- 27 - Basic T aking pictures using the automa tic function (Intelligent Auto Mode) Recording M ode: The camera will set the m ost appropriate settings to match the subject and the recording conditions so we recommend this m ode for beginners or those who want to leave the s ettings to the camera and take pictures easily .
- 28 - Basic When the camera identifies the optimum s cene, the icon of the scene concerned is displayed in blue for 2 se conds, after which its colour c hanges to the usual red. Y ou can take pictures with greater freedom by changing various set tings in the [Rec] menu.

- 39 - Basic Deleting Pictures Once deleted, pictu res cannot be recovered. • Pictures on t he built-in memory or the card that are be ing played back will be dele ted. • Pictures th at are not in th e DCF standar d or thos e that are protec ted cannot be deleted.

- 62 - Recording Record pictures that look like dioramas (Miniature Effect Mode) Recording M ode: This gives an ef fect whereby the periphery of th e image is defocused, making the subject look as if it is a miniature model. Motion pictures can also be recorded with diorama ef fects that appear to be played back in f ast forward.
- 63 - Recording T aking pictures that match the sc ene being recorded (Scene Mode) Recording M ode: When you se lect a Scene Mod e to match t he subject and recording situation, the camera sets the optimal exposure and hue to obtain the desired picture.
- 64 - Recording When taking pictures of people outdoors during the daytime, this mode allows you to improve the appearance and make their skin tones look healthier . ∫ T echnique for Portrait Mode T o mak e this mode more ef fective: 1 Rotate the zoom lever as far as possible to T ele.

- 68 - Recording Setting for when you want to t ake pictures of sports scenes or other fast-moving events. Note • Shutter spee d may slow down for up to 1 second. • This mode is suit able for t aking pictu res of subject s at dist ances of 5 m (16 feet) or more.
- 69 - Recording This takes pictures of a baby with a healthy complexion. When you use t he flash, the l ight from it is weaker than usual. It is possible to set di fferent birthdays and names for [Baby1] and [Baby2].
- 70 - Recording Select this when you want to take pictures of a pet such as a dog or a cat. Y ou can set your pet’s birthday and name. For information about [Age] or [Name], refer to [ Baby1]/[Baby 2] on P69 . Select this when you want to t ake pictures of a sunset view .

- 72 - Recording Using the [Rec] Menu For det ail s on [R ec] menu setting s, refer to P41 . Applicable mode s: Set the number of pixels. The hi gher the numbers of pixels, the finer the detail of the pictures will appear even when they are print ed onto large sheets.
- 73 - Recording Applicable mode s: This allows the Sensitivity to light (ISO sensitiv ity) to be set. Setting to a higher figure enables pictures to be taken even in dark places wi thout the re sulting pictures coming out dark.
- 74 - Recording Applicable mode s: In sunlight, under incandescent light s or in othe r such conditions where the colour of white takes on a reddish or bluish tinge, this item adjusts to the colour of white wh ich is closest to what is seen by the eye i n ac cordance with the light source.
- 75 - Recording ∫ Auto White Balance Depending on the conditions prevailing when pictures are taken, the pictures may take on a reddish or bluish tinge. Furthermor e, when a mult iple number of light so urces are being used or there is nothing with a colour close to white, Auto White Balance may not function pr operly .

- 87 - Playback/Editing Y ou can play back the pictures you have tak en in synchronisation with music, and you can do this in sequence while leaving a fixed interval bet ween each of the pictures.
