4 - 14 4.5 MOWER BELT ADJUSTM ENT Adjust mowe r belt after first fiv e (5) hours of operation. T o adjus t 28" and 3 0" mowers (F igure 5): 1. Place height co ntrol le ver in midnotch position , depres s spring clip and tighten yok e on front of unit with a 3/ 4" sock et wrench.
4 - 15 3. Releas e parking b rake and turn both re ar wheels by hand . They should rotate freely in neutral (N) but not r otate with speed se lector in a ny other positi on. 4. Using t wo 1/2" wr enches (to avoid twisti ng or distorti ng brake band ), hold in ner adjusti ng nut with one w rench and l oosen outer lock nut wit h the other .

5 - 20 5.5 SPARK PLUG Spark pl ug shoul d be cleaned or replac ed (if neces sary) and gap reset to .03 0" every 1 00 hours of operati on or yearly whichever comes fir st. T o clean : 1. Remove debris fro m area arou nd spar k plug base. 2. Remove spark p lug from eng ine.
5 - 21 Place washers be tween frame an d engine a t locatio ns where c ap screws wi ll be ins talled. Using ou ter bolt circl e secure eng ine to frame with four cap sc rews, wa shers and locknuts . T orque to 125 in-lbs (7.7 Nm). NOTE: On Ka wasaki engi nes torque cap screws to 18 ft-lbs (13.
6 - 22 6.1 ROTARY MOWER BELT REPLACEMENT 1. Diseng age (OUT) mower clutch lever . 2. Loosen three nuts securin g rear belt finger to bac k cover and rota te belt fin ger countercloc kwise to remove from unit.
6 - 23 3. Sharp en both en ds of blade at ori ginal an gle (25 o ), remov ing equal amounts of material from e ach end to maint ain prop er blade bal ance. New b lades are balanc ed to within 1. 3 in. oz. at fa ctory . DO NOT grind around corner at tip of blade.
6 - 24 T o Remove Cowling 1. Remove throttle con trol knob. 2. Remove two scre ws secu ring throttl e contro l to dash pa nel. 3. Remove six s crews s ecuring dash p anel to cowling and rem ove dash pa nel. 4. Unp lug wires t o key swi tch. 5. Remove two taptit es secur ing stop to quadran t and remove stop.

9 - 29 9.1 REAR AXLE DISASSEMBLY 1. Remove wheel, hub cap, cotte r pin, an d retainer from s hort axle a nd remove shor t axle. 2. Remove roll pin i n long ax le and remov e long axle along wi th washer on inside of axle. 3. Inspec t all parts for wear or damage an d replace as nece ssar y .
