4 Precautions —Continued • Do not use this unit when there’ s the possibility of moisture condensatio n occurring. Doing so may damage your discs a nd certain parts inside this unit. If condensation does occur , unplug the power co rd and leav e the unit for two to three hours in the room temperature.

11 Disc Notes Precauti ons for Playback Compact discs (CDs) wi th the follo wing logo on the label surface ca n be used. Do not use discs designed for purposes other than audio, such as CD-R OMs for PC use. Abnormal noise could damage the speakers or amplif ier .
12 Disc Notes —Continued Handling Discs Hold discs by the edge, or by the center hole and edge. A void touching the playback surface (surface with nothing printed on it). Do not attach paper or stick e rs, or write on the playback or label surface of the disc.
13 Connecting Antennas This section explains ho w to connect the supplied FM antenna, AM loop antenna (C R-555), and D AB antenna (CR- 555D AB). The CD receiver wo n’t pick up any radio signals without an antenna connected , so you must connect the antenna to use the tuner .
14 Connecting Speaker s Connecting Y our Speaker s • Connect the right speaker to the CD receiv er’ s right (R) SPEAKERS terminals. C onnect th e left speaker to the left (L) SPEAKERS terminals. • Connect the positive (+) terminal on each speake r to the corresponding positi ve (+) terminal on the CD receiv er.
15 Connecting Other Components —Continued The following diagram sho ws how to connect an op tional Onkyo RI Dock (Remote Interacti ve Dock). What can you do with u ? • Connecting an Onkyo RI Dock to the CD receiver with an u cable allows you to control the RI Dock with the CD recei ver’ s remote controller .
16 Basic Operations T o turn on the CD recei ver, press the On/Standby [ 8 ] button on the remote controller . Press the On/Standby [ 8 ] b utton again to set the CD receiv er to St andby . Y ou can also use the [ 8 ON/ST ANDBY] button on the CD receiv er.
17 Basic Operations —Continued Y ou can adjust the brightness of the CD recei ver’ s display . T urn down the v olume, then connect your stereo headphones to the Phones minijack.
18 Pla ying CDs Selecting T racks T o retur n to the beginning of the track currently playing, press the Pr evious [ 7 ] b utton. Press the Pr evious [ 7 ] b utton repeat edly to select earlier tracks. • While playback is stopped, pressing the Previous [ 7 ] b utton will select the pre vious track.
19 Playing CDs —Contin ued Selecting Fi les in All Folder Mode This mode can only be used while playback is stopped. Tip: • Y ou can also use the Stop [ 2 ] b utton (press and hold) and [MENU/ENTER] jog dial on the CD receiver. Note: • The behavior of Stop [ 2 ] on the CD receiver can be set from “STOP KEY” (see page 21).
20 Playing CDs —Contin ued W ith memory playback, you can create a playlist of up to 25 tracks. This mode can only be used while playback is stopped. Selecting Other T racks During Memory Playbac k T o select other playlist tr acks during memory playback, use the remote controller ’ s Previous and Ne xt [ 7 ]/[ 6 ] buttons.
21 Playing CDs —Contin ued W ith the MP3/WMA preferences, you can change the way MP3/WMA file infor mation is displayed and the way MP3/WMA CDs are played. This mode can only be used while playback is stopped. Tip: • T o cancel the procedure at any point, press the [MENU] button.

23 Using USB interface The CD receiver can play back MP3 and WMA files that hav e been stored on USB flash driv es and MP3 players. Supported A udio File Formats For USB flash dri ve playback , the CD recei ver supports the follo wing music file fo rmats.
24 Using USB interface —Continued Note: • Do not connect the CD rece iv er’ s USB port to a USB port on your computer . Music on your computer cannot be played through the CD recei ver in this w a y . • Operation with all USB flash dri ves including the ability to po wer them is not guaranteed.
25 Listening to the Radio T uning into weak ster eo FM stations If the signal from a stereo FM stat ion is weak, it may be impossible to get good reception.
26 Listening to the Radio —Continued Tip : • Y ou can also use the [MENU/ENTER] jog dial on the CD recei ver. W ith the Preset Write function, you can manually preset indi vidual AM and FM radio stations. You can store a combination of up to 40 of your favorite AM/FM radio stations as presets.
27 Listening to the Radio —Continued W ith the Preset Copy function, you can organize your presets in the order you want. When you copy a preset, its name is also copied. Tip: • If you fa vorite station is stored in preset #5 and you want to make it preset #1, copy preset #5 to preset #1.

31 T r oubleshooting If you ha ve an y trouble using the CD receiv er, look for a solution in this section. Can’t turn on the CD r eceiver. • Make sure that the po wer cord is properly plugged into the wa ll outlet (see page 15). • Unplug the power cord from the w a ll outlet, wait 5 seconds or more, then plug it in again.
32 T roubleshooting —Continued Playbac k jumps. • The CD receiver is being subjec ted to vibration or the disc is scratched or dirt y (see page 11). Can’t add tr acks to the play list for memory playbac k. • Make sure there’ s a disc in the CD receiv er.
33 T roubl eshooting —Continued Can’t access the music files on a USB flash drive. • Make sure that the USB indicator light is on. If the light is not on, make sure that it is connected correctly and that the USB flash driv e is one that is supported (see page 23).
