the lever . Make sure the lever returns to its original position and the seatback is locked in place by attempting to push it forward and backward.
Black plate (18,1) q Seat W armer í The front seats are electrically heated. The ignition must be switched ON. Press the seat warmer switch to illumi nate the indicator light while the igni tion is switched ON. The mode changes as follow each time the seat war mer switch is pressed.
Black plate (19,1) NOTE l If the ignition is switched off while the seat warmer is operating (High, Mid or Low) and then switched ON again, the seat warmer will automatically operate at the temperature set before switching off the ignition. l Use the seat warmer when the engine is running.
Black plate (20,1) Make sure there is nobody in the rear seat area before operating (pulling) the remote handle levers (V ehicl es with remote handle): Not checking the rear seat area for persons before folding the seatbacks with the strap/remote handle levers is dangerous.
Black plate (21,1) Folding both seatbacks down Using remote handle í After checking that the rear seats are clear, open the liftgate and lower the seatback you want to fold do wn using the remote handle. When folding the left side, operate the outer part of the remote handle .

After checking that the center seat is clear , open the liftgate an d pull the inside remote handle levers on the left side of the liftgate compartment.
Black plate (23,1) WARNING Always make sure the seat bel ts are fully pulled out from under the seatbacks: A seat belt caught under a seatback after the seatback is returned to its upright position is dangerous. In a collision or sudden stop, the seat belt cannot provide adequate protection.

The head rest raints are intended to help protect you and the passengers from neck injury . WARNING Always drive with the head restr aints installed when seats are being used and make sure they are properly adjusted.
Black plate (25,1) Removal/Installation T o remove the head restraint, pull it up while pressing the stop-catch. T o install the head restraint, inser t the uprights into the holes while pressing the stop-catch.
Black plate (26,1) Seat Belt Precautions Seat belts help to d ecrease the possibility of severe injury durin g accidents and sudden stops. Mazda recommends that the driver and all passengers always wear seat belts. All of the seat belt retractors are designed to keep the lap/shoulder belts out of the way when not in use.
Black plate (27,1) Have your seat belts changed immed iately if the pretensioner or load limiter has been expended: Always have an Authorized Mazda Dealer immediately inspect the front seat belt pretensioners and air bags after any collision.
Black plate (28,1) q Pregnant W omen and Persons with Serious Medical Conditions Pregnant women should always wear seat belts. Ask your doctor for specific recommendations. The lap belt should b e worn SNUGL Y AND AS LOW AS POSSIBLE OVER THE HIPS. The shoulder belt should b e worn across your shoulder proper ly , but never across the stomach area.

If not, the child could be seriously injured or even killed in an accident .

Black plate (41,1) Installing Child-Restraint Systems Accident statistics reveal that a child is safer in the rear seat. The front passenger's seat is clearly the worst choice for any child under 12, and wi th rear-facing child- restraint systems it is clearly unsafe du e to air bags.
Black plate (42,1) WARNING Always attach the tether strap to the correct tether anchor position: Attaching the tether strap to the incorrect tether anchor position is dangerous. In a collision, the tether strap could come off and loos en the child-restraint system.

A clicking noise from the retractor will be heard during retraction if the system is in the automatic locking mode. If the belt does not lock the seat down tight, repeat this step.

Black plate (49,1) Installation on rear outboard seats 1. First, adjust the front seat to allow clearance between the child-restraint system and the front seat (page 2-4). 2. Make sure the seatback is securely latched by pushing it bac k until it is fully locked.

Black plate (98,1) Fuel-Filler Lid and Cap WARNING When removing the fuel-filler cap, loosen the cap slightly and wait for any hissing to stop. Then remove it: Fuel spray is dangerous.

WARNING Make sure the opening is clear before closing a window: Closing power windows are dangerous. A person's hands, head, or even neck could be caught by the window and result in serious injury or even death.
Black plate (105,1) Power window system initialization procedure If the battery was disconnected du ring vehicle maintenance, or for other reasons (such as a switch conti nues to be operated after the window is fully open/closed ), the window will not fully open and close automatically .
Black plate (106,1) q Operating the Passenger Power Windows The power windows may be operat ed when the power window lock switch on the driver's door is in the unlocked position. The passenger windows may be op ened or closed using the master control switches on the driver's door .

Black plate (11 1,1) Theft-Deterrent System í If the theft deterrent system detects an inappropriate entry into the vehicle, which could result in the vehicle or its contents being stolen, the alarm alerts the surrounding area of an abnormality by sounding the horn and flas hing the hazard warning lights.
Black plate (1 12,1) NOTE l The theft deterr ent system can also be armed by activating the auto r elock function with all the doors, the liftgate and the hood closed. Refer to T ransmitter on page 3-4. l The system will disarm if one of the following operations takes place within 20 seconds after pr essing the lock button: l Unlocking a door .
