IMPORT ANT ELECTRIC AL CONSIDER ATIONS U nplug all electrical appliances when y ou know an electrical storm is approaching. Lightning can pass through y our household wiring and damage an y device connected to it.
Radio Interf erence Radio interfer ence may occasionally cause buzzing and humming in your cor dless handset, or clicking noises in the base. This interference is caused by an external sour ce such as a T V , refrig erator , vacuum cleaner , f luor escent lighting, or electrical storm.
INST ALL ATION CONSIDER A TIONS Selecting a Location Befor e choosing a location for y our new phone, there are some important guidelines y ou should consider: • The location should be close to both a phone jack and continuous pow er outlet. ( A continuous power outlet is an AC outlet which does not have a switch to interrupt its power .
Connecting the T elephone Cords Consider these safety guidelines bef ore connecting the telephone cor ds: Caution! • Nev er install telephone wiring during a lightning storm. • Nev er touch uninsulated telephone wires or terminals unless the telephone line has been disconnected.
Installing and Adjusting YourPhone DESK/T ABLETOP INST ALL ATION 1) Plug the A C adapter cord into th e9VD Ci n p u t jack on the back of the base. 2) Wrap the A C adapter cord around the strain r elief notch. 3) Plug the AC adapter into a standar d 1 20 V A C wall outlet.
7) Set the base on a desk or tabletop, and place the handset into the base as shown. Then, raise the antenna to a vertical position. W ALL INSTALL A TION ▼ Standard wall plate mounting This phone can be mounted on any standar d A T&T or GTE wall plate.
5) Plug one end of the telephone cord into the TEL LINE jack on the back of the base, then plug the other end into a standard telephone jack. 6) Line up the mounting slots on the base with the mounting posts on the wall, then push in and down until the phone is firmly seated.
▼ Direct wall mounting If you don’t hav e a standard w all plate, you can mount y our phone directly to the w all. Befor e doing this, consider the follo wing: • Select a location away fr om electrical cables, pipes, or other items behind the mounting location.
5) Put the A C adapter cord inside the molded wiring channel, then wrap the A C adapter cord ar ound the strain relief notch. Plug the A C adapter into a standard 1 20 V A C wall outlet. 6) Plug one end of the telephone cord into the TEL LINE jack on the back of the base, then plug the other end into a standard telephone jack.
9) Flip the retainer from fr ont to back, then slide it back into the slot so that the lip of the retainer f aces up and the ov al is at the bottom of the retainer .
▼ Low batter y indicator When the batter y pack is v er y lo w and needs to be charged, the phone is pr o- grammed to eliminate functions in order to sav e power . If the phone is not in use, the talk/batt LED flashes every three seconds. If the phone is in use, the talk/batt LED flashes every three seconds and the handset beeps.
SETTING THE PULSE/TONE SWITCH Be sure the PULSE/T ONE switch is in the T ONE position unless your local phone system uses pulse dialing. ADJUSTING THE RIN GER CONTROLS ▼ Handset ringer tone and ring er volume When the phone is in standby mode, pressing the v olume k ey on the handset selects the handset ringer v olume and tone.
A UTOMA TIC DIGIT AL CODE SECURIT Y T o prevent other parties from making unauthorized calls on y our phone line, a digital code was added to the MPH6929. Y our phone’s handset and base share this code, which is randomly set each time y ou place the handset in the charging cradle.
Using YourNew Phone MAKING AND RECEIVIN G CALLS Handset On Base Handset Off Base T o answer a call Pick up the handset, or press speaker on the base. Press an y button on the handset or press speaker on the base. T o make a call 1) Pick up the handset.
STORING A PHONE NUMBER IN MEMOR Y Y our MPH6929 phone has 1 0 memor y locations f or storing important telephone numbers. 1) Remo v e the handset from the base.
▼ One-touch priority dialing Y our phone is equipped with three “One- T ouch Priority” keys f or instant dialing. Y ou cannot store phone numbers directly into M1 , M2 or M3 . They are only used to dial phone numbers stored into memor y locations 1 , 2 and 3.
REDIAL The redial k ey redials the last number dialed. The redialed number can be up to 32 digits long. TONE If you ar e dialing in the pulse mode and need to enter tone digits, press tone to enter the digits. Once the call has ended, the tone mode is canceled and pulse dialing resumes.
Setting Up the Integrated Answering Device THE INTEGR ATED ANSWERIN G DEVICE The MPH6929 has a built-in answering system that answ ers and records incoming calls.
TURNING THE ANSWERIN G SY STEM ON/OFF 1) T o turn the answering system on, press answer on/off . A beep tone will sound and the current outgoing message will play on the base speak er . A beep tone will sound after the outgoing message plays. The message counter LED lights to indicate that the unit is ready to answ er calls.
4) Press skip or repeat until you hear the curr ent hour setting. Numbers 1 through 1 2 display on the base as each hour is announced. 5) Press clo ck again to select the correct hour . 6) Press skip or repeat until you hear the curr ent minute setting.

A tone sounds and your messag e plays back on the base speaker . ▼ Announce only f eature The Announce Only featur e plays a prerecor ded outgoing message or your o wn personal outgoing message, but it will not allow the caller to leave a messag e.
SELECTING A PIN CODE T o play your messag es from a remote location, y ou will need to enter a two-digit P ersonal Identif ication N umber ( PIN ) code (00-99). T o select a PIN , perform the f ollowing steps: 1) On the base, press and hold the pin button.
SETTING THE TOLL S A VER SWITCH The ring time/toll saver switch allo ws you to set the number of rings the caller hears befor e your answering system plays y our outgoing message. Y ou can set the switch to answer after tw o rings or after four rings.
Using the Integrated Answering Device PL A YING Y OUR MESSA GES The base LED shows the number of total messag es on the display . If the display is blinking, then there are new messag es waiting f or you. The MPH6929 is designed to play your new messag es f irst.
2) Af ter a message has play ed for a few seconds, press repeat to replay the message. 3) Press play/stop at any time to stop r eviewing your messag es and return to standby . The message counter LED sho ws the total number of message-s still on the system.
DELETING A MESS A GE 1 . Press play/stop to review your messag es. 2. If y ou decide to delete a message, press delete anytime during the message. The system beeps and immediately goes to the next message. 3. After you have play ed all of your messag es, a long tone sounds on the base speak er .

REMOTE ROOM MONITOR Y ou can call y our answering system fr om any touch-tone phone and monitor sounds in the room where y our base is installed. 1) Call your telephone number . 2) During the outgoing message playback, pr ess # follo w ed by y our PIN code.
QUICK REFERENCE CHART If your phone is not perf orming to your expectations, please tr y these simple steps first. PROBLEM SUGGESTION The charge light w on’t come on when the handset is placed in the base. • Mak e sure the A C adapter is plugged into the base and w all outlet.
PROBLEM SUGGESTION The handset doesn’t ring or receiv e a pag e. • The Nick el-Cadmium batter y pack may be weak. Charg e the batter y on the base unit for 1 5-20 hours. • The handset may be too far aw ay from the base unit. • Place the base unit away fr om appliances or metal objects.
PROBLEM SUGGESTION Cannot access remote call-in featur es from another touch- tone phone. • Mak e sure y ou’re using the correct PIN number . • Mak e sure that the touch-tone phone you’r e using can transmit the tone for at least tw o seconds.
