11 En Speaker Configura tion The following table indicate s the channels you sh ould use depending on the number of speakers that you have. No matter how many speake rs you use, a passive subwoofer is recommended for a really powerful and solid bass.
12 En Connected image with AV components • Before making any AV connections, read the manuals supplied with your AV components. • Don’t connect the power cord until you’ve completed and double-check ed all AV connections. • Push plugs in all the way to make good connect ions (loose connections can cause noise or malfunctions).

15 En With u (Remote Interactive), you can use the following special functions: ■ System On/Auto Power On When you start playback on a component connected via u , if the AV receiver is on Standby, it will automatically turn on and sele ct that component as the input source.
16 En This section explains how to connect the supplied indoor FM antenna and AM loop antenna. The AV receiver won’t pick up any radio signals without any antenna connected, so yo u must connect the antenna to use the tuner.

Presetting AM/F M Stations You can store a combination of up to 40 of your favorite AM/FM radio stations as presets.

27 En Advanced Op erations Advanced Setup Note • The on-screen setup me nus are displayed when: – There is no video input, or – The video input is 480p, 576p, 720 p, 1080i, or 1080p. The on-screen setup menus a ppear on the connected TV and provide a convenient way to change the AV receiver’s various settings.
28 En Explanator y Notes Menu HDMI In put If you connect a video component to an HDMI input, you must assign that input to an input selector. For example, if you connect your Blu-ray Disc/DVD player to HDMI IN 2 , you must assign “ HDMI2 ” to the “ BD/DVD ” input selector.
29 En Note •W h e n a n HDMI IN is assigned to an input selector in “HDMI Input” ( ➔ page 28 ), this input assignment is automatically set to the same HDMI IN . And in addition to the usual inputs (e.g., COAXIAL , etc.), you can also select HDMI inputs.
30 En Menu Sp Distance Here you can specify the distance from each speaker to the listening position so that the sound from each speaker arrives at the list ener’s ears as the sound designer intended.
31 En Menu Audio Adjust With the Audio Adjust functions and settings, you can adjust the sound and listening modes as you like. Multiplex/Mono Settings ■ Multiplex Input Ch (Mux) ` Main ` Sub ` Main/Sub This setting determ ines which channel of a stereo multiplex source is output.
32 En Menu Source Setup Audyssey ■ Dynamic EQ ` Off ` On : Audyssey Dynamic EQ ® becomes activ e. The Dynamic EQ indicator will light ( ➔ pa ge 8 ).
33 En Tip • To fully enjoy Audyssey Dynamic EQ ® and Audyssey Dynamic Volume ® , we recommend that you manually adjust the level of each speaker using “Level Cal (Level Calibration)” ( ➔ page 30 ).
34 En . Menu Hardware OSD ■ Volume OSD ` On ` Off You can select if you wish to display the volume level on- screen, when it is adjust ed. Remote Control ■ Remote ID ` 1 , 2 , or 3 When several Onkyo components are used in the same room, their remote ID codes may overlap.
35 En Note • When set to “ On ” and close the menu, the name of connected p -compatible components and “ RIHD On ” are displayed on the AV receiv er.
36 En You can change various audi o settings from the Home menu ( ➔ page 24 ). Note • These settings are disabled when: – a pair of headphones is connected , or –t h e “ Audio TV Out ” set.
37 En Note • The effect of the Lat e Night function depends on the material that you are playing and the in tention of the original sound designer, and with some material there will be little or no effect when you select the different options.
38 En Controlling Other Components iPod/iPhone Playback via Onkyo Dock UP-A1 Dock With the UP-A1 Dock, you can easily play the mu sic, photo, or movie stored on your Apple iPod/iPhone through the AV receiver and enjoy great sound. You can use the AV receiver’s remote controller to operate your iPod/iPhone.
39 En ■ Status Messages If either of the following me ssage is not displayed on the AV receiver’s display, check the connection to your iPod/iPhone. • P ORT Reading The AV receiver is checking the connection with the dock. • P ORT Not Support The AV receiver do not support the connected dock.

41 En Controlling Other Onkyo Components You can use the AV receiver’s remote controller to control your other Onkyo AV compon ents. This section explains how to enter the re mote control code (with the default underlined) for a com ponent that y ou want to control: DVD, CD, etc.
42 En You can reset a REMOTE MODE to its default remote control code. You can reset the remote contro ller to its default settings. By pressing REMOTE MODE that’s been programmed with the remote control c ode for your component, you can control Onkyo component as below.

48 En Connection Tips and Video Signal Path The AV receiver supports seve ral connection formats for compatibility with a wide range of AV equipment. The format you choose will depend on the formats supported by your com ponents. Use the followi ng sections as a guide.
49 En About HDMI Designed to meet the increased demand s of digital TV, HDMI (Hi gh Definition Multimedia Inte rface) is a new digital interface standard for connecting TVs, projectors, Blu-ray Disc/DVD player s, set-top boxes, and other video components.
50 En Using an RIHD-compatible TV, Player, or Recorder p , which stands for Remote Interactive over HDMI, is the name of the system control function found on Onkyo components. The AV receiver can be us ed with CEC (Consumer Elect ronics Control), which al lows system control over HDMI and is part of the HDMI standa rd.
