43 Getting started Adjusting Easy-entry/exit feature This feature allows for easier entry into and exit from the vehicle. When entering and exiting the vehicle, the steering wheel is in its uppermost position. The easy-entry/exit feature can be activat- ed or deactiva ted in the Convenience sub- menu of the control system ( 컄 page 156).
44 Getting started Adjusting Mirrors Adjust the interior and exterior rear view mirrors before driving so that you have a good view of the road and traffic condi- tions. 55 Getting started Driving Intermittent wiping The intermittent wiping interval is depen- dent on the wetness of the windshield. 왘 Turn the combination switch to position I . After the initial wipe, pauses between wipes are controlled by the rain sensor.
56 Getting started Driving Problems while driving The engine runs errati cally and misfires 앫 An ignition cable may be damaged. 앫 The engine electronics may not be op- erating properly. 앫 Unburned gasoline may have entered the catalytic converter and damaged it.
57 Getting started Driving The coolant temperature gauge is above 248°F (120°C) The coolant is too hot and is no longer cooling the engine. 왘 Stop the vehicle as soon as possible in a safe location and turn off the engine. Allow engine and coolant to cool .
58 Getting started Parking and locking You have now completed your fir st drive. You have properly stopped and parked your vehicle. End your drive as foll ows. Wa r n i n g ! G With the engine not running, there is no power assistance for the brake and steerin g systems.

66 Safety and Security Occupant safety 앫 Adjust the driver seat as far as possible rearward, still permitting proper opera- tion of vehicle co ntrols. The distance from the center of the driver’s breast- bone to the center of the airbag cover on the steering wheel must be at least 10 inches (25 cm) or more.
67 Safety an d Security Occupant safety Wa r n i n g ! G Should you choos e to place a child 12 years old or under in the passenger seat of your vehicle, you must properly use a BabySmart TM child restraint wh ich will turn off the passenger front airbag ( 컄 page 76).

70 Safety and Security Occupant safety Front airbags Driver and passenger airbags are de- ployed: 앫 in the event of certain frontal impacts 앫 if impact exceeds a preset deployment threshold 앫 independently of the head-thorax air- bags The airbags will not deploy in impacts which do not exceed the system’s deploy- ment thresholds.
71 Safety an d Security Occupant safety Head-thorax airbags The head-thorax airbags are deployed: 앫 on the impacted side of the vehicle 앫 in impacts exceeding a preset deploy- ment threshold 앫 independently of the front airbags The head-thorax airbags are not deployed in impacts which do not exceed the sys- tem’s deployment threshold.

73 Safety an d Security Occupant safety Wa r n i n g ! G Never let more people ride in the vehicle than there are seat belts available. Be sure everyone riding in the vehicle is correctly re - strained with a separate seat belt. Never use a seat belt for more than one person at a time.
74 Safety and Security Occupant safety Emergency tensioning device (ETD), seat belt force limiter The seat belts are equipped with emergen- cy tensioning devices, belt force limiters, and automatic comfort -fit.
75 Safety an d Security Occupant safety Automatic comfort-fit fea ture seat belt The automatic comfort-fit feature reduc es the retracting force of the seat belts when they are in normal use. Roll bar The roll bar raises automatically in an acci- dent or in a critical driving situation.

83 Safety an d Security Driving safety systems ABS The Antilock Brake System (ABS) regulates the brake pressure so that the wheels do not lock during braking. This allows you to maintain the ability to steer your vehicle. The ABS is functional above a speed of approximately 5 mph (8 km/h) indepen- dent of road surface conditions.
84 Safety and Security Driving safety systems For more information, see the “Practical hints” section ( 컄 page 332). BAS The Brake Assist System (BAS) operates in emergency situations. If you apply the brakes very quickly, the BAS automatically provides full brake boost, thereby poten- tially reducing the braking distance.
85 Safety an d Security Driving safety systems ESP ® The Electronic Stability Program ( ESP ® ) is operational as soon as the engine is run- ning and monitors the vehicle's traction (force of adhesive friction between the tires and the road surface) and handling.
