GB - 5 2. DANGER! 3. DANGER! SAFETY RULES Read, understand, and follow al l safety practices in Owner/Operator Manual before beginning assembly or operating. Failure to follow instructions could result in personal injury and/or d amage to unit. AL WA YS rem ove key and/or wire from spark plug before assembly , maintenance or service.
GB - 6 DO NOT operate near drop-offs, di tches, or embankments. Unit can s uddenly turn over if a wheel is over the edge of a cliff or ditch, or if an edge caves in. Falling snow , fog, etc. can reduce vision and cause an accident . Operate unit only when there is good visibility and light.
GB - 7 Check clutch and brake operation frequently . Adjust and service as required. All motion of drive wheels and auger/impeller must stop quickly when cont rol levers are released. DO NOT operate on steep slopes. DO NOT clear snow across the fa ce of slopes.

GB - 9 Inst all D ischarg e Chut e and Discha rge Chu te Cran k (921004, 006, 007, 008, 009) (Figure 6) 1. Grease underside of discharge chute ring (if not already greased). 2. Remove mounting hardware from auger housing. 3. Install discharge chute over opening in the auger housing.
GB - 10 NOTE: After the chute r od has been inserted through the hex hole in the control assembly , placing the unit in the service position (see Service Posit ion on page 22) will ease alignment and installation of the hair pin.
GB - 11 4. Insert the short end of the chute rod into the hole in the front of the control panel. 5. Connect the chute crank to the pinion gear on chut e with spring clip. IMPORT ANT : Rotate the disc harge chute to the lef t when tightening the pedest al hardware to ens ure clearance between t he discharge chute and the belt cover.

GB - 16 CONTROLS AND FEA TURE S See CONTROLS and FEA T URES on page 13 for all Controls and Features locations. Dual Handle Interlock When Attachment Clutch and th en T raction Drive Clutch are engaged, the Attachment Clutch will remain engaged (leve r down) if released.
GB - 17 S peed Selecto r Position the Speed Selector in the appropriate speed notch to control forward and reverse t ravel. Forwar d: (6) Fast est (1) Slowest Reverse: (1) Slow (2) Fast IMPORT ANT : DO NOT change motion from forward to reverse with clutch engaged.
GB - 18 Discharge Chute Discharge chute rotates 200°. AL WA Y S position discharge chute in safe direction and angle, away from operator and bystanders, before starting engine.
GB - 19 T rack Angle (92 1007, 0 08, 00 9) (Figure 19) The track angle can be adjusted to position the auger housing for level clearing, deep cutting or transport. Squeeze the ha ndlebar trigger and press down on the handlebar s to move t he auger housing into an up positi on.
GB - 20 2. Check Function o f Clutches If clutches do not engage or disengage properly , adjust or repa ir before operation. See Attachment Clutch/Brak e Adjustment on page 28 and T racti on Drive Clutch Adjustmen t on p age 30. 3. Che ck Dual Ha ndle Inte rlock Without the engine running, pres s down (engage) both clutch levers.
GB - 21 4. Make sure that the traction clutch and attachment drive clutc h levers are fully disengaged. 5. Push Primer Bulb 2 or 3 times for cold engine. NOTE: When temperature is below -15° F (-26° C) additional priming may be needed. 6. Insert key into ignition switch on engine and push into "Run" posit ion.
GB - 22 Ariens Dealers will provide any service or adjustments which may be required to keep your unit operating at peak efficiency . Should engine service be required, contact an Ariens dealer or an auth orized engine manufacturer's service center .
GB - 23 If clutches do not engage or disengage properly , adjust or repa ir before operation. See Attachment Clutch/Brak e Adjustment on page 28 and T racti on Drive Clutch Adjustmen t on p age 30. CLE AN E N GINE Refer to Engine Manual f or detailed instructions.
GB - 24 GENERAL LUBRICATION IMPORT ANT : Wipe each fitting clean before and after lubrication. Do not wipe gea rcase filler plug; wiping the gearcase filler pl ug may remove thread sealant and cause leaks . IMPORT ANT : DO NOT allow grease or oil to get on friction disc, f riction plate or belt s.
GB - 25 SHEAR BOLTS IMPORT ANT : Use only Ariens shear b olts for replacement. Use of any other type of s hear bolt may result in severe damage to unit. See SERVICE P A RTS on page 35. Occasionally a foreign object may enter the auger/impeller housing and jam the auger , breaking shear bolts (Figure 25) which secure the aug er to the shaft.
GB - 26 4. T o adjust deflector higher: Slide cable up. Tighten top nut. 5. Check travel and repeat adjustment as necessary . DISCHARGE CHUTE (9 21004, 006, 007, 0 08, 009 ) If chute does not st ay in.
GB - 27 DISCHARGE CHUTE (9 21005) If discharge chute does not stay in position while operating, tighten nut on carriage bolt at pivot point to increase tension on spring (Figure 31). SPEE D SEL ECTOR ADJUSTMEN T T o adjust (Figure 32): 1. Disc onnect adjustment pivot pin from speed selector lever by removing hair pin.
GB - 28 ATT ACHMENT CLUTCH/BRAKE ADJUSTMENT (Figures 33, 34 and 35) Remove Att achment Cable Slack 1. Remove t he belt cover . 2. Loosen jam nut on cable adjustment barrel, and then turn the adjustment barrel up or down to lengthen or shorten cable and remove all cable slack.
GB - 29 Adjust th e Att achm ent Clutch Cable S pring Extension 1. Check the attachment clutch cable spring extension. Measure the length o f the attachment clutch cable spring with the clutch lever disengaged. Then measure the attachment clutch spring with the clutch lever engaged.
GB - 30 Check Attac hment Brake See Figure 38. 1. With the clutch lever disengaged, brake pad must contact a ttachment belts . With clutch lever engaged, brake pad must be more than 1/16 in. (1.6 m m) from belts. If there is more than 1/16 in. (1.6 mm ) gap, go to Check Belt Finger Clearance on page 30.
GB - 31 a. With the traction drive clutch lever disengaged, loosen the jam nut on the cable adjuster. b. Turn the adjuster body up the cable to decrease the distance between the clutch lever and handlebar . c. Turn the adjuster body dow n the cable to increase the distance between the clutch lever and handlebar .
GB - 32 8. Remove hex bolts securing housing to frame (two on each side). Tip housing and frame apart on pivot pin (Figure 43). 9. Remove attachment driv e belts from attachment pulley (hold brak e away from belt). Inst all ne w att ach ment dri ve belt s: 1.
GB - 33 2. T o gain belt clearance, remove swing gate spacer and slide drive plate over so that finger clears stop hole in f rame and can swing past it. See F igure 45. 3. Pull idler away from t raction drive belt and remove belt from idler pulley , engine sheave and driven pulley (it may be necessary to turn engine pulley using recoil handle).
GB - 34 T RACK T ENSION ADJ USTMENT (9210 07, 008, 00 9) Check the track tension by applying pressu re on the track mi dway between the uppe r and rear track rollers. Deflection should be approximately 3/8 in. (9. 6 mm). See Figure 47. If deflection is exces sive, tighten the track tension.
GB - 35 SHORT T ERM IMPORT ANT : NEVE R spray unit with high pressure wa ter or store unit outdoors . Run with attachment clutch engag ed a few minutes after each use to free unit of any loose or melting snow . Close fuel shut-off valve. Inspect unit for v isible signs of wear , breakage or damag e.
