INTRODUCTION AB O UT T HE T 175 Though the T 175 is among the most technically sophisticated Tuner Pr eamplier, we worked hard to make it one of the most musically transparent home-theater components available as well; this is what we mean by NAD’ s “Music F irst ” design philosophy .
INTRODUCTION GET TING ST ARTED WH A T’S I N THE BOX Packed with your T 175 Tuner P reamplier you will nd • An AM loop antenna • A FM ribbon-wir e antenna with balun • A removable AC cable (if y ou wish, any IEC-standard AC cable of suitable wattage may be substituted).
1 POWER BUTTON: P ress this button or the HTRC 1 remote ’ s [ON] button to switch ON the T 175. The Standby LED indicator will turn from amber to blue and illuminate the VFD. P ressing the power button again turns the unit back to standby mode. The T 175 can also be switched ON from standby mode by pressing any of the front panel buttons .
11 SOURCE : Pr ess these buttons to toggle through the input selections – Source 1, Source 2, Source 3, Source 4, iP od, Source 7, Fr ont Input, Media Player and Tuner . More Sources could be directly recalled through these buttons upon enabling them at the Setup Menu (See the section “SOURCE SETUP ” at Setup Menu discussion).
1 7.1 CH INPUT : Connect to the corresponding analog audio outputs of a multichannel source component such as a DVD-Audio or multichannel-SACD player or external multichannel decoder (disc copy protected formats only allow analog sig nal transfer). T ypically , these sources will produce 5.
6 RS -232: Connect this interface via RS-232 serial cable (not supplied) to any Windows® compatible PC to allow remot e control of the T 175 through NAD’ s proprietary PC sof tware or other compatible external controllers. NAD is a certied partner of AMX and Crestron and fully supports these ex ternal devices.
13 HDMI (HDMI 1-4, HDMI MONIT OR OUT ): Connect HDMI inputs to the HDMI OUT connectors of source components such as DVD player or HDTV satellite/cable box.
ABOUT THE ON-SCREEN DISPLA Y (OSD) The T 175 employs a simple, self-explanator y system of on-screen display “menus ” that will appear on the connected video monitor/T V . T hese are required during the setup process (and are useful in day- to-day operation), so be sure to connect the monitor/T V before proceeding with setup .
PR O LOGI C T wo -channel recordings, whether st ereo or surround- encoded, ar e reproduced with Dolby Pro Logic surround pr ocessing, yielding output to front left/right, center and discrete left/right surround channels (assuming these are present in the current “Speaker Conguration”).
ADJUSTING LISTENING MODES Several of the T 175’ s listening modes have one or more selectable variations and adjustable parameters that you can modify to suit your personal pr eferences. At Listening Mode menu, use a combination of the [ENTER] and [ ] keys to navigate and e ec t desired settings .
ZONE CONTR OLS Depending on the settings made at the separate “Zone Setup” menu under the “S etup Menu” section discussion, the applicable Zone can be congured and managed via this “Zone Controls ” window . Select “On ” to ac tivate the applicable Z one.
SETUP MENU The Setup Menu allows one to customize the operation of the T 175 to the ancillary equipment used in one’ s specic A V system. Unless your syst em exac tly matches the factory defaults as shown in the accompanying Quick Start Guide, you will need to use the setup menu to congure the inputs of the T 175.
ANAL OG A UDIO The T 175 has nine analog audio inputs including 7.1 input. T hese analog inputs - Audio 1, Audio 2, Audio 3, Audio 4, Audio 5, A udio 6, Audio Front, A udio MP and 7.
ABOUT VIDEO FORMA TS F or many years, there was only one type of video format used. Composit e video signals include the Luminance (black & White) and Chroma (color) signals combined on one wir e. S-Video uses separate wires in a single cable for L uminance and Chroma signals.
iPod SE TUP The iPod Setup menu allows y ou to preset the following associated settings when iP od is the selected source: Enabled: Select “Y es” to enable iPod as a Source or “No ” to disable it.
MEASUREMENT IS THE FIRST STEP . The sound at each listening position (up to 8 positions) is calibrated using the same micr ophone used during the setup phase.
SPEAKER C ONFIGURA TION Every surround-sound system requires “bass-management ” to direct low-frequency content from any or all channels to the speakers best able to reproduce it. F or this function to operate correctly, it is important that you correctly identify your speakers’ capabilities.
ENHANCED BASS When the subwoofer is set t o ON and one or more speakers are set to “Large ” , Enhanced Bass is also available. Normally , with speakers set to “Large ” the subwoof er is not active. The Enhanced Bass option allows full range operation of the speakers with the additional bass contribution of the subwoofer .
T o produce the same SPL meter r eading (or subjec tive loudness), use the r emote’ s [ ] k eys to adjust each speaker . NOTES • All speakers must be in their nal locations before lev el-setting.
ADJUSTING CHANNEL LEVELS “ ON THE FL Y” Y ou can make changes to the relative levels of center , surround and subwoof er outputs without having to go into the “Speaker Levels” menu.
TRIGGER SETUP The T 175 features three congurable +12V DC T rigger Output that can be used to activate a component or system it is fed into . A T rigger Input is also available to turn on the applicable link it is associated to. Use a combination of [ ] or [ENTER] and [ ] keys to navigate through the Trigger Setup menu parameters.
DOLB Y DIGIT AL EX Using a Matrix decoder, this method cr eates the back channel (sometimes also called the “ surround center ”) by means of signals on the left and right surround channels recor ded in Dolby Digital 5.1, reproduction being provided in Surround 6.
DTS S ET UP Under this menu, the Dynamic Range Control of DTS Digital Surr ound can be adjusted as well as the settings for D TS Neo:6 Music. Dynamic Range Control : This is the same congurable Dynamic Range Control feature as described above at Dolby Setup, the only di erence being the soundtrack is now in DTS format.
ENHANCED STEREO Please ref er to the same description about “ENHANCED STEREO” under the “LISTENING MODE” of the Main Menu discussions. DISPLA Y SETUP The Vacuum Fluor escent Display ( VFD) and On-Screen Display ( OSD) can be shown in various ways by navigating through the parameters at the “Display Setup ” menu.
A/V PR ES ETS The T 175’ s simple but power fully exible system of “Presets ” allows you t o customize vir tually every aspect of your audio-video playback, and recall them with a single key-press.
LISTENING T O RADIO The T 175’ s internal AM/FM tuner oers very high quality sound from radio broadcasts. The reception and sound quality will always be dependent to a degree how e ver on the type of antenna(s) used as well as proximity to the br oadcast or igin, geograph y and weather conditions.
CHOOSING THE TUNER MODE The front-panel [ TUNER MODE] key is a dual-purpose control. In the normal position, FM Mute F M Stereo icons on the VFD are illuminated, only the stations with a strong signal can be listened to , and the noise between stations is muted.
ABOUT D AB RADIO Until now , analogue radio signals such as FM or AM have been subject to numerous kinds of inter fer ence on their way from the transmitter to your radio. These problems wer e caused by mountains, high-rise buildings and weather conditions.
ST A TION ORDER Use “Station Order ” to sor t the sequence of the listed stations. There are three orders – Alphanumeric, Ensemble and A c tive. 1 While listening to a D AB broadcast, press front panel’ s [ TUNER MODE] button and then [ TUNE / ] to select “Station Order .
INFORMA TION SETTINGS While listening to a DAB br oadcast, the t ype of information display ed in the lower line of the VFD can be varied. T oggle front panel’ s [INFO] button to step through the f .
CONTR OL FEA TURES AND SETTINGS The following contr ol func tions and settings are selectable or enabled using the front panel and HTRC 1 remote control butt ons. Since the HTRC 1 will be the primar y controller in most cases , we will focus on remote- controlled operations.
IDENTIFICA TION OF C ONTROLS • T op section features ON/OFF buttons and back -light LCD display . • Upper section has eight DEVICE SELEC TOR keys including one programmable CUST OM DEVICE SELEC T OR k ey and an additional MA CR O button function key.
F or example, the grey AMP DEVICE SELEC TOR key label corresponds to the grey input-select labeling adjacent to the numeric keys: When the HTRC 1’ s AMP DEVICE SELEC TOR page is active , these k eys select the amplier or receiver inputs.
MODE: The following backlight modes are available: • O : The backlight will never come ON. • Sense: The back light will only come ON if the light sensor detects low light conditions. See also“SENSE LEVEL ” discussion below . • On: The back light will come ON any time a key is pressed.
3 P ress [ENTER]. 4 P ress [MENU] button of HTRC 1 – [MENU] button of the HTRC 1 is where the corresponding [MENU] function key of the TV remote control will be learned. 5 P ress and hold the corresponding [MENU] button of the T V remote control until “Success” is shown in the display.
OPERA TION USING THE HTRC 1 REMO TE CONTROL 5 P ress the [AMP] button in the DEVICE SELEC TOR page . 6 Use [ ] to select between “No” (desired punch-through key will not be saved) and “ Y es” (desired punch-thr ough k ey will be saved and process is completed).
OPERA TION USING THE HTRC 1 REMO TE CONTROL DELETE Each key can have several functions types stored. However , only the highest priority t ype will be active. When you delete a function, a lower priority function type may become active. T o completely erase the functionalit y of a key, you ma y need to execute the Delete function multiple times.
EXECUTING MA CRO T o execute the abov e macro example, press [MACRO] and then [0]. The corresponding macro will run; the display will show each st ep/ command as the macro is executed . Pressing any other HTRC 1 key while a macro is executing will abort the macro.
