1 1. Introduction The MIL-S80 01TG switch is a multi-port switch that can be used to build high-perform ance switched workgroup n etworks. This switch is a store-and-forward d evice that offe rs low latency for high-spe ed networking. The switch is targeted at workgroup, depa rtment or backbone computing environme nts.
2 Features Conforms to I EEE 802.3 1 0BASE-T,I EEE 802.3u 100BAS E-TX,IEEE 802.3ab 1000BA SE-T,IEEE 802.3z gigabit f iber and IEEE 802 .3x 8 x 10/100/10 00 Base-TX RJ-45 ports 1 MINI GB IC.
3 Softw are Featur es VLAN Port Based VLA N, support up to 8 group s 4K IEEE802 .1Q Tag VLAN QOS 2 Types of quality of service: 1.Port bas ed priority.
4 Ethernet Sw itching Tech nolog y Ethernet Switching Technology dramatica lly boosted the total bandwidth of a network, elim inated congestion problem s inherent with CSMA/CD (Carrier Sense multiple a ccess with Collision Dete ction) protocol, and greatly reduced unnecessa ry transmissions.
5 Manageme nt Metho ds The MIL-S80 01TG switch series supports Conso le Management method s Console Management is done through the RS-232 Console Port.
6 2. Hardwar e Description Front Panel The Front Pane l of the MIL-S8001TG switch consists of eight 10/100/1000Bas e-TX RJ-45 ports, one MI NI GBIC slot, one LED-Indicato r for Power, three LED-Indicators (100/100 0, LNK/ACT, FDX/COL) for each UTP port, and two LE D-Indicators (LNK/ACT ) for the Mini-GBIC slot.
7.
8 LED Indicat ors The LED In dicators give real-time inf ormation of systematic ope ration status. The follo wing table provides description s of LED statuses and their meanin g. Figure 2-2. L ED Indic ators LED Status Color Description Power On Green Power On On Green The port is ope rating at the speed of 1000Mbps.
9 On Orange The port is ope rating in Full-duplex mode. Blinks Orange Collision of Packets is occurring in the port. FDX /COL Off The port is ope rating in Half-duple x mode o r no device attached. LNK (MINI GBIC) On Green The port is su ccessfully connecting with the de vice.
1 0 Rear Panel The 3-pronged power plug and console port are located at the rear panel of th e MIL-S8001TG as shown in Figure 2 -3. The switch will work with AC i n the range 100-24 0V AC, 50-60Hz.
11 Power On Connect the power cord to the power socke t on the rear panel of the switch. Connect the other end of the cord to an appropriate power outlet. The inte rnal power supp ly in the switch works with AC in the voltage range of 100-240VAC and frequen cy 50~60Hz.
1 2 3. Netw ork Application This section pro vides you a f ew samples of net work topology in witch the S witch is used. In general, the 8 Gigabit Copper with o ne MI NI GBI C Smart switch is designed as a segment switch. That is, with its address table (4000 MAC address) and high pe rformance, it is ideal for in terconnecting net working segments.
13 Segment Bri dge For ente rprise networks where l arge data broadcasts are constant ly processed, this switch is an ideal solu tion for departme nt users to c onnect to the corpo rate backbone . In the illustration below, t wo Ethernet switches with PCs, print server, and local server attac hed, are both conn ect to the switch.
1 4 4. Console Managem ent Connecti ng a Ter minal or PC to the Co nsole P ort Console mana gement involves the administ ration of the switch via a direct connection to the RS-232 console port. This port is a female DB-9 conne ctor. From the ma in menu of the console program , the user has access t o manage the funct ions of the switch.
15 After the c onnection betw een the Switch and PC is finish ed, t urn on the PC and run a termina l emulation program or Hyper Terminal and conf igure its communica tion parameters to match t he follow in g default chara cteristics of the conso le port: Baud Rate: 9600 bps Data Bits: 8 Parit y : none Stop Bit: 1 Flow Control: None Figure 4-1.
1 6 4-1. Mai n Menu There are five ite ms for selection as follows. VLAN Mode: Co nfigure the VLAN functio n. QOS Control: Configure the QoS function.
