IMPORT ANT SAFETY INS TRUCTIONS 11 Cleaning and care Never use a steam cleaner t o clean the ventilation hood. The steam can r each the electrical components and cause a short circuit. Accessories Use only genuine original Miele parts. If parts or accessories from other manufacturers ar e used, the warr anty will become void.
Caring for the envir onment 12 Disposal of the packing material The cardboar d box and packing materials pr otect the appliance during shipping. They have been designed to be biodegradable and r ecyclable. Ensure that any plastic wr appings, bags, etc.
Description of functions 13 The following functions are available on your ventilation hood, depending on the model: V ented mode Air entering thr ough the intake is cleaned by the grease filt ers and conducted out of the building.

Operation 16 T urning on the fan Pr ess the On/Off button . The fan turns on at level 2 . The symbol and 2 will light up in the fan level display . Selecting the power level P ower levels 1 to 3 can be used for light to heavy cooking vapors and odors.
Operation 17 T urning off the fan Pr ess the On/Off button to turn the fan off. The symbol will go out. T urning cooktop lighting On/Off The cooktop lighting can be turned on and off separat ely from the fan. T o do so, press the button.

Cleaning and care 19 Special instructions for control buttons Do not leave dirt and debris on the buttons for any length of time. Otherwise they may become discolored or damaged. Remove any dirt or debris immediately . Observe the general cleaning instructions contained in this chapter .
Cleaning and care 20 T o remove a gr ease filter , release the locking clip. Then, open the filter to a 45° angle, unhook it, and remove it from the hood. Cleaning the grease filter by hand Clean the filters with a soft nylon brush in a mild solution of hot water and dish soap.
Cleaning and care 21 OdorF ree Charcoal Filt er If the hood is connected for recir culation, an OdorF ree Char coal Filter must be inserted in addition t o the grease filt er . This is designed to absorb cooking odors. It is fitted in the canopy above the grease filt er .
Cleaning and care 22 Changing a light bulb The halogen lights become very hot when in use. They can cause burns even after being shut off for some time. Allow them to cool down for a few minutes befor e changing them. Disconnect the hood from the electrical supply before r eplacing the lights (see "IMPORT ANT SAFETY INSTRUCIT ONS").

Removing the protective film The housing components are cover ed by a prot ective film to prevent them from becoming damaged during transport.

Please also observe the information contained in the "IMPORT ANT SAFETY INSTRUC TIONS" section.
Installation 29 Installation recommendations – We also r ecommend a distance of at least 25 1/2" (650 mm) above electric cooktops to pr ovide more workspace and easier cooking under the hood. – When selecting an installation height, always take the user height into consideration.
Exhaust duct 30 WARNING: Danger of t oxic fumes. Gas cooking appliances release carbon monoxide that can be harmful or fatal if inhaled. T o reduce the risk of fir e and to properly e xhaust air , the exhaust gases extr acted by the hood should be vented outside of the building only .
Exhaust duct 31 Condensate trap In addition to insulating the e xhaust duct, we recommend installing a condensate tr ap to collect and evaporat e any condensate which might accumulate. Condensate tr aps are available for exhaust ducts with a diamet er of 5" (125 mm) or 6" (150 mm).
