5 SECTION 2: CONTENTS OF HARDWARE PACK (Boxed Units) Lay out the hardwa re according to the illustration below for identification purpose s. Part numbers are shown in parentheses. (Har dware pack may contain extra items which are not used on your unit.
6 SECTION 3: ASSEMBLING YOUR SNOW THROWER NOTE: Refe rences to right or left side of the snow thrower are de termined from behind th e unit in the operating posit ion. The “operator ’s position” is defin ed as standing direct ly behind the snow thrower, facing the handle panel.
7 Assembly (Crated Unit) WARNING: Disconnect the s park plug wire and ground it agains t the engine to prevent unint ended starting. • Remove the lower two plastic wing knobs, cupped washers and carriage bolt (eyebolt on the left side) from the lowe r handle .
8 • Insert curved end of the Z fitting into the top hole in the triangular met al tab on the auger control grip. The triangular metal tab on the auger contro l grip must face the cent er of the handle panel. See Figure 6. Figure 6 • Place th e auger co ntrol on to p of the left handle .
9 • Thread the ferrule onto th e shift rod, up or down the shift rod and align with the far hole on the narr ow side of the shift lever assembly be hind the handle panel. See Figur e 10. Figure 10 • Secure the ferrule to the shif t arm ass embly with the flat wa sher and hairpin clip.
10 Attaching The Chute Dir ectional Control (Hardw are C) • Thread one he x nut about halfway on to eye bolt on the chute direc tional control. • Insert eye bolt through the hole provided in the le ft handle. See Figure 13. • Secure with cupped washer (cup ped side against the handle) an d other hex nut.

12 • Crank clockwise to disch arge to the left. • Crank counterclockwise t o discharge to the right. Clean-Out T ool WARNING: Never use your hand to clear a clogged discharge d chute. Shut off engine and remain behind hand les until all moving parts have stop ped before unclogging.
13 WARNING: The optional electri c starter is equipped with a ground ed three-wire power cord an d plug, and is designed to operate on 120 volt AC house hold current . It must be used with a proper ly grounded three-prong recep tacle at all times to avoid the possibility of electric s hock.
14 Check the adjustment of th e auger control as follows: • When the auger co ntrol is released and in the disengaged “u p” position, the cable should have very little slack. It shou ld NOT be tight. • In a well-ventilated area, start the snow thrower engine as instr ucted earlier in this sect ion under the heading Starting Engin e.
15 WARNING: The muffler, engine, a nd their surrounding a reas become hot and can cause a burn. Do not to uch. • Discharge snow downwind whenever possible. Slightly overlap each previous swath . • Set the skid sh oes 1/4” below the scraper bar for normal usage.
16 • With the t raction control is engaged, the friction wheel must contact the drive plate . See Figure 20. Figure 20 If adjustment is necessary: • Loosen the jam nut on the traction control cable and thread the cable in or out as necessary. • Retighten the jam nut to secure the cable when correct adjustment is reached.
17 NOTE: Make certain to check for cor rect adjustme nt of the shift rod as instruct ed in the Final Adjustments section before opera ting the snow thrower. Drive Wheels • The wheels may be adjust ed for two different methods of ope ration. Follow the steps below for adjustment .
18 Auger Shaft • At least once a season, remove shear bolt s on auger shaft. Oil or spray lubricant inside shaf t and lubricate th e auger bearings. S ee Figur e 24. Figure 24 Drive and Shifting Mechanism Remove rear cover. Oil an y chains, sprockets, gears, bearings, shaf ts, and shifting mechanism at leas t once a season.
19 Augers • The augers are secured to the spiral shaft with two shear bolts and hex lock nut s. If you hit a hard foreign object or ice jam, the snow thrower is designed so that th e bolts may shear. Refer to F igure 24. • If the augers will no t turn, check to see if the bolts have sheared.
20 Drive Belt • Follow first four st eps of previous instructions . • Pull idler pulley up, and lift belt off engine pulley and friction wheel disc. See Figure 28. • Using a wrench, loosen the nut on the stop bolt until the suppor t bracket r ests on th e auger pu lley.
21 • Run engine until fuel tank is empty and en gine stops due to la ck of fuel. • Drain carb uretor by pressing upwa rd on bowl drain, located below the ca rburetor cove r. NOTE: Fuel stabilizer, or “Sta-Bil” (Included with certain units), is an acceptable alte rnative in minimizing the formatio n of fuel gu m deposits du ring storag e.
